Opis:
The studies were carried out in two farms - ZZK Kołbacz and SK Bielin, on 60 calves, 30 animals in each farm. The calves ware divided for control and experimental groups - 15 animals per group. Baycox was administered two times in 7 days interval in a dosis of 20 mglkg of body weight. The weight gain and the course of coccidia infection in calves before and after traetment with Baycox ware examined. In control animals during the time of studies the coccidia infection was very hight. After administration of Baycox the intensity of coccidia infection was very low and oocysts were found in same animals, only. In SK Bielin before Baycox was used clinical coccidiosis and mortality of 6.9% calves was observed. After Baycox administration 1.9 % animals died, only. The results ware analyst statistically.

Opis:
The aim the studies was to establish the usefulness of Baycox for control of coccidiosis and ITS influence on production results (efficiency) in lambs. The studies were carried out on 200 lambs, naturally infected with coccidia, divided in 2 groups -control and experimental, 100 animals in each, after separation from ewes selected in respect of sex, type, date of birth and weight. Toltrazuiril (Baycox) was used the first time for control of sheep coccidiosis in Poland. Toltrazuril was applied individual, twice at 110 and 117 day of life in a doses of 20 mg/kg body weight. The extensity and intensity of coccidia infection was ascertained by the Willis-Schlaaf and McMaster methods. The weight gain of lambs was stated once a month on the basis of individual weight. It was established that toltrazuril show a high efficiency against the protozoa of the genus Eimeria and drug could be used for coccidia control in lambs. This preparation is very active against all intracellular stages - schisogony and gamogony and it could be used for treatment of clinical coccidiosis. It was established profitable influence on the weight gain of lambs.

Elaphostrongylus cervi
Opis:
Elaphostrongylus cervi is a parasite of the family Protostrongylidae, occurring in cervids in Eurasia. This nematode has hitherto been recorded in some woodland areas in Poland. The current distribution of E. cervi in Poland was studied in the frames of the presently reported thesis. The above-mentioned nematode was found in deer in eight additional voivodeships, and in all thirteen forest management units examined. The prevalence values ranged from 66.7% to 100%. The above facts justify the statement that that E. cervi is a common parasite species in Poland. The dynamics of the larval shedding (L I) by deer was monitored and it turned out that there were two peaks – the first in February and the second in December. The identity of the intermediate hosts – terrestrial snails – has been established, as well as the prevalence and the infection intensity of their natural infections. The intermediate hosts of E. cervi are Succinea putris, Bradybena fruticum, Perforatella bidens, and Zonitoides nitidus. It was determined that the prevalence of snails, S. putris, infected with E. cervi larvae maintained a constant level from June to August and it decreased in September and October. Snails, B. fruticum, showed the highest prevalence in July – and it decreased in subsequent months. In the case of P. bidens the prevalence of E. cervi infection was the lowest in August, and than it increased, to reach the highest value in October. The prevalence of spontaneous infections of different snail species ranged from 7.6% to 20.6%. For the first time the highest prevalence of spontaneous infection was found in P. bidens. Till now the most infected species of snail has always been S. putris. The highest intensity of infection – 242 larvae – was found in B. fruticum, and little lower – 202 in S. putris. In two other species the intensity ranged from 1 to 23 larvae. The most significant role in spreading of E. cervi in the Białowieża Forest is performed by S. putris and B. fruticum, because of their high abundance and P. bidens, because of their highest infection intensity. Also the penetration of the first stage larvae of E. cervi into the intermediate host and their development there throughout the third infective stage were studied. The first stage larvae of E. cervi enter the body of snail through the muscle of foot. The period of their development to the second stage is 7 to 9 days, and to the third stage is 21 to 28 days. E. cervi is a parasite that under intensive infections is very dangerous for domestic ruminants in which in evokes neurological symptoms or even death. Because huge numbers of E. cervi larvae are shed by dear into the environment, homeothermic vertebrates, birds and wild boars can accidentally infect themselves with infective larvae of this parasite. To explain the course of such infections, fish, chickens, and Vietnamese pigs were experimentally infected. In fish and chickens the infective larvae of E. cervi were not able to cross the intestinal barrier, arrested their development, and were digested. Infected pigs produced no clinical symptoms of the infection. In those animals larvae were retained in mesenteric lymphatic nodes and were not able to cross the mesenteric barrier. None of the experimentally infected animals became paratenic hosts and their meat poses no threat to human health.

The aim of the study was to determine a reason for failing health condition and deaths amang the ostriches in the newly-established breeding farm situated within the boundaries of Toruń Voivodship. Both initial observations and examinations of three alive and two dead birds presupposed an appearance of ectoparasitical disease. The autopsies were performed and the specimens for bacteriological and perasitological studies were subsequently obtained. The ectoparasitically-directed studies were the only positive result; the individuals of Cnemidocoptes mutans and unrecognised Acarina species were found. Although the overall treatment (Ivomec) and breeding-rooms extennination of vermin (Neguvon 2%) were held, health conditions of the ostriches failed to improve and, as a result, all the birds died. The breeding farm was closed down wich the owner having suffered financially. The study allowed to draw conclusions concerning reasons for Acarina invasion and subsequent deaths among the birds.

Opis:
As the anisakiasis is considered a food-borne disease, the necessity of a proper diagnosis of human anisakiasis is accompanied by the proper diagnosis of fish anisakiasis, because the invaded fish meat may represent a potential source of Anisakis invasion for human. The authoress presents some problems of the diagnosis of human anisakiasis and the attempts of the development of efficient diagnostic methods for detecting fish anisakiasis. In view of the difficulties in parasitological diagnosis of human anisakiasis and the diagnosis based on the clinical findings, serodiagnosis would be potentially of a great value. From the available literature it appears, however that serological tests have not yielded a practical and totally reliable method for routine application. Just recently Desowitz et al., 1985 reported that radioallergosorbent test could serve as a useful techuiqne for the serodiagnosis of human anisakiasis. Their investigations needed however further confirmation on a greater group of the individuals with chronic anisakiasis. Current methods of identification of the Anisakis larvae based on the morphological features are difficult and time consuming. Biochemical analysis to identify unique parasite constituents (like ascaroides in Ascaris) are not successful. Enzyme linked immuno assay procedure have been developed, but the interference by the other substances in fish flesh could not be eliminated. Therefore the goal of the investigations presented recently (Boczoń and Bier, 1986) was to develop biochemical techniques for detecing Anisakis in seafood looking for a metabolic changes that occur in invaded fish host. Like in trichinellosis or fasciolosis the uncoupling of the invaded by Anisakis fish muscle mitochondria was observed. Dependent on the intensity of invasion there is a significant increase of mitochondrial Mg++ - stimulated ATP-ase activity in fish muscle mitochondria isolated from different species invaded by Anisakinae nematodes. This activity can be used to estimate the number of nematodes per market fish. Anisakis simplex excretory-secretory products, which in Boczoń and Bier in vitro experiments also caused the mitochondrial ATP-ase activity in coupled rat mitochondria to increase, were found to be a potent inhibitors of rodent lymphocyte blast transformation (Raybourne et al., 1983) and may contain components which are active in in vitro tests for potential tumor promoters (Raybourne, personal communication).
