The main objective of this thesis is the assessment of the quantitative and chemical groundwater and surface water status of the Łukowica river catchment area. This area is located within the Magura Nappe of Outer Carpathians that are built of flysch, which is a series of alternating layers of sandstone and shale (Oszczypko & Wójcik 1989a, 1989b). The reason for making hydrological characteristics of the catchment area is i.e. to determine the status and causes of hydrological changes occurring within it, using the surface and groundwater, management, the degree of anthropogenic impact on the water, quantitative and chemical balance of water and the size of disposable and renewable resources of analyzed area. Hydrological investigations are necessary to know the process of water circulation in the catchment area. Then these investigations were the basis for further works focused on the factors affecting features of the river regime. The work is based on my own field researches carried out in September 2015. In order to assess the quantitative and chemical waters status, hydrogeological mappings of the field were performed, including measurements of the depth of groundwater table in dug wells by hydrogeological whistle. The discharge of sources and the volume flow of the river in the upper, middle and lower section, and two inflows was also examined. Flow measurements for the river were made on the 10 meter-section by float method. For the inflows, the volumetric method was applied (Banach 2005). At the end, the literature and cartographic elaborations were collected. Prepared materials enabled to make the hydrogeological map of the quaternary multiaquifer formation and to illustrate the circulation of groundwater. On these basis the groundwater’s renewable and disposable resources of the catchment basin were calculated (Chełmicki 2001) and they are 3086 m 3 /d and 1543 m 3 /d respectively. To determine the amount of reserves of groundwater resources it is necessary to compare obtained results with an average annual extraction from groundwater intakes ( Rozporządzenie..., 2008). For the purpose of the work the water samples were collected in 7 dug wells and in 4 points alongside the river – in the upper, middle and lower section. The samples were analyzed in the Accredited Hydrogeochemical Laboratory of the Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology Department AGH (Accreditation Certificate AB 1050). The test results were the basis for assessing the chemical status of water. They are developed in accordance with applicable laws, which are based on the Water Framework Directive of the European Parliament ( Commission Directive..., 2009) and Regulation of the Minister of the Environment for the criteria and method of evaluation of groundwater status ( Rozporządzenie..., 2015). The mineralization of the surface water of Łukowica River is more or less constant at the entire length and it is 430–450 mg/dm 3, whereas the mineralization of groundwater for the catchment is more diverse and ranges from 325 mg/dm 3 to 553 mg/dm 3. According to the Shchukarev–Priklonskiy classification, both surface water and groundwater are HCO 3 -Ca-Mg type. On the basis of the results of chemical analyzes, the chemical status of groundwater was considered as good, since they were classified as class II of groundwater quality ( Rozporządzenie..., 2015). The limit values for class I have been exceeded for the following cations: Zn 2+, Cu 2+, Mo 6+, Ag +, Ca 2+ and anions: NO 2 − and HCO 3 −. The chemical status of surface water was considered as good, since it was classified as class II of surface water quality ( Rozporządzenie..., 2011). The limit values for I class have been exceeded only for anion HCO 3 −. All European Union countries, including Poland, are obliged to respect the Water Framework Directive, established by the European Parliament in 2000 and updated in 2009 ( Commission Directive..., 2009). It obliges member states to perform i.e. assessment of quantitative and chemical status in an area of separated bodies of groundwater. Result of the assessment of the quantitative and chemical groundwater status is the basis for the development of action programs. These programs lead to protection of groundwater bodies and to achieve good groundwater status at the latest by 2015. Many catchments of small streams have not been covered by such tests so far, hence the appropriateness of conducting the studies mentioned above. Summing up, both surface water and groundwater of the Łukowica River catchment area were classified into class II of water quality, what means that they are characterized by a good chemical status. Mineralization of surface water is similar on the entire length of the river and is 430–450 mg/dm 3. In contrast, mineralization of groundwater is in the range from 325 mg/dm 3 to 553 mg/dm 3. The amount of renewable resources for this catchment is 3086 m 3 /d and the value of disposable resources is 1543 m 3 /d.

The study covered the aquatic environment of two small rivers in Western Pomerania, Poland, such as the Czerwona and the Grabowa. Its purpose was to determine aluminium bioaccumulation in the aquatic environment by testing water, bottom sediments and aquatic plants. Samples were taken in the summers of 2008-2011. pH, electrolytic conductivity and aluminium concentration were determined in water samples, while the sediment and plant samples were submitted to analyses of the aluminium content. The water pH oscillated between 6.04 and 8.95, while the electrolytic conductivity ranged from 440 to 1598 μS cm-1. The aluminium concentration in the river water was up to 0.138 mg Al dm-3 in the Czerwona and up to 0.425 mg Al dm-3 in the Grabowa. The maximum aluminium content in the bottom sediments was 47.01 mg Al kg-1 in the Czerwona River and 26.15 mg Al kg-1 in the Grabowa River. The maximum aluminium content in the aquatic plants sampled from the Czerwona was 91.63 mg Al kg-1, and from the Grabowa – 1,077 mg Al kg-1. The bioconcentration factor (BCF) of aluminium for the Czerwona River ranged from 5.06 to 24,052, and for the Grabowa River – from 1.10 to 70,132. The concentration factor (CF) of aluminium in the bottom sediments oscillated between 66.72 and 23,492 in the Czerwona River and between 14.81 and 2,763 in the Grabowa. The aluminium content in the two rivers was relatively low in the water, sediments and aquatic plants, which is typical of environments without strong anthropopressure. The values fell within the limits set by environmental water quality standards. The low aluminium accumulation degrees in the biotic and abiotic components indicate that the environments of the two rivers have a low load of aluminium compounds.

The aim of the research was to determine the influence of intensive farming on seasonal changes in drainage waters flowing out of catchment areas classified as lands particularly exposed to water pollution from agricultural sources. The research of the influence of farming on the outflow of phosphorus by a drainage network was conducted in 2005 and 2006 in the catchment area of Dobskie Lake. The research object is situated in the area of the Mazurian Lakeland, in the village of Doba. Agricultural areas surrounding the village are used by an agricultural farm named Dobrol, which specializes in pig husbandry. During the 2-year research period, it was noted that the amount of phosphorus flowing by the drainage network depended most of all on atmospheric conditions, season and intensity of agricultural exploitation of the area.
Celem badań było określenie wpływu intensywnej gospodarki rolnej na sezonowe zmiany stężeń odach drenarskich odpływających ze zlewni zakwalifikowanych do obszarów szczególnie narażonych na zanieczyszczenie wód ze źródeł rolniczych. Badania nad wpływem gospodarstwa rolnego na odpływ fosforu siecią drenarską prowadzono w latach 2005-2006 w zlewni jeziora Dobskiego. Obiekt badań położony jest w obrębie Pojezierza Mazurskiego, miejscowości Doba. Tereny rolnicze w otoczeniu wsi użytkowane są przez gospodarstwo rolne, które specjalizuje się w chowie trzody chlewnej. W czasie 2-letniego okresu badań stwierdzono, iż ilość fosforu odprowadzanego siecią drenarską uzależniona była przede wszystkim od warunków atmosferycznych, pory roku oraz intensyfikacji rolniczego użytkowania terenu.

Water erosion in mountainous areas is a major problem, especially on steep slopes exposed to intense precipitation. This paper presents the analysis of the topsoil loss using the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model. The SWAT model is a deterministic catchment model with a daily time step. It was designed to anticipate changes taking place in the catchment area, such as climate change and changes in land use and development, including the quantity and quality of water resources, soil erosion and agricultural production. In addition to hydrological and environmental aspects, the SWAT model is used to address socio-economic and demographic issues, such as water supply and food production. This program is integrated with QGIS software. The results were evaluated using the following statistical coefficients: determination (R2), Nash-Sutcliff model efficiency (NS), and percentage deviation index (PBIAS). An assessment of modelling results was made in terms of their variation according to different land cover scenarios. In the case of the scenario with no change in use, the average annual loss of topsoil (average upland sediment yield) was found to be 14.3 Mg∙ha-1. The maximum upland sediment yield was 94.6 Mg∙ha-1. On the other hand, there is an accumulation of soil material in the lower part of the catchment (in-stream sediment change), on average 13.27 Mg∙ha-1 per year.

Ten years ago, the audit was conducted entitled “Protection of the River Bug Catchment Area in the Years 2003-2006”. Apart from NIK, the audit was conducted by the Supreme Audit Institutions of Ukraine and Belarus. In 2015, the follow-up coordinated audit was carried out entitled “Protection of the River Bug Catchment Area against Pollution”. The audit was conducted on the initiative of the President of the Chamber of Accounts of Ukraine. The audit examined the implementation of the audit conclusions of 2006 aimed at achieving good quality of the waters of the River Bug catchment area, which means the compliance with the Water Framework Directive.

During its entire utilisation history - lasting several hundred years - the area of the Tatra Mountains underwent multidirectional anthropopressure. As the result, all components of their natural environment have been transformed, including relief and water conditions.The analysis of the literature on this topie conducted by the author, as well as his observations performed in the area, confirmed the assumption that transformations caused by human actions developed with varying intensity and admitted various forms depending on the area of action and the magnitude of means applied. The transformation scalę presented here estimates the influence of anthropopressure on the stability of the catchment area systems of larger Tatra streams, partial catchment areas of their confluents and selected slope surfaces. In systems, where the limits of persistence were not exceeded, stability was ensured by natural processes compensating for the conseąuences of anthropopressure. In systems where stability was disturbed, planned preventive measures are necessary.

The article presents the results of research aimed at determining the catchment areas that pose a risk of nitrogen pollution of the waters of the Mała Panew river. The research was carried out in 13 permanent monitoring points located on the Mała Panew. The location of the points ensured the representativeness of the water quality results for parts of the catchment area with a homogeneous type of land use. Concentrations of nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N) and total nitrogen (TN) were determined in the samples taken. The content of (NO3-N) in the third quarter of the year and its relation to the value obtained for the first year quarter may be an indicator of the impact of agricultural activities on the quality of water in streams. In the case of agricultural catchments, the lowest concentrations of (NO3-N) and TN occur in the third quarter of the year and are significantly lower than in the first quarter of the year. The demonstrated seasonal variability of nitrate nitrogen concentrations in agriculturally used areas may be used to determine the type of pressure not allowing to achieve good water status in the surface water body. It was shown that the highest unit increments occurred in areas with a high proportion of forest.
Celem pracy było wyznaczenie zlewni cząstkowych, które stwarzają zagrożenie zanieczyszczenia wód Małej Panwi azotem. Podjęto próbę sklasyfikowania typu użytkowania zlewni (rolniczy/leśny) jako potencjalnego źródła zanieczyszczenia wody w rzece. Zweryfikowano hipotezę dotyczącą związku sezonowej zmienności zawartości związków azotowych, szczególnie w formie azotanowej, z rolniczym użytkowaniem obszaru zlewni cząstkowej. Materiał do badań stanowiły próbki wody z rzeki Mała Panew pobrane w 13 stałych punktach monitoringowych. Lokalizację punktów poboru próbek wyznaczono na podstawie analizy przestrzennego zagospodarowania terenu w oparciu o materiały kartograficzne. Ich lokalizacja zapewniła reprezentatywność wyników jakości wody dla fragmentów zlewni o jednorodnym typie użytkowania terenu. W celu określenia ładunków zanieczyszczeń w wodzie Małej Panwi wyznaczono przepływ średni z wielolecia Q (m3·s-1). W pobranych próbkach oznaczono stężenia azotu azotanowego (NO3-N) i azotu ogólnego (TN). W przypadku zlewni rolniczych najniższe stężenia azotu azotanowego (NO3-N) i TN występują w III kwartale i są znacznie niższe niż w I kwartale. Zawartość azotu azotanowego w trzecim kwartale roku i jego stosunek do wartości uzyskanej dla pierwszego kwartału może być wskaźnikiem wpływu działalności rolniczej na jakość wody w ciekach. Wykazana sezonowa zmienność stężeń azotu azotanowego na terenach użytkowanych rolniczo może być wykorzystana do określenia rodzaju presji nie pozwalającej na osiągnięcie dobrego stanu wód w danej jednolitej części wód powierzchniowych. Wykazano, że najwyższe przyrosty jednostkowe występowały na obszarach o dużym udziale lasów.

For ungauged rivers, when there are no hydrological measurements and there is a lack of data on perennial flow rates, the latter one to be determined based on other hydrological data. The river Suhareka catchment represents a similar case. Since there is no data on Suhareka’s flow rates, the authors of this study aimed for the flow rate determination based on rainfall measurements. From the available data on annual precipitation (monthly sums) provided by the Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute for the Suhareka hydrometric station, the observed monthly rainfall data for 30 years were analysed. Those gaps were initially filled by connecting the hydrometric station in Suhareka with those of Prishtina, Prizren and Ferizaj, and as a result a fairly good fit was ensured. Moreover, the intensity-duration-frequency curves were formed using the expression of Sokolovsky, as a mathematical model of the dependence I (T, P). For a transformation of rainfall into flow, the American method SCS was used. As a result, the equation for the Suhareka River basin was derived, which enabled the determination of maximum inflows, for different return periods. The results obtained through this paper, indicates that even for ungauged river basins the peak flows can be determined from available rainfall data.

In the years 1993-1995 biological research was carried out on three lakes, which are situated in a typical agricultural catchment area, along the Gołaniecka River. The hydrobiological examination carried out in 1993 revealed a stable state of eutrophy on these lakes. At that time neither of the Bukowieckie lakes was used for recreation, while at the Kobyleckie lake there were a number of buildings, including private holiday homes and holiday camps. In 1995, the year finishing the examination, recreation housing began to develop at the Bukowieckie Du?e lake and also an acceleration of tourism was observed on the Kobyleckie lake. In the spring and summer of 2000 hydrobiological research was repeated in order to find out whether the changes in the neighbourhood of the lakes had affected the chemical condition of lake waters. Although the building area by the lakes was still unfinished, particular changes of many parameters of water were already observed. Negative effects of trophic status were noted in the decrease of the visibility of water, increase of the nutrients concentration, in the outstanding blue-green algae character of the spring phytoplankton (Aphanizomenon issatschenkoi (Ussac.) Proschkina-Lavrenko; Planktothrix agardhii (Gom.) Anagn. et Kom.; Limnothrix redekei (Van Goor) Meffert) and zooplankton (Keratella cochlearis f. tecta (Lauterborn), K. quadrata (O.F. Müller), Anuraeopsis fissa (Gosse), Bosmina longirostris (O.F. Müller) and Chydorus sphaericus (O.F. Müller)), the increase of the total densities of zooplankton with the dominance of rotifers, the impoverishment of the phytolittoral, as well as quality and quantity changes in the structure of macrophytes.
W latach 1993-1995 przeprowadzono badania biologiczne na jeziorach: Bukowieckim Du- żym, Bukowieckim Małym i Kobyleckim, położonych w obrebie typowej zlewni rolniczej, wzdłuż Strugi Gołanieckiej. Badania hydrobiologiczne przeprowadzone w 1993 roku swiadczyły o stabilnym stanie eutrofii w tych jeziorach. W tym czasie ?adne z jezior Bukowieckich nie było wykorzystywane rekreacyjnie, podczas gdy nad Jeziorem Kobyleckim wystepowała zabudowa obejmujaca domki letniskowe i kempingi. W 1995 roku, po zakonczeniu badan, rozpoczeła sie budowa domków rekreacyjnych nad Jeziorem Bukowieckim Dużym, zaobserwowano także wzrost rekreacji nad Jeziorem Kobyleckim. W okresie wiosennym i letnim 2000 roku powtórzono badania hydrobiologiczne w celu stwierdzenia, czy zmiany w sasiedztwie jezior miały wpływ na parametry chemiczne ich wód. Chocia? zabudowa nad jeziorami nie była jeszcze zakonczona, zaobserwowano zmiany kilku parametrów wody badanych jezior (tab. 2). Głównym celem przeprowadzonych badan był opis istotnych zmian jakosciowych i ilosciowych parametrów fizyczno-chemicznych i biologicznych, ze szczególnym odniesieniem do aspektów dotyczacych wzrostu poziomu trofii badanych zbiorników. Negatywne efekty w stanie trofii były zwiazane ze zmniejszajaca sie przezroczystoscia wody, wzrostem koncentracji biogenów, wybitnie sinicowym charakterem fitoplanktonu wiosennego (Aphanizomenon issatschenkoi (Ussac.) Proschkina-Lavrenko; Planktothrix agardhii (Gom.) Anagn. et Kom.; Limnothrix redekei (Van Goor) Meffert) i zooplanktonem (Keratella cochlearis f. tecta (Lauterborn), K. quadrata (O. F. Müller), Anuraeopsis fissa (Gosse), Bosmina longirostris (O.F. Müller) and Chydorus sphaericus (O.F. Müller)), wzrostem całkowitej liczebnosci zooplanktonu z dominacja wrotków (tab. 3, ryc. 1, 2), zniszczeniami w strefie fitolitoralu i zmianami jakosciowymi i ilosciowymi w strukturze makrofitów (tab. 4).

Introduction: In the past decade, the Polish airport market has seen an unprecedented increase in passenger numbers. Regional airports in the second half of the XX century functioned as monopolies in a market heavily typified by Chicago style bilateral contracts. Consequently, a "hub-and-spoke" system has been in operation, where the regional airports perform the role of first port of call for passengers flying into a hub. Open skies policy, as well as the emergence of low cost airlines in 2004 upgraded the status of regional airports to that of regular commercial ones. Many of these had the opportunity to report a profit for the first time, as well as being able to function in a competitive environment where they could directly compete with other airports both for new carriers, in order to expand their connection network, as well as for new passengers. In this environment, a key factor to success to an increasing extent has become the airport's position in the market in comparison to similar sized airports as well as in reference to developing hubs like Berlin. Methods: Using information about network connections, the number and type of passengers at specific airports, flight times and distances to and from airports, a 2 hour isochrone analysis was carried out and 4D strategic maps were constructed. As a result of the data analysis it was possible to identify several market subgroups consisting of airports competing for the same passenger, network connection and/or geographical profile. Results: Accepting as a premise that the further development of Berlin as a hub will see the airport maintaining a similar carrier structure and list of destinations on offer, it can be classified in the same strategic group of hub airports as Prague and Warsaw. The results identified a relatively consistent group of the 6 biggest regional Polish airports as well as a group of second-tier international hubs which shared certain characteristics of regional airports. The final group to be identified in the results was that of the smallest Polish airports whose importance for the market is negligible. Conclusions: The growth of Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt (BER) as a hub airport poses a greater threat to the influence of Warsaw's Chopin Airport (WAW) in western Poland than to the functioning of regional airports in Poland. These airports as well as developing quick intermodal connections will have to increasingly actively find their own niches in the market. A potential threat to Wroclaw (WRO) airport may in the future come from the growth of smaller German airports such as Leipzig and Dresden and/ or their Czech equivalents. In the eventuality of an abolition of restrictive visa requirements between Poland and Russia, a similar phenomenon may be observed in the future with the airports in Gdansk and Kaliningrad.
Wstęp: Polski rynek lotniczy na przestrzeni ostatniej dekady doznał bezprecedensowego wzrostu dynamiki przewozów pasażerskich. Regionalne porty lotnicze w drugiej połowie XX wieku działały jako lokalni monopoliści na rynku mocno uregulowanym bilateralnymi umowami typu chicagowskiego. W konsekwencji funkcjonowały wyłącznie w systemie "hub-and-spoke", w których pełniły rolę pierwszego przystanku dla pasażerów lecących do hubów. Umowy otwartego nieba oraz pojawienie się przewoźników niskokosztowych w roku 2004 przeorientowały działalność polskich regionalnych lotnisk na typowo rynkową. Wiele z nich po raz pierwszy miało szansę na przekroczenie progu rentowności oraz funkcjonowanie w otoczeniu konkurencyjnym walcząc z innymi portami lotniczymi zarówno o nowych przewoźników generujących większą siatkę połączeń jak i nowych pasażerów. W tych warunkach kluczowym czynnikiem sukcesu w coraz większym stopniu staje się identyfikacja pozycji rynkowej względem podmiotów podobnej wielkości oraz rozbudowywujących się hubów takich jak lotnisko w Berlinie. Metody: Korzystając z informacji o siatce połączeń, liczbie i rodzaju pasażerów w poszczególnych portach lotniczych, odległościach i czasach przejazdu z i do portów lotniczych dokonano analizy izochron 2h oraz skonstruowano mapy strategiczne 4D. W wyniku analizy udało się wyodrębnić kilka podgrup rynkowych składających się z portów konkurujących między sobą profilem pasażera, typem siatki połączeń oraz geograficznie. Wyniki: Zakładając, że dalszy rozwój berlińskiego hubu będzie polegał na zachowaniu podobnej struktury przewoźników i oferowanych przez nich kierunków, lotnisko zakwalifikowano do tej samej grupy strategicznej co huby w Pradze i Warszawie. Wyodrębniono również dość spójną grupę 6 największych polskich regionalnych portów lotniczych oraz grupę dużych drugorzędnych hubów zagranicznych, których charakterystyka ma pewne cechy portów regionalnych. Ostatnia wyodrębniona grupa to najmniejsze polskie porty lotnicze, których znaczenie dla rynku jest znikome. Wnioski: Rozwój berlińskiego hubu będzie w większym stopniu zagrażać penetracji rynku Zachodniej Polski przez warszawskie lotnisko Chopina, niż samej działalności polskich portów regionalnych. Te ostatnie wraz z rozwojem szybkich połączeń intermodalnych będą musiały coraz aktywniej szukać swoich rynkowych nisz. Potencjalne zagrożenie konkurencyjne dla lotniska we Wrocławiu może z kolei być w przyszłości coraz większym udziałem mniejszych portów niemieckich, takich jak Lipsk i Drezno oraz ich czeskich odpowiedników. W razie zniesienia restrykcyjnej polityki wizowej między Polską i Rosją podobne zjawisko mogłoby również wystąpić między lotniskami w Gdańsku i Kaliningradzie.

Extensive disintegration of spruce forests in the Beskidy Mts. in South Poland generates a need to regenerate sizeable areas as well as to rebuild forest stands which have defended themselves against breakdown. In practice, the magnitude of relevant management tasks does not allow for keeping up with the progressive destruction of forest, especially at higher altitudes, where natural regeneration does not occur as much as necessary. In addition, the species composition is limited to spruce, sometimes accompanied by beech and fir, whereas other species have a negligible share. What may be helpful in solving this problem is the method of regeneration of such areas and of establishment of under-canopy cultures, consisting of patchwork, multi-stage regeneration task performance, starting from the areas with the best chance of reforestation success and using the existing self-sown trees. Such areas undoubtedly include habitats with better water balance, i.e. humid habitats (in the case of larger areas, distinguished in the forest management plan as humid forest site types). The aim of the present study was to propose management of watercourses and headwater areas in the region of the Skrzyczne massif where the selected catchments are situated on the southern (the Malinowski Stream) and the northern (the Roztoka Czyrna stream) slopes of this massif. The research was carried out in August 2012 and included juxtaposition of available hydrological maps with actual field conditions along with identification of springs and streams and the course of their beds in order to update the existing data. The updating of the forest numerical maps in the existing databases of the State Forests IT System (SILP) included verification of the course of streams and determination of their nature (penament or periodic) with a division into the existing ones and the added ones. The data was recorded against the background of the division of the forest surface, contour lines, major roads, climate and plant floors and forest habitat types. The total length of streams was ascertained. The catchment areas and areas along their beds were determined by adopting variable distances from the beds, depending on climate and plant zones and the slope gradient. The adopted distances were: 5 m in the upper forest zone, 10 m in the middle forest zone, 20 m in the lower forest zone on both sides of the bed and in the headwater area within the radius of 10 m from a source. Specific sylvicultural procedures in headwater areas and in the neighbourhood of watercourses were described in each climatic and vegetation zones.

The aim of the study was to determine the distribution of prevailing forest types within the catchment areas of the biggest rivers in the north-east of Ukraine. During the allocation of the catchment areas of the studied rivers, the MapInfo Professional 12.5 program and the vector map of Ukraine were used. The research covered the forest area (more than 502,000 ha) of the state forest enterprises managed by the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine. The studied area located on the tributaries of the Sula, Psel, Vorskla and Siversky Donets rivers within the Poltava, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv and Cherkasy administrative regions of Ukraine. The analysis of the forest fund was carried out based on the electronic subcompartment database of the Ukrderzhlisproekt Production Association, using the application software and geoinformation technologies. It was revealed that a large variety of forest types in the tributaries of the Sula, Psel, Vorskla and Siversky Donets rivers as well as the prevalence of fresh fertile maple-lime oak and fresh fairly infertile oak-pine forest types (in 75 tributaries of Psel, Vorskla and Siversky Donets rivers) and fresh fertile maple-lime oak and fresh fertile hornbeam oak forest types (in 20 tributaries of the Sula River) are due to the relief, hydrological and soil-climatic conditions of the studied area, as well as anthropogenic factor. Assuming homogeneous natural conditions, an insignificant number of forest types are formed (up to five). For a large variety of natural conditions, there are at least six forest types that should be taken into account during forest management, along with the characteristics of the catchment areas of tributaries. The analysed data on the total number of forest types in the catchments of rivers would be appropriate to use in the future when creating a single list of forest types for the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. The prevalence of certain forest types within the catchment areas of tributaries of the Sula, Psel, Vorskla and Siversky Donets rivers directly depends on the soil and climatic conditions, geomorphological structure, relief and anthropogenic influence in the forests. Opis:
Concentrations of a large set of major and trace elements, and Sr, Nd and Pb isotope ratios were measured in Holocene sediments cored in the western deep Black Sea in order to unravel: (1) the controls of element enrichment, and (2) sources of the detrital component. The transition of the basin from oxic to euxinic resulted in enrichment or depletion in a number of elements in the deep-sea sediments. Authigenic Fe enrichment appears to depend on the amount of Fe mobilized from the sediment through the benthic redox shuttle mechanism and free H2S in the water column (degree of “euxinization”). Manganese enrichment is controlled by diagenetic reactions within the sediment: the dissolution of Mn minerals, Mn2+ diffusion upward and reprecipitation. Barium enrichment is also controlled by diagenetic reactions, sulfate reduction and methanogenesis, that take place above and below the sulfate-methane transition, respectively. The major part of V, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cr, Mo, Cd and Sb is inferred to have co-precipitated with Fe in the euxinic deep waters and to have been incorporated into authigenic Fe-sulfides. Basin reservoir effect additionally influences the Mo enrichment. The U enrichment is interpreted to have a different origin in the two organic-rich stratigraphic units (II and I). It is inferred to be: (i) at the expense of the U inventory of the deepwater pool and a result of inorganic reduction of U at euxinic conditions in the lower Unit II; and (ii) at the expense of the U inventory of the surface water pool and a result of biogenic uptake and transfer to the sediment by the plankton in the upper Unit I. The high field strength elements are closely linked to the detrital component and their depletion in the organic-rich sediments reflects a dilution of the detrital component by the biogenic one. The enrichments of REE, Sn and Th are likely controlled by adsorption on clay minerals. Sr-Nd-Pb isotope compositions of the alumino-silicate component of the studied sediments are relatively uniform. They are most likely controlled by riverine suspended matter supplied mainly in the NW Black Sea (Danube Delta) and transported southward by marine currents, and to a lesser degree by suspended matter from the small rivers draining SE Bulgaria and NW Turkey. Wind-blown dust from the Sahara Desert appears to have a minor contribution to the alumino-silicate component of the sediments. The slight shift in the Pb isotopes in Unit I upper layers is possibly caused by the addition of anthropogenic Pb.

Opis:
The study concerns with the effect of catchment area use on lead and zinc accumulation in the bottom deposits of lakes. It was carried out in two water bodies in the Olsztyn Lakeland. The catchment areas of the investigated lakes are used for various purposes, ranging from forests to agricultural production. Lake Ardung (N 53o45, E 20o 55) is situated in the eastern part of the Masurian Lakeland, approximately 25 km east of Olsztyn. The lake has an area of 26.2 ha and a maximum depth of 3.6 m. The lake’s catchment area of 1539 ha is covered by farmland in 2 %, grassland in 2 %, fallow land overgrown with shrubs in 11.4 % and forests in 84.6 %. Lake Bukwald (N 53o58, E 20o 16) is located in the vicinity of the village of Bukwald, municipality of Dywity, around 20 km north of Olsztyn. The lake’s catchment area of 1156.8 ha comprises arable land in 60 %, forests and afforested areas in 31 % and wasteland in the remaining part. The studied water bodies were characterized by low concentrations of the analyzed elements. The average lead and zinc levels reached 28.3 mg/kg d.m. and 32.3 mg/kg d.m., respectively in Lake Ardung, and 33.3 mg/kg d.m. and 91.9 mg/kg d.m., respectively in Lake Bukwald. The total zinc and lead accumulation in the bottom deposits of the investigated water bodies, in terms of the surface area of the lakes and their catchments, was significantly higher in Lake Bukwald than in Lake Ardung.
Do badań mających na celu określenie wpływu użytkowania zlewni jezior na akumulację ołowiu i cynku w ich osadach dennych wytypowano dwa zbiorniki położone na obszarze Pojezierza Olsztyńskiego. Zlewnie badanych jezior obejmują obszary o zróżnicowanym zagospodarowaniu - od obszarów leśnych po użytki rolne. Jezioro Ardung (N 53o45 , E 20o 55 ) położone jest we wschodniej części Pojezierza Mazurskiego ok. 25 km na wschód od Olsztyna. Powierzchnia jeziora wynosi 26,2 ha, natomiast jego maksymalna głębokość 3,6 m. Na obszarze zlewni jeziora o powierzchni 1539 ha grunty orne stanowią 2 %, łąki i pastwiska 2 %, odłogi w znacznym stopniu zakrzewione 11,4 % i 84,6 % lasy. Jezioro Bukwałd (N 53o58 , E 20o 16 ) położone jest w okolicach wsi Bukwałd w gminie Dywity około 20 km na północ od Olsztyna. Całkowita zlewni jeziora Bukwałd wynosi 1156,8 ha, z czego 60 % stanowią grunty orne, 31 % to lasy i tereny zalesione, pozostałą część stanową nieużytki. Badane osady charakteryzowały się niskim stężeniem badanych pierwiastków i w jeziorze Ardung średnie stężenie Pb wynosiło 28,3 mg Pb/kg s.m., natomiast Zn - 32,3 mg Zn/kg s.m., zaś w jeziorze Bukwałd było to 33,3 mg Pb/kg s.m. oraz 91,1 mg Zn/kg s.m. Także całkowita akumulacja cynku i ołowiu w osadach badanych zbiorników zarówno w odniesieniu do powierzchni lustra wody, jak i zlewni była zdecydowanie większa w osadach jeziora Bukwałd niż śródleśnego jeziora Ardung.
