    Opis:
    The polysemic nature of words in natural languages causes a lot of problems in the process of translating texts, especially in automatic translation. The first part of the following paper is devoted to a brief analysis of the above mentioned phenomenon. The analysis is based on different kinds of chosen monolingual dictionaries. Next, the author shows the way in which automatic translator, placed on Google website, translates simple sentences including polysemic words from French into Polish. In the subsequent section of the paper the most important principles of the description of words based on the object oriented approach proposed by W. Banyś are briefly presented. The object oriented approach makes it possible to eliminate the mistakes whose coming into being results from the polysemic nature of words and which are done by a machine in the process of translating texts. The author has chosen several polysemic words which are then described with the use of object oriented approach.

    The paper is a continuation of the author’s previous work regarding the legitimacy of metonymy classification for the needs of automatic translation. The author attempts to solve the problem presented in the paper entitled Classification of metonymy and its usefulness in automatic translation and proposes her classification of metonymic expressions, which could be a helpful tool in computer translation.

    The main topic of this paper deals with a general description of the notion of the class of objects, its historical draft and development in linguistic studies (generative grammar of N. Chomsky, semantic markers in the theory of J.J. Katz, J.A. Fodor, the predicate-argument structure of S. Karolak and the electronic dictionary of G.Gross). The author takes advantage of this concept in her analysis basing on object-oriented approach and the disambiguation by W. Banyś. This article demonstrates also that the disambiguation of the meaning of polysemic word pass by a correct choise of a class of objects which is the only solution to provide adequate equivalents in the target language and the condition of the effective and satisfying translation supported by computer.

    Opis:
    Polisemia przymiotników, jak i innych jednostek językowych stanowi wyzwanie dla tłumaczenia, szczególnie dla tłumaczenia automatycznego. Aby system był w stanie wykryć odpowiedni ekwiwalent w języku docelowym, niezbędny jest opis formalny, biorący pod uwagę wszystkie użycia danej jednostki. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje analizę francuskiego przymiotnika piquant i jego klasyfikację w oparciu klasy obiektowe. Wyszczególniając tyle znaczeń danego leksemu, ile typów klas obiektowych, do których tenże przymiotnik jest stosowany, możemy odnaleźć jego odpowiedni ekwiwalent w języku docelowym, a w konsekwencji podać jego poprawne tłumaczenie. 
    The purpose of this paper is to approach the problem of disambiguation of one type of polysemic units, that is adjectives in the context of translation. On the basis of the French adjective piquant analyzed as a case of study, following the object oriented method, the author demonstrates that this item could have a few equivalents in other languages. The selection of an appropriate linguistic equivalent depends on the context in which a particular unit appears. Such multiple possible interpretations pose a major problem for the description of the polysemic terms in lexicographical publications, as well as for automatic translation technology. To exactly pinpoint all the available senses and equivalents, the author makes use of the theory of classes of objects.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest próbie opisu wybranego kadru pojęciowego według metody zorientowanej obiektowo autorstwa Wiesława Banysia, stworzonej głównie na użytek automatycznego tłumaczenia tekstów. Autorka charakteryzuje na wstępie trzy główne narzędzia służące do opisu słów polisemicznych i pozwalające na ich odwieloznacznienie. W dalszej części dokonuje szczegółowego opisu jednego ze znaczeń wybranego słowa w języku francuskim według przedstawionych kryteriów. Opis w ten sposób sporządzony poddany jest w ostatniej części artykułu praktycznemu testowi sprawdzającemu jego skuteczność na podstawie przypadkowo wybranych, za pomocą wyszukiwarki Google, fragmentów tekstów zawierających opisywane słowo.
    The article is devoted to the description of the chosen frame based on the object oriented approach proposed by Wiesław Banyś, created mainly for the use in automatic translation. The author starts her discussion with the presentation of the characteristics of the three major rules concerning the description of polysemous words whose aim is to disambiguate them. Next, the detailed description of one of the senses of the chosen word in French is presented with accordance to the presented criteria. In the last part of the article, the author tests the description of the word’s sense in a practical way. The test is carried out by means of randomly chosen by the Google search machine fragments of texts including the word in question here.

    Artykuł porusza problem tłumaczenia automatycznego tekstów specjalistycznych, w których często pojawiają się rzeczowniki określające części ciała, lecz używane w zawężonym kontekście technicznym. Autorka koncentruje się na kilku najczęściej pojawiających się rzeczownikach i bada, w jaki sposób radzą sobie z ich prawidłowym tłumaczeniem na język polski wybrane translatory automatyczne dostępne online. Autorka przedstawia jednocześnie, w jaki sposób można rozwiązać tego typu problemy pojawiające się w tłumaczeniu automatycznym za pomocą metody zorientowanej obiektowo, w której zasadniczą rolę odgrywają klasy obiektowe ujęte w odpowiedni kadr pojęciowy.  
    The article concentrates on the problem of automatic translation of specialist texts which often include the nouns referring to parts of the body but used in the narrowed technical context. The author discusses a few most often used nouns and examines how a group of chosen automatic translators available on-line cope with their appropriate translation into Polish. Simultaneously, the author proposes how some problems which appear in the process of automatic translation can be solved with the help of the object oriented approach, where the main role is ascribed to object classes presented in the appropriate frame.
