Opis:: The present work deals with the exploration of a new model proposed for the reliability analysis of industrial production systems. This proposed model is mainly based on the tangent hyperbolic function, where the survival function is determined and used in the lifetime distribution modeling taking into account of estimation the parameters of the proposed function. On the other side, tests validation is performed using the real data of a gas turbine installation. The obtained results allow the modeling of damage effects, hence the prediction of the performance of the examined gas turbine using the proposed model gives good results in terms of validity.

Opis:: This paper presents an algorithm to solve the problem of maintenance management of a two state parallel-series system based on preventive maintenance over the different system components. It is assumed that all components of the system exhibit Weibull hazard function and constant repair rate and that preventive maintenance would bring the system to the as good as new condition. The algorithm calculates the interval of time between preventive maintenance tasks for each component, minimizing the costs, and in such a way that the total downtime, in a certain period of time, does not exceed a predetermined value. It is presented an industrial case study where the algorithm is applied.

Opis:: The acceleration of the interconnectivity of networks of all sorts brings to the front scene the issue of networks performance measure. Recently, one observed an accelerating course towards quantitative probabilistic models to describe and assess networks’ Connectivity, as being the main vector of performance. However, modelling realistic networks is still far from being satisfactorily achieved using quantitative probabilistic models. On the other hand, little room had been lift to exploring the potential of topological models to develop qualitative and semi- quantitative models in order to assess networks connectivity. In this paper, we are exploring the potential of the topological modelling. The proposed model is based on describing the nodepair connectivity using binary scalars of different orders (tensors). Preliminary results of our explorations sounded very promoting.

Opis:: The article presents the selected elements affecting reliability and security of the telecommunications networks, which support transport services. In terms of telecommunications security, the selected methods and mechanisms, which allow providing the required level of reliability and availability of the telecommunications networks, in the fault-free operation and emergency modes, were discussed. In the article, attention was paid to the impact of a way of operation and maintenance on security of the telecommunications networks, and also on a correlation between the telecommunications system security and the security culture within the administrative and decision-making bodies. The telecommunications networks used in transport ensure the broadly understood safe provision of data transmission services. Telecommunications networks consist of hardware and software systems, and the data transmission security depends both on hardware and software. It is a set of methods and mechanisms, which provides a high level of the system’s reliability and availability by selecting the appropriate system structure.

Opis:: It can be assumed that at least some of the systems associated with the train traffic operation work in the “mission” mode, i.e. their availability and operational dependability are related to safe “move” of a train through the strictly defined section of the railway line, i.e. systems (devices) must operate reliably during “mission”. In the remaining time, operation of devices does not affect the safe train traffic operation. For example, it is possible to list crossing signalling systems or the GSM-R system, which along with the ETCS 2/3 system, constitutes the ERTMS system. In the article, the GSM-R system operation analysis, in terms of the above-mentioned factors, is presented. In general, it can be assumed that the GSM-R system devices (e.g. BTS base stations) should be efficient within the specific periods, i.e. during the train passing through the relevant section of the railway line. According to the authors’ calculations, it is stated that within longer periods, the selected GSM-R system devices (BTS stations) cannot be fully efficient, i.e. possible failures occurred and removed in these periods will not affect the safe train running.

Opis:: This paper presents a method which makes it possible to determine reliability characteristics of navigational positioning systems, relevant to an assumed value of permissible error in position fixing. The method allows to calculate : availability, reliability as well as operation continuity of position fixing system for an assumed, determined on the basis of formal requirements - both worldwide and national, position-fixing accuracy. The proposed mathematical model allows to satisfy, by any navigational positioning system, not only requirements as to position-fixing accuracy of a given navigational application ( for air, sea or land traffic ) but also the remaining characteristics associated with technical serviceability of a system. Essence of the method in question consists in the working-out of recorded empirical position-fixing data as well as the making use of multi-state Markov processes ( appropriate to a maximum error value permissible for various navigational applications ) as a result of which reliability characteristics based on real data would be determined. About usefulness of a given navigational positioning system for its possible application would decide a vector of variables (both dealing with position and reliability) which satisfies / or does not satisfy/ formal navigational requirements for a given application.

Opis:: There is presented the application of the integrated software tools to the reliability of the improved exemplary complex technical system prediction. There are considered three ways of the exemplary system reliability improvement, i.e. a hot single reservation of its components, a cold single reservation of its components and replacing its components by the improved components with reduced intensities of departure from the reliability state subsets. Automatically obtained, using the computer program CP 8.16, the evaluations of these ways improved exemplary system unconditional multistate reliability function, the expected values and the standard deviations of its unconditional lifetimes in the reliability state subsets and the mean values of its lifetimes in the particular reliability states are presented. Moreover, in the case when the improved system is repairable, its renewal and availability characteristics are estimated using the computer program CP 8.8 with appropriately given data.

Opis:: A convenient new tool for solving the problem of reliability and availability evaluation and optimization of complex technical systems is presented. Linking a semi-markov modeling of the system operation processes with a multi-state approach to system reliability and availability analysis is proposed to construct the joint general model of reliability and availability of complex technical systems in variable operation conditions. This joint model and a linear programming is proposed to complex technical systems reliability and availability evaluation and optimization respectively.

Opis:: This article presents a model of performance analysis for a truck fleet system in an openpit mine, considering special characteristics of haul fleets. In these systems, the expected availability of each piece of equipment and its operating capacity are the fundamental variables to construct a global fleet performance function. Our analytical algorithm considers heterogeneous fleets with known individual characteristics of transport capacity and failure and repair behavior. The results converge to a new indicator denominated “Equivalent Availability” (EA), which arises from the need to evaluate the capacity of the truck fleet to operate at a lower payload than required using different combinations of equipment to achieve an availability goal. EA is a key indicator to determine the productive capacity of a process, and for selecting equipment and their combinations to achieve production objectives. To exemplify the potentialities of the EA, a case study is implemented in a Chilean copper truck fleet mining process.

Opis:: This paper deals with the performance assessment of a textile industry, namely African Textile Manufactures (ATM) Ltd., in Chalawa, Kano industrial estate, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The entire system ATM has different sections of machines for processing various assignments. The machines in the sections have diverse capabilities. We assumed the following subsystems: spinning, weaving, pretreatment, printing, and steaming. The failure rates of subsystems are constant, and they follow exponential distribution, while the repairs follow two types of distributions, namely general distribution and Gumbel–Hougaard family copula distribution. The system analyzed by employing supplementary variable and the Laplace transform. Various measures of reliability have been computed for differential values of failures and two types of repair. The conclusions and some recommendations are addressed to improving the management of ATM.

Opis:: The paper is concerned with the analysis of under-keel clearance of ships based on real data from Szczecin Maritime Office. Using probabilistic method for UKC assessment give it possibility to create the distribution of under-keel clearance in several ship’s passages and in further step to determine the probability of ship’s grounding accident during the port approach. The results of using this type of model could be used in risk assessment of ships entering to the ports, therefore it is possible to used probabilistic model in Maritime Office employees’ everyday decision making practice. Research results present verification of probabilistic model, based on data from Vessel Traffic Service database and probability of touching the bottom during ships’ passages on Swinoujscie – Szczecin waterway. Moreover there are presented examples of these situations when entering to the port for analysed ships is not allowed according to the model.

Opis:: The paper proposes a short survey on a few issues currently addressed in telecommunication networks. We show on an example that the k-terminal reliability of recursive families of graphs can also be expressed in terms of products of matrices, leading to a simple asymptotic result. The uncertainty on equipment failure rates, which are not always easy to assess, and the possible occurrence of common-cause failures combine to possibly make the overall connection availability and failure frequency different from their expected values assuming independent failures. We finally discuss a source of impairment in long-haul optical networks, and other current issues where improvements would lead to a reduction of costs and to a better quality of service.
