    In the modern epoch there were many investigations of human spirit for discovering what is certain and permanent. All that started with the new philosophy of Descartes. His thought may be helpful in searching for truth as a nutrition for developing Christian life. The article undertakes the attempt to insight into human self. The considerations start with love, because it seems to be what should drive human spiritual life and lead man to his heart. The second part of the article contains what can be achieved by applying Descartes’ thought for searching for what is true and permanent. The third (the last) part of the paper is dedicated to God and His contribution to human love and cognition, and its consequences.

    The main aim of our investigation is a cognitive interdependence to metacognitive self. Metacognitive self construct as a new one is considered. Three studies are presented: first two as evidence for monitoring effect of metacognitive self, and the last one – as cross-cultural study. The latter is devoted to the role of metacognitive self in affect regulation. Studies showed that metacognitive self may be responsible for persistence in cognitive load conditions, and metacognitive self may serve as a protector against certain symptoms of depression.

    This paper aims at elaborating the concept of linguistic self with regard to its twofold existence modes, namely as a physical person and as a mental subject, being shaped by external and internal dialogs in interpersonal and intersubjective communication. These dialogical encounters, constantly changing the reality of everyday life, are based, on the one hand, on the observable multitextuality of narratives, and on the other, on the multi-voicedness of opinions. As such, it lays emphasis on the need for a holistic approach to human beings as a psychosomatic unity, taking part in cognition with their minds and bodies, and developing itself both in-and-with the physical and logical domains of their surrounding ecosystems. In view of the private and public character of the self, the author postulates to consider in future studies the achievements of personal and social constructivism.

    The contact patterns of bevel gear sets are an important indicator for the acoustic quality of rear axle drives. The contact patterns are the result of complex interactions in the production process. This is due to many process steps, numerous influencing factors and interdependencies. In general, their effect on product variations is not fully comprehended. This impedes the design and control of the production process based on a holistic analytical model for new variants fulfilling the acoustic requirements. The approach with self-optimization is possible but can take a long time for the training of the artificial neural networks and the necessary iterations until a satisfying precision for the predicted process parameters is achieved. Also it can occur that the algorithm is not converging and therefore no satisfactory result is turned out at all. In this paper an approach is presented combining the flexibility of self-optimizing systems with the higher precision of delimited solution finders called the Cognitive Failure Cluster (CFC). The improvements provided by the clustering of the optimization program are evaluated regarding the training time and the precision of the result for a production lot of bevel gear sets.

    Opis:
    Today, value chains are considered fractionally and on the basis of simplified model assumptions. Interactions between processes, materials, means of production and individuals acting in this environment as well as the effect of changes on the product usually are not known exhaustively. In order to take corrective actions towards these deficits, self-optimizing production system technologies can be used. They provide systems that emulate the "human" ability of reaching a decision with technical architectures. The goal of these approaches is to steadily analyze and evaluate the actual status in technological as well as in organisational areas and conduct a system adaptation to alternating objectives. Central questioning in this field of research is how to survey production data in order to detect correlations of production parameters and their influence on product parameters, how to derive decisions from this knowledge and how to learn from the consequences. Application technologies capable of taking on these tasks of self-optimization to emulate intelligent behaviour are analysed. The aim is to identify the competencies of these technologies, in order to build a cognitive system architecture based on applications especially suited for each task that has to be fulfilled to emulate cognitive human decision making processes.

    The article focuses on the issue of spiritual development from the perspective of consciousness. The question of spiritual development exists in close connection with the concept of spirituality. The issue of consciousness can be reduced to three elements that make up a single act of consciousness: an empirical subject, complementing the object, and a non-act self-awareness, i.e. a non-empirical or proper subject. Self-awareness plays a key role in spiritual development in the fi eld of consciousness. The development of self-awareness should strive to reveal non-act self-awareness, but it has a similar structure and is experienced like any other acts of awareness. Spiritual development is the process of the of self-awareness growth and the constitution of the “Self” as an empirical subject that separates itself from a specifi c class of objects that are a component of the fi eld of possible experience for a person. The eff ects of spiritual development can also be described as self-knowledge, which can be a conceptual explanation of either actual experiences or a more stable state of the human subject.

    Dwie współczesne powieści brytyjskie: Nie opuszczaj mnie (Never Let Me Go) i Sobota (Saturday) wydają się pokazywać, że sztuka (zdolność tworzenia i zdolność głębokiego przeżycia dzieła sztuki) jest tym, co wyróżnia człowieka, czy wręcz tym, co stanowi o jego człowieczeństwie. W eseju rozważam niektóre implikacje tej tezy dla rozumienia istoty sztuki i możliwości pełnienia przez nią terapeutycznej roli. W szczególności wydaje się, że można wyjaśnić szczególne miejsce sztuki w świecie człowieka, jeśli sztukę potraktować przede wszystkim jako aktywność poznawczą, w której przedmiotem poznania jest jaźń, oraz jeśli przyjąć, że samoświadomość (zainteresowanie własnym wewnętrznym światem) jest podstawową cechą człowieka. Jednocześnie rozważana hipoteza zdaje się podważać przekonanie, że sztuka może pełnić funkcję terapeutyczną, bo jeśli sztuka czyni nas ludźmi, trudno oczekiwać by mogła jednocześnie przynieść ulgę w cierpieniu, które jest związane z byciem człowiekiem, zwłaszcza jeśli, jak argumentuje Dennett, świadomość i samoświadomość odgrywają fundamentalną rolę w doświadczeniu cierpienia. Terapeutycznej funkcji sztuki można jednak bronić, jeśli terapię zdefiniować jako działania wspierające człowieka w jego wysiłku, by pogodzić się z obecnością cierpienia.
    Two contemporary British novels, Never Let Me Go and Saturday, suggest that art (the ability to respond to art with deep affection and the ability to be creative) is indicative or even constitutive of humanity. The essay considers in detail some implications of this hypothesis with reference to the concepts of art and art therapy. In particular, it seems that the significance of art for humanity might be explained if art is interpreted as primarily a cognitive activity (whose main object is the self) and if self-awareness (interest in one’s inner world) is perceived as essential for humanity. At the same time the hypothesis in question seems to undermine the idea of art therapy, since if art makes us human, it can hardly relieve the pain of being human, especially if, as argued by Dennett, awareness and self-awareness play the fundamental role in the experience of suffering. Art’s therapeutic function may, however, be defended if therapy is defined as assistance in man’s effort to accept suffering as inevitable part of human life.
