Opis:
The study compares chronologically the weeks in which Trichinella spiralis infected meat was consumed. The first symptoms appeared and clinical diagnosis of trichinellosis was made in 37 patients. Several factors were responsible for the delay in final diagnosis of trichinellosis: widely distributed infected meat, contemporary common respiratory viral infections in population with fever and myalgia, diagnostic difficulties in the first index case.

In the period 1997-2000 3968 samples were examined. Parasitological material came from 3174 children and 794 adults. Infection with intestinal protozoan and helminthes was noted in 80.2% of children as well as in 18.5% of adults (to 65 year old) and in 1.3% of patients over 65 year old. Among the children the most often were eggs of Enterobius vermicularis (detcetcd by tongue depressor covered with a transparent adhesive tape) and Giardia lamblia (diagnosed on the detection of coproantigens GSA 65 - commercial kits). Every year the detection of G. lamblia in children was the highest in the autumn-winter months what proved the summer in-fcctions. E. vermicularis occurred more often than G. lamblia however without the seasonal peaks.

Prevalence of Lyme borreliosis in Europe has been well esablished during the last decade. The highest morbidity in Poland, exceeding 100 cases (100.000) year, was demonstrated in north-estern part of the country. Additional small endemic areas were also described in south-western and central part of the country. Clinical picture of the disease do not differ significantly from observed in other parts of Europe. Lyme borreliosis is characterized with a wide variety of manifestations recognized as typical: erythema migrans, borrelial lymphocytoma, acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, arthritis, facial palsy, lymphocytic meningitis and cardiac transduction disturbances. However there are also controversial syndroms, that have confinned etiology of Borrelia burgdorferi but only in some cases, such as: morphea sclerodermatous lesions, cardiomyopathy and some neurologic disorders. Diagnosis of Lyme borreliosis is still based on typical signs of the disease and laboratory techniques can not solve clinical doubts.

Opis:
Toxoplasmosis is a common and generally benign disease in immunocompetent persons caused by Toxoplasma gondii, which is an intestinal coccidian parasite of felines. Diagnosis of toxoplasmosis is mainly based on the results of serological tests detecting anti-T. Gondii specific antibodies, but T lymphocytes and cytokines they produce play a crucial role in determining the outcome of parasitic infection in terms of both protective immunity and immunopathology.

We have analysed all the reported and diagnosed cases of scabies in the years 1999-2000 per 100000 inhabitants in the Łódź voivodeship. The data was obtained from the Regional Administration Unit for the Control of Epidemics and Hygiene Promotion in Łódź. The incidence in Łódź voivodeship was found to be twice as high (89,0) as that in Poland (44.0). The highest incidence in Łódź voivodeship was found in Radomsko (268,0), Pabianice (149,0) and Kutno (148.5) districts. The number or new cases registered in 1999-2000 did not increase in the districts: Łęczyca, Radomsko, Łowicz and Bełchatów.

The aim of the work was to study the prevalence of pediculosis capitis among school childlren in rural areas of Lublin Province in Eastern Poland and to examine its correlation with socio-economic conditions. A group of 42759 schoolchildren aged between 6 and 15 years from 52 rural primary schools were examined.The level of unemployment, number of physicians and number of nurses per 10000 inhabitants were examined in the area of experiment. We achieved the following results: a total of 682 children were found to be infested with Pediculus humanus capitis, mean prevalence was 1.6%. The girls were more frequently infected than boys (75 % for girls and 24% for boys). The children most frequently affected were those aged 6 (1,6%) and 8 to 12 years (1,6-2,1%). The children least affected were those aged 13 to 14 years (0.8-1,1%). The infestation rate was strictly correlated with the number of nurses per 10000 inhabitants. There was no relationship between the level of unemployment or the number of physicians and the infestation rate on experimental area. Our investigations seems to confirme that the prevalence of P. h. capitis is influenced by the level of primary health care, particulary quality of school nurses' work.
