    W artykule krótko ukazana jest bogata historia symboliki koła w kulturze. Przedstawiono definicję mandali w perspektywie koncepcji C. G. Junga. Zaprezentowano także wybrane dzieła kilku współczesnych artystów związanych z filmem oraz sztukami wizualnymi, którzy wykorzystywali motyw koła w swojej twórczości. Na zakończenie opisane zostały mandale wykonane przez pacjentkę w procesie terapii oraz mandala stworzona przez uczestniczkę warsztatów pokonferencyjnych
    This paper presents briefly the history of the symbolism of the Circle in culture. The concept of „mandala” has been described from the perspective of C. G. Jung philosophy. A selection of works by several contemporary artists associated with cinematography and the visual arts, who used this motif in their works, has also been discussed. The last part of this paper contains a description of the mandalas made by a patient during her treatment, as well as the mandalas designed by a participant of post-conference workshops.

    The problem of covering the area by circles, mathematical model of the coating offers a new coverage criteria based on which analytically describes the range of permissible solutions of the problem. Based on the analysis of the properties of the model, it is shown that the solution of the problem can be reduced to the solution of problems of nonlinear programming sequence. At the moment, there are systems of video monitoring forest land. An important class of geometric design problems is problems of irregular covering the field by geometric objects, as well as regular. In the problems of covering it is set up a claim that all points of the field were covered by geometric objects, while the conditions of non-intersection of objects between themselves and their placement in the field may be violated. One problem with the design of terrestrial video monitoring systems is to optimize the placement of observation points. optimal placement of towers problem can be formulated as a coating task. An approach to the placement of towers terrestrial video monitoring of forest fires, the main stage of which is set forth search method local extremum in the problem coverage area circles of varying radius. There is build a mathematical model to optimize the placement of variable radius circle and on its basis – the development of methods of solution and proposed an approach to obtaining a local extremum of covering problem.

    This paper is devoted to the discussion of the exponential stability of a networked hyperbolic system with a circle. Our analysis extends an example by Bastin and Coron about the limits of boundary stabilizability of hyperbolic systems to the case of a networked system that is defined on a graph which contains a cycle. By spectral analysis, we prove that the system is stabilizable while the length of the arcs is sufficiently small. However, if the length of the arcs is too large, the system is not stabilizable. Our results are robust with respect to small perturbations of the arc lengths. Complementing our analysis, we provide numerical simulations that illustrate our findings.

    The author of this article analyses the way in which dance and the dancer function within the prose works of Milan Kundera. Preceded by an introduction which analyses the figure of homo saltans from a cultural perspective, this review of the topic of dance (understood phenomenologically) presents four literary aspects in which it reveals itself. These perspectives are not conflicting, but neither are they complementary. The first relates to ritual rites of dancing in a circle, and their (crooked) reflection can be seen in the socio-political experience of the 20th century. The second presents dance as a narrative element, which asks questions about its own nature, and therefore has an autotelic and universalising character. The third aspect presents a metaphorical understanding of dance movement, while the fourth relates to philosophies of the dance and the dancer, as proposed by one of the protagonists in Slowness, leading this persona away from aesthetics towards the experience of public life. According to the author of this article, dance is used by Kundera to discover more interesting layers of the human condition, but much here depends on the reader.

    The Cauchy problems for time-fractional diffusion equation with delta pulse initial value of a sought-for function is studied in a circle domain in the axisymmetric case under zero Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions, respectively. The Caputo fractional derivative is used. The Laplace and finite Hankel integral transforms are employed. The results are illustrated graphically.

    The present article considers the symbolical values of the circle in the novel Cartea șoaptelor (The Book of Whispers) by Varujan Vosganian from a hermeneutical point of view (Gilbert Durand, Jean Chevalier and Alain Gheerbrant). Moreover, from a spatial perspective, the circles of death are regarded as a double spiral, negative and positive, and the passage of characters such as Yusuf through this double spiral is the equivalent of a symbolical death and a resurrection in a new form. Moreover, taking over Paul Ricoeur’s idea (Memory, History, Forgetting) of a text being considered a sepulchre for the absents of history (Michel de Certeau), the text of The Book of Whispers is regarded and analysed as a text of the voice of those who have disappeared and died without their story being known. The roundness of character and ultimately that of transcending sufferance that the novel incorporates is rendered exactly by these circle-stories and by their polyphony.

    Opis:
    The architecture in Ireland has been developed in various periods: from megalithic times, through antiquity, the Middle Ages, to modern times. Irish architecture has preserved elements of three significant cultures flourishing in Ireland which Seán Ó Duinn calls “three streams”: the megalithic, the Celtic and the Christian cultures. With the Celtic culture is connected the term “Celtic spirituality” which is expressed in: affirmation of life and creature, harmony of man with nature and cosmos, and above all in the divine presence in the world and in human life. The author of this article also indicates to its manifestation in Irish architecture. The author of the article characterises selected elements of Irish architecture, pointing to their meaning, like: circularity in general, circle (as a solar symbol), stone, corbel technique, round tower, Celtic cross, human head, sheela-na-gig. The author based her study on historical, archaeological and literary sources, supplemented with her own field works conducted in Ireland in 1995–2016.

    Artykuł zawiera wyniki badań korugacji koła pojazdów szynowych. Praca dotyczy problemu zjawisk kontaktowych wywołanych tarciem zwrotnym. W praktyce ten rodzaj zużycia występuje na powierzchni ciernej kół zestawów kołowych pojazdów szynowych jako równomiernie rozłożone wzniesienia i wgłębienia – określane jako zużycie krrugacyjne. Autor w swoich badaniach, dotyczących rozwiązania tego złożonego problemu, przeprowadził badania statystyczne, numeryczną symulację komputerową, badania stanowiskowe oraz badania eksploatacyjne na obiekcie rzeczywistym. W badaniach uwzględniono wpływ charakterystyk współczynnika tarcia na powstawanie zużycia korrugacyjnego. Zużyciu korrugacyjnemu towarzyszy zjawisko wywołane tarciem zwrotnym typu przyleganie – poślizg. W literaturze spotyka się nazwy tego zużycia określane jako zjawiska kontaktowe typu stick-slip.
    The paper presents the results of tests of rail vehicles wheelsets corrugation. In the paper the contact phenomena caused by reverse friction are discussed. In practice, this type of wear is found on the frictional surface of rail vehicle wheelsets in the form of bumps and hollows evenly distributed, called the corrugations wear. To solve this complex problem, the author has done the statistics tests, numerical computer simulation, bench tests as well as in-service tests on a real object. The effect of friction coefficient characteristics on occurring the corrugation is taken into consideration in the tests. This wear is followed by phenomenon caused by the reverse friction of type stickslip. In literature this wear is often referred as a contact phenomenon of stick-slip type.

    W rzeczywistych warunkach pracy zestawu koło–szyna w miejscu kontaktu występują naprężenia oraz poślizgi wpływające na procesy zachodzące w tym ważnym miejscu. Powierzchnia kontaktu ulega ciągłej zmianie w zależności od wielu czynników zarówno konstrukcyjnych, jak i eksploatacyjnych. W wyniku nakładania się tych czynników problem trwałości warstwy wierzchniej, szczególnie powierzchni tocznej szyn kolejowych, pozostaje nadal nierozwiązany [1, 2].

    In the present article, the author gives an interesting and relatively simple construction of parabola determined by a vertex, an axis and its random point. The construction of next points of parabola was deduced from the properties of circle transformation by the pencil of concentric circles.
    W artykule podano interesującą i stosunkowo prostą konstrukcję bieżących punktów paraboli wykorzystując własności przekształcenia okręgu za pomocą pęku współśrodkowych okręgów. W pierwszej części pracy zdefiniowano przekształcenie oraz wykazano, że obrazem okręgu w tak określonym przekształceniu jest pęk parabol o wspólnym wierzchołku i osi. Ponadto stwierdzono iż w przypadku gdy środek koncentrycznych okręgów należy do przekształcanego okręgu to wierzchołek tych parabol jednoczy sięz nim. W drugiej części artykułu podano algorytm konstrukcji kolejnych punktów paraboli zadanej poprzez podanie wierzchołka, osi oraz jej dowolnego punktu.

    The article offers an analysis and interpretation of the poem Zaklęte miasto [Enchanted city] from the volume Ballady i pieśni [Ballads and songs] by the Young Poland poet Edward Leszczyński. The poem is first analysed based on the oneiric convention. For this purpose the author refers to the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer and explains the symbolism of the wheel, which indicates the sense of entrapment in the world, a situation with no way out. The dreaming-wandering from Leszczyński’s poem, the gaining and losing of faith, is then examined in the context of August Strindberg’s A Dream Play. The two works, ostensibly so different, address with a similar kind of poetic “dreaming.” In both cases, the life in question is inauthentic, asleep, affected by a curse, kept under a spell. The last stanza of the poem indicates the Dionysian tradition, and therefore makes it necessary to refer to the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and his idea of eternal return. The examination lead to the conclusion that Leszczyński’s work refers to the dual meaning of circularity, or rather two attitudes towards life. In the first case Schopenhauerian determinism is revealed, according to which life is a monotonous, enchaining, ominous dream. In the second case we are dealing with the worship life of Nietzschean provenance – one may, therefore, conclude that a curse can be a blessing and being asleep can be being awake, if we accept the eternal return.

    The article presents the issues related to the interaction of the wheel and rail in modern rail vehicles. This interdisciplinary issue is becoming more and more important due to the progression of loads resulting from the constantly increasing pressure of the wheelset on the track and the speed of the running vehicles. Besides the tendency to increase the capacity of the railway lines is also increasing, which is related to the optimization of the transport potential, and thus leads to more and more frequent loads, which causes a greater wear of the cooperating friction work in a further consequence.
    W artykule przedstawiono problematykę związaną z oddziaływaniem koła i szyny we współczesnych pojazdach szynowych. Zagadnienie to, o charakterze interdyscyplinarnym, nabiera coraz większego znaczenia ze względu na progresję obciążeń, wynikających ze stale powiększającego się nacisku zestawu kołowego na tor oraz prędkości kursujących pojazdów. Poza tym zwiększa się również tendencja do zwiększania przepustowości linii kolejowych, co jest związane z optymalizacją potencjału przewozowego, a tym samym prowadzi do coraz większych częstotliwości obciążeń, co powoduje w dalszej konsekwencji większe zużycie współpracującej pracy ciernej.

    Opis:
    In the contemporary postmodernist culture that more and more becomes the “culture of the picture”, the demand of visualization should also be addressed to theology that is inclined to use the traditional forms of verbal message. In the light of the principle of accommodation accepted by the Vaticanum II the imperative expressed there should be considered “urgent” for the present moment. Among the new propositions promoting graphical-pictorial approaches in theology a new method called chart-graphic or geometrical method worked out by Rev. Prof. Franciszek Drączkowski deserves a special attention. The starting point of the chart-graphic method is the figure of the circle in which an equilateral triangle has been inscribed that is a symbolic image of the triune God. The value of geometry in cognition and comprehension of truth was seen in the past by many outstanding scholars, who considered the use of geometry, logic and algebra to be necessary in the process of cognition of the universe (Descartes, Pascal, Clement of Alexandria). Geometry also for Rev. Drączkowski becomes something that is indeed necessary in the process of cognition of the eternal Truth and of transmitting this knowledge to others. He accepts the ancillary role of geometry, transferring it to the ground of theology.
