    This article regards Norwid’s Tajemnica Lorda Singelworth in the context of his anthropology as well as historical and cultural background. The author’s notion of “cleanliness,” inspired in some measure by the Gospels, is connected to the circumstances of both Norwid himself and the main character of his puzzling novella. This reading revolves around the image of a balloon flight during which the Lord – as it is argued, following hints already present in studies of Norwid – discards a piece of paper with “physiological content.” This scene is placed in the context of other literary balloon flights and the eccentricity of Baudelaire’s friend Philoxène Boyer. Finally, the article discusses Norwid’s law of inversion, which can be applied in the case of Singelworth.

    Przedstawiono wyniki badań nad możliwością odzyskiwania nasion sałaty głowiastej wydzielanych do odpadu podczas czyszczenia. Stwierdzono, że wydzielenie nasion sałaty głowiastej z odpadu przy stosowaniu tylko kanału aspiracyjnego lub sit jest mało skuteczne. Natomiast stosując czyszczenie w kanale aspiracyjnym, przy prędkości powietrza 2,5 m/s, a następnie na sicie o szerokości otworów prostokątnych 1,1 mm, można odzyskać ponad 70% nasion sałaty głowiastej wydzielonej do odpadu, przy czystości produktu wymaganej dla materiału siewnego przez Polską Normę. Podano również formuły matematyczne opisujące przebieg procesu rozdzielania.
    Presentation of the results of a research on the possibility to recover seeds of lettuce from waste after cleaning. It was found that separation of lettuce seeds with application of only an aspiration canal or sieves is not much effective. On the other hand, during cleaning in the aspiration canal with air speed 2.5 m/s and then on a sieve with the width of rectangular holes 1.1 mm one may recover over 70% of seeds of lettuce separated from waste with product cleanliness required for sewing material by the Polish standard. Mathematical formulas which describe the separation process were also given.

    Artykuł stanowi przede wszystkim propozycję nowego odczytania Tajemnicy lorda Singelworth w kontekście Norwidowskiej antropologii z jednej, a tła historyczno-kulturowego z drugiej strony. Rozumienie „czystości” przez Norwida, niewolne od inspiracji ewangelicznych, wchodzi w ciekawe zależności z realiami, w których przyszło funkcjonować nie tylko samemu poecie, ale też bohaterowi jego zagadkowej noweli. Odczytanie Tajemnicy lorda Singelworth skupia się wokół obrazu lotu balonem, z którego lord – wedle tej interpretacji, nieodosobnionej zresztą w norwidologii – zrzuca papier zawierający treść natury fizjologicznej. Scena ta umieszczona zostaje w kontekście innych literackich lotów balonem, a także – w związku z ekscentrycznym zachowaniem lorda – skonfrontowana z manifestacjami dziwności, jakie w Paryżu XIX wieku urządzał przyjaciel Baudelaire’a, Philoxène Boyer. Singelworth wypada zatem na jednego z ciekawych dziwaków literatury dziewiętnastowiecznej. Jednocześnie pozostaje jedną z figur, w związku z którymi przywołać można – wyprowadzone w artykule – norwidowskie prawo inwersji.
    First of all, the presented article offers a novel interpretation of Lord Singleworth’s Secret in the context of Norwid’s anthropology on the one hand, and a historical and cultural background on the other. Norwid’s understanding of “cleanliness,” which was inspired in some measure by the Gospels, had interesting connections with the life circumstances of Norwid himself and the main character of his puzzling short story. The reading of Lord Singleworth’s Secret revolves around the image of a balloon flight during which the lord—according to this interpretation, not alien in Norwidology—throws a paper with “physiological content.” This scene is put in the context of other literary balloon flights, and also, due to Lord Singleworth’s eccentric behaviour, confronted with the manifestations of bizareness organized by Baudelaire’s friend Philoxène Boyer in the 19th century. So it seems that Singleworth is one ofthe most interesting weirdos of the 19th-century literature. Nonetheless, he remains one of the characters for whom we may invoke Norwid’s law of inversion—inferred in the article.

    A new act on maintaining the cleanliness and order in communes of 1 July, 2011, will become effective in Poland on 1 January, 2012. The act will come fully into force on 1 July, 2013. According to this act regulations, commune self-governments take over the obligations of the property owners concerning waste management, moreover, they become responsible for construction and maintenance of the infrastructure supporting recycling and waste disposal processes. The self-governments were granted a 1.5 year transition period to implement the act regulations.The introduced changes are an adjustment of Polish regulation to the European law. Only in Poland and Hungary local self-governments have not yet been responsible for management of waste generated in their areas.The article presents an analysis of the basic changes introduced by the act to the Polish system of municipal waste management. Presented are also the estimates of the mass of wastes collected on the territory of Poland with particular regard to the Małopolskie voivodeship. Calculations and forecasts were made on the basis of information collected by the Main Statistical Office (GUS) and commune offices, where systems similar to the one introduced by the act have been operating for several years. The act assumes that all citizens of Poland will be covered by a system of waste collection, but will also have to pay so called "garbage tax", which should translate into increased amount of collected wastes, especially in these communes where wastes collection system was faulty. In Małopolskie only in 30 communes the 100% of inhabitants have signed contracts for garbage disposal. In the communes where the modern municipal waste management system has been operating, the increase in the mass of collected wastes (for the first three years of system operation) ranged between 31% and 94% in relation to the mass collected in the year preceding the introduction of the new system, although over 90% of local inhabitants were covered by the previous system. As results from the analyses, after introducing the new act the amount of wastes collected in the Małopolskie voivodeship may increase from the level of 765,000 Mg (2010) to over 1.1 M Mg (1.4 M Mg according to less optimistic forecasts), assuming that all generated wastes will be collected (the same amount as in 2010). In some of the Małopolskie communes the estimated increase in collected municipal wastes may reach over 500%.

    This paper presents a study on the effect of cleaning factors on the energy consumption of the cleaning process in a CIP system, and the correlation between single components of electricity necessary to perform this process and the cleanliness degree obtained. Studies were carried out in a laboratory cleaning station, wherein a plate heat exchanger contaminated with hot milk was included. The research program was developed according to a 5-level statistical plan. Based on the results, obtained with Experiment Planner 1.0, a regression function of energy requirement considering variables such as: cleaning time, temperature and flow rate of the cleaning liquid via the cleaned exchanger has been developed. Describing this relationship, linear and quadratic functions with double interactions were used. Significance level for the analysis was established at α = 0.05. Correlation analysis between components of the electricity necessary to perform the cleaning process (pump drive and heating of the cleaning agent) and the resulting degree of cleaning of heat exchanger plates was performed.

    Opis:
    The study describes anthropological and philosophical aspects of dirt as a metaphor. The author interprets the motif in the context of hygiene rhetoric (crystal palace, cleansing the society of unnecessary elements, dirt as a form of revolt, dirt as stigma etc.). Based on the example of Dwugłos o Schulzu by Kazimierz Wyka and Stefan Napierski she analyzes the meaning of metaphors and axiologically characterized pictures, favouring the analogy: if it is dirty, it is immoral. The author is interested in the idea of cleanliness and dirt as understood and pictured by the authors of the interwar period. It is these notions that literary critics of the named period refer to while formulating allegations towards Schulz’s works. The author presents dirt as a historically and culturally variable category, which was influenced by the development of medicine, cosmetic industry and advertising. She confronts Schulz’s modern guardian of order — Adela, with Jacob, an eccentric who introduces chaos and impropriety. The author is trying to grasp these metaphors and pictures due to which dirt in Schulz’s world stands for a creative potential.
