- By means of TLC the levels of DON, NIV, DAS and T - 2 toxin were assessed in samples of selected cereal and rice food products i.e. wheat bran, wheat groats for infants and children, oats flakes, rice flakes and rice groats. The presence of mycotoxins was also investigated in several samples of rye and wheat grains. Trichothecenes were detected in 7 out of 100 samples tested (only in wheat bran and wheat grain). One wheat bran sample revealed concentrations of DON, NIV, DAS and T-2 toxin amounting to 50, 100, 50 and 100 µg/kg respectively. Another wheat bran sample showed 80 µg/kg ofDON and 120 µg/kg ofNIV. In the remaining three samples of the same product NIV was found to be 100-240 µg/kg. In two wheat samples tested separately the concentration of DON was 50 µg/kg and that of NIV was 100 µg/kg.
