Opis:
Image processing and computer vision is an important and essential area in today’s scenario. Several problems can be solved through computer vision techniques. There are a large number of challenges and opportunities which require skills in the field of computer vision to address them. Computer vision applications cover each band of the electromagnetic spectrum and there are numerous applications in every band. This article is targeted to the research students, scholars and researchers who are interested to solve the problems in the field of image processing and computer vision. It addresses the opportunities and current trends of computer vision applications in all emerging domains. The research needs are identified through available literature survey and classified in the corresponding domains. The possible exemplary images are collected from the different repositories available for research and shown in this paper. The opportunities mentioned in this paper are explained through the images so that a naive researcher can understand it well before proceeding to solve the corresponding problems. The databases mentioned in this article could be useful for researchers who are interested in further solving the problem. The motivation of the article is to expose the current opportunities in the field of image processing and computer vision along with corresponding repositories. Interested researchers who are working in the field can choose a problem through this article and can get the experimental images through the cited references for working further.

This paper is devoted to the usage of image processing techniques in lab-on-a-chip devices for a cell detection and tracking. Advantages and disadvantages of image processing in data acquisition from lab-on-a-chip are described. A modified multiparametric object tracking method is presented. The method was tested on the lab-on-a-chip setup with living euglena and has shown plausible results for video with a low frame rate.

Opis:
The paper presents a computer vision technique developed for automated reading of analogue gauge meters. The system utilizes a mobile phone digital camera for image stream capturing and the Hough transform supplemented by multiply histogram analysis for locating a pointer position and parallax effect correction. The system is capable of working with minimal user supervision and its indicator position detection uncertainty is superior to that provided by a human eye. An attempt to use the algorithm implementation for semi-automatic calibration of an analogue voltmeter is also presented.

Opis:
The aim of this work is to present a new methodology for the automated analysis of the cross-sections of experimental chip shapes. It enables, based on image processing methods, the determination of average chip thicknesses, chip curling radii and for segmented chips the extraction of chip segmentation lengths, as well as minimum and maximum chip thicknesses. To automatically decide whether a chip at hand should be evaluated using the proposed methods for continuous or segmented chips, a convolutional neural network is proposed, which is trained using supervised learning with available images from embedded chip cross-sections. Data from manual measurements are used for comparison and validation purposes.

Opis:
Computer systems are being employed in specialized professions such as medical diagnosis to alleviate some of the costs and to improve dependability and scalability. This paper implements a computer aided breast cancer diagnosis system. It utilizes the publicly available mini MIAS mammography image dataset. Images are preprocessed to clean isolate breast tissue region. Extracted regions are used to adjust and verify a pretrained convolutional deep neural network, the GoogLeNet. The implemented model shows good performance results compared to other published works with accuracy of 86.6%, sensitivity of 75% and specificity of 88.9%.

Opis:
The idea of worm tracking refers to the path analysis of Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes and is an important tool in neurobiology which helps to describe their behavior. Knowledge about nematode behavior can be applied as a model to study the physiological addiction process or other nervous system processes in animals and humans. Tracking is performed by using a special manipulator positioning a microscope with a camera over a dish with an observed individual. In the paper, the accuracy of a nematode’s trajectory reconstruction is investigated. Special attention is paid to analyzing errors that occurred during the microscope displacements. Two sources of errors in the trajectory reconstruction are shown. One is due to the difficulty in accurately measuring the microscope shift, the other is due to a nematode displacement during the microscope movement. A new method that increases path reconstruction accuracy based only on the registered sequence of images is proposed. The method Simultaneously Localizes And Tracks (SLAT) the nematodes, and is robust to the positioning system displacement errors. The proposed method predicts the nematode position by using NonParametric Regression (NPR). In addition, two other methods of the SLAT problem are implemented to evaluate the NPR method. The first consists in ignoring the nematode displacement during microscope movement, and the second is based on a Kalman filter. The results suggest that the SLAT method based on nonparametric regression gives the most promising results and decreases the error of trajectory reconstruction by 25% compared with reconstruction based on data from the positioning system.
