Opis:
The summary of the measurements of CO2 stable isotopic composition emitted from different anthropogenic sources in the Krakow region is presented. The sources are divided into three main groups . high emission (electric and heat power plants), low emission (coal and methane burning in the households) and car traffic (gasoline, diesel and LPG supplied engines equipped and not equipped with catalyst). Presented results include two measurement campaigns made in the years 1995 and 2000. The measurements revealed three well-defined groups with respect to carbon isotope composition (delta13CVPDB): .30.60 plus-minus sign 0.37 per mille (thousand) sign (car traffic) .23.82 plus-minus sign 0.10 per mille (thousand) sign (coal burning) and .51.8 plus-minus sign 1.1per mille (thousand) sign (methane burning). The oxygen isotope composition (delta18OVPDB-CO2) of CO2 varied in a broad range, from ca. .11per mille (thousand) sign to ca. .22 per mille (thousand) sign, the most negative values being observed for coal and methane burning and the most positive for cars equipped with a catalyst. No significant isotopic shift has been observed between two measurement campaigns.

Opis:
In this paper, one of the ways to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere through the use of various types of solar power plants (SES) was considered. The paper provides an overview of the energy resources that currently exist in the Republic of Cuba, as well as the new investments made by the country in order to introduce a more extensive use of the renewable energy sources. The paper also describes the benefits of renewable energy that help to reduce the CO2 emissions into the environment.

Opis:
Packed soil-core incubation experiments were done to study the effects of carbon (glucose, 6.4 g C m-2) and nitrogen (NH4Cl and KNO3, 4.5 g N m-2) addition on nitrous oxide (N2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) fluxes during thawing of frozen soils under two forest stands (broadleaf and Korean pine mixed forest and white birch forest) with two moisture levels (55 and 80% water-filled pore space). With increasing soil moisture, the magnitude and longevity of the flush N2O flux from forest soils was enhanced during the early period of thawing, which was accompanied by great NO3--N consumption. Without N addition, the glucose-induced cumulative CO2 fluxes ranged from 9.61 to 13.49 g CO2-C m-2, which was larger than the dose of carbon added as glucose. The single addition of glucose increased microbial biomass carbon but slightly affected soil dissolved organic carbon pool. Thus, the extra carbon released upon addition of glucose can result from the decomposition of soil native organic carbon. The glucose-induced N2O and CO2 fluxes were both significantly correlated to the glucose-induced total N and dissolved organic carbon pools and influenced singly and interactively by soil moisture and KNO3 addition. The interactive effects of glucose and nitrogen inputs on N2O and CO2 fluxes from forest soils after frost depended on N sources, soil moisture, and vegetation types.

Opis:
The paper presents technologies currently being developed for methanol production and its applications. Particular attention was paid to energy storage technology in the form of “renewable” methanol, which is produced from hydrogen generated from surplus energy from renewable energy sources and from captured CO2. The global methanol market was characterized, i.e. global demand, major producers and global demand for products made from methanol. The installation of methanol production and purification with stoichiometry as well as the methodology for assessing the efficiency of such an installation are also presented. The results of the analysis of such an installation were discussed in accordance with the methodology given.

Opis:
Uncontrolled methane release from clathrates may intensify global warming, causes deoxygenation and changes of pH of oceanic water, prompt tsunami and other hazards. On the other hand, it can be a great source of unconventional fossil fuels in the future, when conventional sources will be depleted and renewable sources not enough developed. The problem is how to ensure its safe exploitation. Methane clathrate breakdown, environmental impacts and feedback between them are presented and possible commercial methods of methane exploitation are compared. Finally, a selected method of methane clathrate exploitation that minimalizes environmental hazards is proposed. Among possible methods such as thermal stimulation, depressurization, inhibitor injection and gas exchange, only the latter one is ecologically friendly and can diminish climate warming with simultaneous CO2 sequestration.
