It seems that in the 21st century business needs to adapt faster than ever to the expectations of the external environment. This makes it necessary to look for new solutions that give the opportunity to reconcile the needs and expectations of consumers who are increasingly aware and enterprise which are trying to meet new requirements. As a result there is a change in the perception of existing business models and a move beyond the linear economic model. The new optics of looking at business is both legitimate and necessary. One of such concepts is Circular Economy (CE) which incorporates the existing management concepts into the strategic idea of natural resources protection. What is more, the assumptions of the CE are coherent with the postulates of sustainable development and, in particular, environmental aspects, which constitutes its additional value. The aim of the article is to present the idea of CE in terms of business models.

The aim of the article is to present the concept of business model (based on A. Osterwalder’s business model framework) as an outsourcing project planning and description tool in Electrolux Poland Ltd. The article opens with a synthetic overview of the business model proposed by A. Osterwalder as well as justification for the selection of this particular concept as a tool for project planning and description. Next, the company`s outsourcing projects are briefly presented. The paper closes the description of the business model as a tool of the project management in Electrolux Poland Ltd. The case shows the potential of this Business Model Canvas in the management of not only the company as a whole (level of ownership and board of directors), but also project management within the organization. It proves that the concept can be very useful in particular in the planning stage of the project; it also serves more precise (more understandable, coherent) project description.

In this study, we explore the connections between business model adaptation and the success of new ventures. We do so by analysing in depth the business model evolution of three new Italian ventures throughout their first years of life. We try to understand if and how the evolution of these firms’ business models is connected to their success. Our analysis reveals that adapting their business models was crucial to enabling these firms to survive in extremely dynamic environments. However, it did not fully act as a catalyst for their processes of growth and did not increase their profitability.

Przeprowadzone prace umożliwiły sformułowanie opisu składników statycznych i dynamicznych modelu biznesu sieci przedsiębiorstw. Wyłoniono także kryteria ilościowe orzekania o istnieniu modelu biznesu sieci przedsiębiorstw.
Today’s conditions which the companies take actions are turbulent in nature. In answer to this turbulence companies are joining in large and flexible organizations. On this basis the enterprise networks are created, characterized by flexibility, a shared objective to create value for customers and achieve other common goals. When many enterprises participate in the network of value creation, there is the problem of creating a common business model. This problem can be summarized by the following questions: Can enterprises cooperating in the enterprise network also establish a common business model? If so, what should be the level of relations between these enterprises to be able to talk about the actual emergence of a common business model? The aim of the theoretical work was to formulate the basic assumptions of the model to identify business enterprise networks. For this purpose a hypothesis was built: it is possible that the network of companies operates according to its own, specific business model. The work carried out enabled the description of the components of the formulation of static and dynamic business model enterprise networks. The quantitative criteria to rule on the existence of the business model enterprise networks were also established.

Companies today face volatile environments, short product life cycles, and changing customer requirements, which is especially the case in high-technology fields. In such environments, concentrating only on technological and product innovations is not sufficient to gain competitive advantages. Instead, companies need innovative business models in order to stand out from their competitors. To successfully change business models, companies require appropriate competencies. Thus, the objective of this research is to identify how companies can prepare their business model(s) to counteract environmental changes flexibly. With the aid of the chosen exploratory, qualitative research design, we investigate companies operating in hightechnology branches. In total, 20 companies participated in our study. The interviews were conducted with CEOs, vice-presidents, product managers or other managers responsible for business model developments. The research revealed that companies can prepare the business model and its elements ex ante through developing capabilities in order to raise the flexibility of the business model. These capabilities have to be developed with regard to several internal and external issues driving these changes.

Multisided, digital platforms attract considerable attention in business and academic circles. Seven out of the ten most valuable companies in the world derive much of their value from multisided platforms. The problem of defining and measuring value remains a major challenge in management literature. In this paper I analyze the relationship between the sales (revenue) and market capitalization of companies with digital platform business models. Data was used from a sample of 19 companies that used platform business models in 2017. To assess the correlation, Pearson correlation coefficient was applied. The results indicate that there was a significant positive relationship between revenue and market capitalization in 2017. This suggests that revenue may be used as the main variable in the valuation of companies using platform business models. The results point to future research problems that may be addressed using casebased methodology.

Opis:
In e-business freemium business models have become legitimate. However, current research provides little insight on how the free and premium offering should be employed to lead to growth and success in the long run. The presented research aims to fill this gap by investigating how the property ‘free’ was employed in young entrepreneurial ventures’ business models in the initial life-cycle stages – opportunity recognition, market entry, and market exploitation. We find that various forms of freemium business models are employed through the initial life-cycle stages of a new venture for reasons of trial-and-error, learning, exploration, legitimization and resource acquisition. A freemium business model can also serve as a nascent business model, though without a sustainable monetization component, for finding a sustainable business model through a series of dynamic adjustments. With our findings we contribute to the business model literature in three ways: First, our empirical findings show the many-sidedness of the component ‘free’ in freemium business models. Free users are of importance for network building, exploration and exploitation and growth over time. Moreover, free users enable directly and indirectly further resource acquisition. Second, while previous literature has taken a static perspective, we contribute by illustrating the dynamic process of strategic business model design for growth. Finally, we introduce the concept of the nascent business model which is new to the literature.

The traditional and current approach to business models in business aviation is based only on aircraft ownership and does not describe the business aviation segment of civil aviation sufficiently. In this paper, we apply a two-dimensional approach analysing the product of companies competing in the business aviation segment of civil aviation. Our analysis combines two product-related components: fleet attributes and portfolio of services to confirm a diversity of business aviation companies and their business models. Using data of thirty business aviation companies from world regions, we reveal a diversity of business models in business aviation that is contradicting with a traditional approach to business models in business aviation.
