The aim of this paper is to analyse the image of Yugoslavia in the collective memories of the post–Yugoslav societies. The author of this text, basing on an assumption that every society has a great number of collective memories, highlights the fact that among the Balkan nations one can find both supporters and opponents not only of the SFRY but also of the idea of the cooperation among the Southern Slavs. Both positive and negative opinions of Yugoslavia in the collective memories are based not on the sober assessment of the historical facts but on collective emotions and historical and political myths. The anti–Yugoslav discourse in primarily based on the national mythology. The discourse of the supporters of the Yugoslav tradition one the other hand, goes back in a large extend to the transnational myths. By discussing these two types of ideas about Yugoslavia, the author of this text tries to show their impact on the current political decisions.

Opis:
Processes of European identity formation are analysed here in terms of identity work and, specifically, relationship (interplay) between biographical and collective identity work. First sections of the text (1 and 2) are focussed on grounding the approach in a range of theoretical orientations (symbolic interactionism and culturalist perspectives), on outlining its methodological implications (the rationale for using the method of autobiographical narrative interviewing and various methods of text analysis), and, finally, on developing research questions and preliminary analytical dimensions of studying the collective identity work, especially in relation to European identity work, the latter being based on results of the author’s research on the minority nation society of Wales (e.g. collective identity constructions, and figurations, in terms of cultural periphery / centre, hybridity, and marginality). In the next step of analysis, these preliminary questions and dimensions are related to problems of European identity work in general. In the next section (3) overall heuristic strategies of the offered project are formulated: the attitude of refractive self-reflection, the dialogical principle of calibrating research interactants’ perspectives, a multi-layer approach to the interplay between individual experiences and a variety of collective meaning resources, the strategy of contrastive comparison of studied cases and, finally, the zooming procedure of focussing (coding) empirical materials. The last section of the text (4) relates to the objectives / expected products of the project concerning dimensions and integrated model of collective identity work in Europe, and their practical implications for a range of social / political activities in education, legislation, governance, as well as for NGOs, social arenas and social movements.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie idei i koncepcji leżących u podstaw socjologicznej analizy trzech pojęć, którymi są pamięć zbiorowa, tożsamość zbiorowa i rodzina. Uznaje się, że te trzy pojęcia są ściśle ze sobą powiązane i powinny być analizowane w odniesieniu do siebie nawzajem. Rodzina jest uważana za instytucję socjalizacji, a tym samym miejsce, gdzie nabywane są społeczne normy i wartości. Jest to także przestrzeń dla budowania i pielęgnowania zbiorowej pamięci i tożsamości. Problem tożsamości staje się szczególnie istotny, gdy omawia się bieżące zmiany zachodzące w społeczeństwach oraz kwestie globalizacji i uniformizacji. Prezentowany artykuł jest przede wszystkim rezultatem badań przeprowadzonych we wsi Rudzica na Śląsku Cieszyńskim w 2015 roku. Zawiera on uwagi z projektu badawczego koncentrującego się na problemach pamięci zbiorowej i tożsamości zbiorowej społeczności lokalnej. Autor opracowania przeprowadził częściowo ustrukturyzowane wywiady wśród członków Towarzystwa Miłośników Rudzicy, którego celem jest pielęgnowanie i promowanie lokalnej i regionalnej kultury oraz historii.

Artykuł ma charakter metodologiczny i skupia się na omówieniu zastosowania metody wywiadów fokusowych w badaniach nad pamięcią zbiorową. Na początku krótko przedstawione są założenia metodologiczne tego typu badań, a następnie omówione są podstawowe pojęcia teoretyczne dotyczące pamięci zbiorowej, które wskazują na celowość badań pamięci zbiorowej poprzez wywiady grupowe. Dalej podane są przykłady ich zastosowań na przykładzie literatury przedmiotu, a na końcu szczegółowo zaprezentowano metodologię dwóch niezależnych badań nad pamięcią zbiorową przeprowadzonych w Poznaniu. Artykuł kończy analiza SWOT zastosowania wywiadów fokusowych w badaniach nad pamięcią zbiorową.
The article is methodological in nature and analyses the use of focus interviews in collective memory research. First, the study design of typical focus interviews is presented and followed by a short review of basic concepts in memory studies indicating that memory is discursive in nature and should therefore be studied through focus group interviews. It is then illustrated with examples of application of the method in collective memory research. Methods employed in two studies are discussed in particular detail. These are two independently conducted projects investigating collective memory in Poznan. Finally, a SWOT analysis of the implementation of focus interview method in collective memory studies is conducted.

Le foot représente de nos jours un exemple type de plateforme par laquelle les dynamiques sociales des sociétés peuvent être observées. Les forums sont des lieux virtuels riches en expressions quotidiennes où les supporters de foot expriment leur « amour » ainsi que leur « dédain » vis-à-vis de l’autre. Nous effectuerons une analyse de contenu au cours de deux saisons de l’Olympique de Marseille et du Bayern de Munich ainsi que du Toulouse FC et de Hanovre 96. Cette analyse illustre que les expressions haineuses qui démarquent les groupes sont déterminantes pour la formation d’une identité collective. De plus, l’analyse confirme que la croyance collective correspond aux performances des équipes. Tandis que les top-clubs se définissent par leur performance sportive de manière positive, les clubs relégables se définissent plutôt de manière négative – ressentant une forme d’infériorité – afin de se démarquer, ceci tout en restant fidèles à leur propre club comme le démontre leur devise.
Football is an exemplary platform where the social dynamics within and between societies can be regularly observed. In addition, online message boards are a rich resource of everyday expressions where football fans express their ‘love’ of their clubs as well as their ‘disdain’ for others. We conducted a qualitative content analysis during two seasons of Olympique de Marseille and FC Bayern Munich as well as Toulouse FC and Hannover 96. Our analysis illustrates that hateful expressions that differentiate groups are much more prevalent and therefore more determinant in the formation of a collective identity. Furthermore, the analysis confirms that the self-conception corresponds to the performance of the teams. While fans of top clubs portray themselves in a positive way because of their team’s sporting performance, fans of teams who are battling against relegation define themselves more in a negative way – feeling a form of inferiority – in order to differentiate themselves whilst still remaining attached to their own club as the club motto implies.

The objective of the present study is to examine the role of St. John of Capistrano – a Franciscan preacher and missionary – in the process of forming the identity of the community of Czech Reformed Franciscans in the 17th century. The aforementioned figure was the actual initiator of the creation of Czech Observant province, which in the 17th century was transformed into a Reformed province. Based on the analysis of the description of history of the convent of St. Anthony in Wrocław, included in Chronica de origine (1678) by Father Bernard Sannig, and of the painting St. John of Capistrano from this convent, it becomes possible to present this saint as an important element of the identity, both on the provincial and local (the convent in Wrocław) level.

This article explores the methodological implications of investigating the collective identity of Fathers For Justice (FFJ). More specifically, a three-pronged approach of employing participant observation, interviews, and content analysis is assessed as the basis for understanding FFJ’s collective identity. This methodological approach reveals that meanings and practices related to post-separation and divorced fatherhood as well as the importance of children are a significant dimension of a FFJ collective identity. I conclude that an important part of the FFJ collective identity is not based on these activists perceiving themselves as self-serving (Fathers for Just Us), but as those seeking equality in terms of being recognized as continous parents after separation and divorce (Fathers are Us).

The article aims to trace the dynamics of contention in austerity-driven Slovenia, explain why it ended, through the processes of demobilization, despite the protest movement’s initial successes, and verify the explanatory power of Charles Tilly and Sidney Tarrow’s theoretical framework of demobilization. The analysis applies the method of source analysis, conceptual qualitative content analysis, and the conceptual framework of contentious politics. In doing so, it addresses the research problems of the dynamics of contention in Slovenia and why the contention resulted in demobilization. The article argues that after mass mobilization an upward scale shift appeared. The shift moved the contention beyond its local origins in Maribor, touched on the interests and values of new subjects, and involved a shift of venue to sites where the demands might have been met by state institutions. The dynamics of contention was a cycle of active and passive contentious episodes. The movement identity shift and successful recognition of its claims influenced the performances and episode sequence. The processes of demobilization started when people stopped attending protests, organizing particular performances, and implementing innovations to modular performances instead. Demobilization occurred when most of the protesters became discouraged from protest through boredom and a desire to return to everyday routines.

This article presents an approach to analysing collective identity in discourse that distinguishes the linguistic and semiotic description of textual features from their socio-cognitive interpretation. Collective identities are theorised as conceptual structures comprising beliefs and knowledge, norms and values, attitudes and expectations as well as emotions, and as being reinforced and negotiated in discourse. A number of linguistic and semiotic features are suggested to ascertain what collective identities are constructed in texts and how. These include social actor representation, process types, evaluation, modality, metaphoric expressions and intertextuality. The findings from such an analysis are then linked to questions about genre and the participants and processes of discourse practice as well as to the social context and the ideologies by which it is dominated. The analytical procedure is exemplified with an excerpt from a retailer’s catalogue that is investigated for the discursive construction and socio-cognitive representation of gender and sexual identity.

Praca jest próbą opisania komunikacji wizualnej zastosowanej na stronach internetowych dostawców energii elektrycznej w Polsce w kategoriach świadomie i konsekwentnie budowanej w internecie ikonosfery: obrazów synergicznego współdziałania technologii, przyrody i człowieka dzięki wdrożeniu odnawialnych źródeł energii. Tak rozumiana zmiana orientacji: z odbiorcy użytkownika energii na jej współproducenta i współtwórcę prowadzi wprost do zmian tożsamościowych nabywców prądu. Ponieważ upowszechnienie korzystania ze źródeł odnawialnych jest jednym ze strategicznych założeń polityki energetycznej Polski, stworzenie jednolitej i spójnej ikonosfery (co akceleruje procesy rozumienia wzajemnych zależności i wzmacnia zapamiętywanie komunikowanych treści), poruszanie się w której w prosty i przejrzysty sposób umożliwia komiksowa struktura opowieści na analizowanych stronach i podstronach, zakładamy, iż powyższe jest świadomym i celowym zabiegiem zorientowanym na wzrost społecznej świadomości w zakresie wykorzystania energii odnawialnej na szerszą niż dotąd skalę.
The paper is made to describe the visual communication mechanisms used on the websites of electricity supplier companies in Poland in terms of the iconosphere consciously and consistently built on the Internet: images of the synergistic interaction of technology, nature and man thanks to the implementation of renewable energy sources. The change of orientation understood in this way: from the recipient of the energy user to its co-producer and co-creator leads directly to changes in the identity of electricity buyers. Since the popularization of the use of renewable sources is one of the strategic assumptions of Poland's energy policy, the creation of a uniform and coherent iconosphere (which accelerates the processes of understanding mutual dependencies and strengthens the memorization of the communicated content), moving around in which the comic book structure of the stories on the analyzed pages allows you to navigate in a simple and transparent way and subpages, we assume that the above is a conscious and intentional procedure aimed at increasing social awareness of the use of renewable energy on a wider scale than before.

Das ,Unheimlicheʻ rührt sowohl in Jarosław Marek Rymkiewiczʼ Umschlagplatz als auch in Igor Ostachowiczʼ Noc żywych Żydów [Nacht der lebenden Juden] weniger von einer romantischen Faszination am Gespenstischen als vielmehr von einem tiefsetzenden kollektiven Trauma her – ein Trauma, entspringend einem Schuldkomplex, der nur schwer objektivierbar ist. Dieses Trauma lässt das, was Améry als ,Heimat‘ und Flusser als ,Wohnen‘ bezeichnet, brüchig und fragwürdig werden. Allein die Auseinandersetzung mit dem diesem Trauma und diesem Schuldkomplex zugrundeliegenden Menschheitsverbrechen vermag einen Ausweg aus dieser Dynamik des ,Unheimlichen‘ zu bahnen.
W powieści Umschlagplatz JAROSŁAWA MARKA RYMKIEWICZA oraz w powieści Noc żywych Żydów IGORA OSTACHOWICZA ,niesamowitość’ jest wynikiem nie tyle romantycznej fascynacji upiorami, ile głębokiej traumy zbiorowej. Ta trauma jest spowodowana kompleksem winy, który wymyka się próbom zobiektywizowania. Owa trauma sprawia, że to, co Améry nazywa ,ojczyzną’, a Flusser ,mieszkaniem’, jawi się jako kruche i wątpliwe. Tylko konfrontacja z ludzką zbrodnią leżącą u podstaw tej traumy i poczucia winy może pomóc w znalezieniu wyjścia z dynamiki ,niesamowitości’.
In the novels Umschlagplatz by Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz and Noc żywych Żydów [The Night of Living Jews] by Igor Ostachowicz, the “uncanny” is less a result of a romantic fascination with ghosts than an emblem of deep collective trauma. This trauma arises from a guilt complex which is difficult to objectify. As a result of this trauma, the notion Améry calls “homeland” and Flusser defines as “a place to live”, appears fragile and questionable. Only dealing with the crimes underlying this trauma and guilt may pave the way out of the dynamic of the “uncanny”.

Procesy kształtowanie się europejskiej tożsamości są w tym tekście analizowane w kategoriach „pracy nad tożsamością”, w szczególności jako wzajemne oddziaływanie poziomu doświadczeń biograficznych i kolektywnych. Pierwsze części tekstu (1 i 2) są skupione na ugruntowaniu takiego podejścia w rozmaitych orientacjach teoretycznych (interakcjonizm symboliczny i perspektywy kulturalistyczne), zarysowaniu jego metodologicznych implikacji (uzasadnienie użycia metody autobiograficznego wywiadu narracyjnego i szeregu metod analizy tekstu) oraz na sformułowaniu problemów i wstępnych wymiarów analitycznych badania pracy nad tożsamością zbiorową, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do Europy. Te ostatnie są rezultatem badań autora nad zagadnieniami narodowymi społeczeństwa Walii (np. problem konstrukcji tożsamości zbiorowej oraz figuracji typu centrum / peryferie, hybrydowość oraz marginalność). Stanowią one punkt wyjścia do analizy zagadnienia „pracy nad tożsamością europejską” w perspektywie ogólnej. W części następnej (3) nakreślone są heurystyczne strategie badania, obejmujące postawę refrakcyjnej autorefleksji (spojrzenie na siebie z punktu widzenia ‘kulturowego innego’), zasadę dialogowego ustalania perspektyw przyjmowanych przez badaczy, podejście do relacji między doświadczeniem biograficznym i odmianami kolektywnych zasobów znaczeniowych z punktu widzenia wielowarstwowego charakteru powiązań między nimi, strategię wyboru zasad kontrastywnej analizy badanych przypadków, wreszcie procedurę „zmiennej ogniskowej” w kodowaniu materiału empirycznego. Tematem ostatniej części (4) są cele i spodziewane rezultaty badania: określenie wymiarów i całościowego modelu „pracy nad tożsamością europejską”, a także ich implikacji dla rozmaitych dziedzin społecznej i politycznej praktyki – edukacji, legislacji, praktyki rządzenia / zarządzania, jak również działalności organizacji pozarządowych, aren i ruchów społecznych.
Processes of European identity formation are analysed here in terms of identity work and, specifically, relationship (interplay) between biographical and collective identity work. First sections of the text (1 and 2) are focussed on grounding the approach in a range of theoretical orientations (symbolic interactionism and culturalist perspectives), on outlining its methodological implications (the rationale for using the method of autobiographical narrative interviewing and various methods of text analysis), and, finally, on developing research questions and preliminary analytical dimensions of studying the collective identity work, especially in relation to European identity work, the latter being based on results of the author’s research on the minority nation society of Wales (e.g. collective identity constructions, and figurations, in terms of cultural periphery / centre, hybridity, and marginality). In the next step of analysis, these preliminary questions and dimensions are related to problems of European identity work in general. In the next section (3) overall heuristic strategies of the offered project are formulated: the attitude of refractive self-reflection, the dialogical principle of calibrating research interactants’ perspectives, a multi-layer approach to the interplay between individual experiences and a variety of collective meaning resources, the strategy of contrastive comparison of studied cases and, finally, the zooming procedure of focussing (coding) empirical materials. The last section of the text (4) relates to the objectives / expected products of the project concerning dimensions and integrated model of collective identity work in Europe, and their practical implications for a range of social / political activities in education, legislation, governance, as well as for NGOs, social arenas and social movements.

Artykuł zadaje pytania o niezwykłą popularność Stanisława Staszica (1755–1826), której kulminacją był jego pogrzeb - spontaniczna manifestacja uczuć patriotycznych tysięcy mieszkańców Warszawy. Autor twierdzi, że postać Staszica była postrzegana przez pryzmat działalności filantropijnej, opisuje ewolucję jego wizerunku jako filantropa oraz prezentuje pogłębioną kontekstualizację źródeł tej popularności. The article asks questions about the unusual popularity of Stanisław Staszic (1755–1826), that culminated during his funeral - a spontaneous manifestation of patriotic feelings of thousands Varsovians. The author maintains that the figure of Staszic was perceived by a prism of his philanthropic activity and describes the evolution of his image as philanthropist, offering at the same time a broadened contextualization of the reasons for such popularity.
