    Since the mid-twentieth century, there has been a discussion in the academy about “two cultures”: humanities and sciences and the so-called third culture. In this article I outline the history of this debate. I also present new trends in contemporary humanistic reflection: posthumanism and transhumanism, which are based on interdisciplinary research. I am also describing the projects and the output of several currents of contemporary art: robotic art, bio art and bio-robotic art.

    Bio art is a specific trend of contemporary art practice, where artists adapt solutions offered by biosciences in order to create living works of art. Their actions are a subject to a discussion with dominant voices concerning the significance of such experiments for the fundamental ascertainments concerning what life is, but also for understanding the status of these constructed entities, which thus fur have not existed in nature. Posthumanist discourses such as aesthetics of care, non-anthropocentric aesthetics and zoe-aesthetics are a few examples of this type of reflection. However, is it possible that works, which could be described in terms of kitsch, constitute a solid ground for discussion of this kind? Clement Greenberg has written of kitsch that it is ʻmechanical and operates by formulas. Kitsch is vicarious experience and faked sensations. Kitsch changes according to style, but remains always the same. Kitsch is the epitome of all that is spurious in the life of our times . If kitsch represents everything that is spurious and non-authentic in our life, can we use it in order to make general statements concerning the basis of life? Can we make statements concerning the fundamental problem of life on the basis of projects, which confront us with glow-in-the-dark rabbits or paintings created with genetically modified colorful bacteria? In my paper I would like to refer to these questions on the basis of an artwork that can be classified in terms of kitsch.

    Mikroorganizmy są nieodłączną składową otaczającego nas świata – również człowieka. Nie występują przypadkowo, ale jako wieloelementowe konsorcja zamieszkujące określone siedliska, tworzą mikrobiomy. W dobie najnowszych doniesień naukowych oraz niepohamowanego przepływu informacji, zdajemy sobie sprawę z tego, że mikroorganizmy pełnią ważną, choć nieuchwytną, rolę w naszym życiu. Mikroorganizmy stanowią o jestestwie człowieka – bez mikrobiomu, człowiek jest jałową planetą skazaną na zagładę. Jak ważna jest rola mikrobiomu, jak dalekosiężne w skutkach jest zachwianie w nim równowagi – to nie jest już tak oczywiste. Człowiek ostatecznie został strącony z piedestału władcy stworzenia – biologiczne fakty dokładają kamyczek do ogródka posthumanizmu. Mikrobiom to nie są organizmy obok – biernie wykorzystujące człowieka jako niszę ekologiczną. To mikrobiom pomaga człowiekowi trawić, walczyć z infekcjami, a także, co mniej oczywiste, wpływa na jego zachowanie. Człowiek nie istnieje obok milionów mikroorganizmów, ale to wespół z nimi jest tym, kim jest. Nie jesteśmy z milionami; jesteśmy milionami. W niniejszym wywodzie zamierzam przybliżyć złożoną tematykę ludzkiego mikrobiomu. Ukażę te oczywiste oraz te mniej oczywiste ekosystemy planety Człowiek. Pokażę również niezwykłą, często wielopoziomową sieć oddziaływań rządzącą tym światem. Poznanie ludzkiego mikrobiomu nie byłyby możliwe bez najnowszych zdobyczy techniki, dlatego przedstawię również wyzwania, które stawia metodologia tych badań. Wydaje się to istotne w kontekście możliwości transmisji tej tematyki na pole bio artu.
    Microorganisms are an inseparable component of the world around us, including humans. They do not occur randomly, but they form multi-element consortia inhabiting specific habitats, they form microbiomes. In the era of the latest scientific reports and the unrestrained flow of information, we realize that microorganisms play an important, though elusive, role in our lives. Microorganisms constitute the human being - without a microbiome, the human is a barren planet condemned to destruction. It is not so obvious how important the role of the microbiome is, and what are the consequences of an imbalance in it. The human is finally knocked down from the pedestal of the ruler of creation - biological facts are added to posthumanism. Microbes are not organisms living next to us, passively using humans as an ecological niche. The microbiome helps human to digest, fight infections and, what is less obvious, affects his behaviour. Humans do not merely exist next to millions of microorganisms, but together with them, he is who he is. We are not with millions; we are the millions. In this article, I intend to introduce the complex topic of the human microbiome. I will describe the obvious and less obvious ecosystems of the planet Human. I will also show the unusual, often multi-level network of interactions that rule this world. Getting to know the human microbiome would not be possible without the latest technological achievements, so I will also present the challenges posed by the methodology of this research. It is important in the context of the possibility of transmitting information on this topic to the bio art.

    Ekologia rozumiana jako jeden z programów badawczych nauk biologicznych eksploruje relacje pomiędzy organizmami i środowiskiem na wielu hierarchicznie powiązanych poziomach organizacji życia biologicznego – osobnik, populacja, zespół, biocenoza, ekosystem, biom i biosfera. W wielowymiarowych badaniach ekologicznych korzysta się z aparatu metodycznego wielu nauk: fizyki, matematyki, chemii, geologii czy hydrologii. W ostatnich dwóch dekadach obserwujemy nurt w ekologii wyrastający z tzw. „neutralnej teorii bioróżnorodności i biogeografii”, zakładający, że w układach wielogatunkowych gatunki są ekologicznie ekwiwalentne/równocenne lub mogą być uważane za selektywnie identyczne (tj. „neutralne”). Neutralne podejście, interdyscyplinarny i społeczny wymiar ekologii stwarza możliwości powiązań z kulturowo-filozoficznym nurtem posthumanizmu. Posthumanizm zakładający odrzucenie antropocentryzmu i „szowinizmu gatunkowego” wpisuje się w podejścia metodyczne stosowane już od wielu dekad w ekologii. Rozwój obszarów problemowych bazujących na ekologii poszczególnych grup organizmów: ekologia roślin, ekologia zwierząt; różnych poziomów organizacji czy zastosowań społecznych: ochrona przyrody, ochrona środowiska i inżynieria ekologiczna wskazuje na swoistą „posthumanistyczną optykę” badań ekologicznych. W niniejszym pracy przedstawiono wspólne obszary problemowe/metodologiczne w ekologii i szeroko pojętego podejścia posthumanistycznego. Stawiając tezę, że program badawczy ekologii już od dawna wpisuje się posthumanistyczny nurt. W pracy przyjąłem następujące założenia: (1) układy ekologicznie są hierarchiczne i powiązane siecią relacji; (2) posthumanizm zrywa ze strukturą hierarchiczną i zakłada równocenność różnych form życia. W obszarze kulturowym posthumanizm zdefiniowany w latach 80 i 90-tych dwudziestego wieku, powinien wypracować metody umożliwiające przeniesienie problematyki wielowymiarowych struktur biologicznych na sztukę bio artu.
    Ecology understood as a research project within the biological sciences explores the relations between organisms and the environment. It does so at numerous hierarchically connected levels of natural life organisation – the specimen, the population, the assemblage, the biocenose, the ecosystem, the biome and the biosphere. Multidimensional ecological research involves the methodologies of multiple sciences, like physics, mathematics, chemistry, geology or hydrology. In the latest two decades, we have seen a drift in ecology rooted in the so-called ‘neutral theory of biodiversity and biogeography,’ which assumes that the species constituting multispecies systems are ecologically equivalent/equally valuable or may be considered selectively identical (i.e., ‘neutral’). The neutrality of approach, the multidisciplinary and social dimension of ecology offer its possible interconnections with the cultural and philosophical current of posthumanism. Posthumanism, which rejects anthropocentrism and ‘speciesism’, is congruent with the methodological approach that has been used in ecology for decades. The emergence and growth of problem areas based on the ecology of groups of organisms, like plant ecology, animal ecology; on various levels of organisation or social application, like nature conservation, protection of the environment or ecological engineering reveal this specific ‘posthuman perspective’ in ecological studies. The present study discusses problem and methodology areas that are common to ecology and the broadly understood posthuman approach. Its proposition is that the research agenda of ecology has long been in the mainstream of the posthuman current. The author has made the following assumptions: (1) ecological systems are hierarchical and interconnected by a network or relations; (2) posthumanism rejects the hierarchy and assumes the equality of all forms of life. In the realm of culture, the posthumanism of the 1980s and 1990s should develop methods capable of translating the multidimensional problems of biological structures to artistic output connected with bio art

    Opis:
    Could be the „live” architecture, which in principle has to serve the environment and human, classified as an art? Can we consider it both ways: as a sculpture and as a concept of building? This paper answers not only these questions, but also the ones connected strictly with the concept of home and its perception, in the view of Juhani Pallasmaa. Aesthetics redefines itself in the terms of bioart and the “living” architecture. Obviously, this change lies on the path of avant-garde movement, which from the early XX negotiate the content of the idea of art. Due to that, the Spatium Gelatum made by Oksiuta could be a figure of architecture experiment and a reception test of the biological habitual form, which breaks off with the concepts dated back to the beginning of an XX century.

Bio art provokes critical thinking about the place and role of people in today’s world.
