    Opis:
    Due to the considerable fragmentation of farms in order to improve competitiveness of the Polish agricultural sector it is crucial to enhance cooperation of farmers within producer groups. The paper analyses changes in farm integration processes in view of the implementation of the agricultural policy. It presents growth dynamics for the number of agricultural producer groups and their spatial distribution in Poland. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the introduced financial support mechanisms on association of farmers in producer groups.
    Z powodu dużego rozdrobnienia gospodarstw rolnych dla poprawy konkurencyjności polskiego sektora rolnego bardzo istotna jest umiejętność kooperacji oraz współpracy rolników w ramach grup producenckich. W artykule przeprowadzono ocenę procesów integracyjnych gospodarstw rolnych, które zachodziły w warunkach wdrażania działań polityki rolnej. Przedstawiono dynamikę wzrostu liczby grup producentów rolnych oraz ich przestrzenne rozmieszczenie w Polsce. Celem badań było określenie wpływu wprowadzenia mechanizmów wsparcia fi nansowego na zrzeszanie się rolników w grupy producenckie.

    Purpose – The aim of the study was to assess the impact of the location of farms, the quality of natural conditions and fragmentation of agricultural holdings on the rate of landowners’ departure from agricultural activity, including cattle and pig farming. Research method – The study covered six provinces: Dolnośląskie, Małopolskie, Lubelskie, Mazowieckie, Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie. The considerations carried out were conducted in the system of districts for the years 2004-2016. Results – The largest decrease in the number of direct payment beneficiaries in the years 2004-2016 was recorded in the districts located on the outskirts of metropolitan areas. It was observed that in territorial units which obtained a higher evaluation of the quality of agricultural production space the regression in terms of the number of farms involved in animal production was significantly smaller, and the decrease in the number of single area payment beneficiaries was also smaller. In districts with relatively good natural conditions, faster departue from cattle and pig rearing was facilitated by the fragmentation of the area structure of farms. Originality / value / implications / recommendations – So far,the lack of detailed analyses of changes taking place in agriculture in Polish metropolitan areas has been noted, while this issue has been an important field of interest for researchers in the world for several decades. Therefore itmeans that work should be considered innovative. The results of the undertaken considerations constitute a significant contribution to explaining the reasons for the deagrarianisation of rural areas.

    The article analyzes the impact of plant production on the protection of biosphere resources. Agriculture significantly affects the quality of resources and natural environment assets and shapes their character. The quality of environmental resources determines the size and directions of agricultural production, and agriculture changes ecosystems, shapes the landscape, affects the quality and quantity of natural resources. European integration has influenced the relationship between agriculture and the environment in many directions. EU legislation and the formulation of development strategies and economic programs contribute to the greening of agricultural land use and the protection of biosphere resources. The assessment of these activities is definitely positive due to the creation of conditions for conflict-free coexistence of the protective function and the agricultural function.
    Artykuł zawiera analizę wpływu produkcji roślinnej na ochronę zasobów biosfery. Rolnictwo w istotny sposób wpływa na jakość zasobów i walorów środowiska przyrodniczego oraz kształtuje ich charakter. Jakość zasobów środowiskowych determinuje wielkość i kierunki produkcji rolniczej, a gospodarka rolna zmienia ekosystemy, kształtuje krajobraz, wpływa na jakość i ilość zasobów naturalnych. Integracja europejska wielokierunkowo wpłynęła na relację rolnictwo – środowisko. Legislacja unijna oraz konstruowanie strategii rozwojowych i programów gospodarczych przyczyniają się do ekologizacji użytkowania gruntów rolnych i ochrony zasobów biosfery. Ocena tych działań jest zdecydowanie pozytywna ze względu na tworzenie warunków do bezkonfliktowego współistnienia funkcji ochronnej i funkcji rolniczej.

    Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are handled differently in different countries. Whereas global acreage of GMOs jumped to 134 million hectares in 2009 [Cultivation... 2010], in many European countries opposition to GMOs is still strong, and their acreage is very small. This situation poses a difficult situation for many companies and their corporate social responsibility [CSR] strategies. Against this background, we conducted an online survey of 170 agribusiness firms in order to shed some light on how companies handle the conflict between, on the one hand, the growing use of GMOs worldwide and, on the other, the rejection of GMOs by European consumers. The empirical results show that many agribusiness firms perceive the use of GMOs as a highly relevant management issue that shapes their CSR strategies. All in all, agribusiness firms apply a wide spectrum of CSR activities; furthermore, CSR is considered a top management responsibility. GMOs are of aboveaverage relevance in firms that have been criticized for their attitudes towards and use of GMOs. The empirical results have interesting implications for the management of CSR and legitimacy in the agribusiness sector.

    The article considers the essence of innovative activity and presents results of the study of innovative processes, conducted by agricultural enterprises of Ukraine. To detect peculiarities of those processes, the researchers used results of examination of the innovative activity of agricultural enterprises in the Lviv region. The work confirms a rather high level of innovative activity of agricultural enterprises, compared to the enterprises of other branches of the economy of Ukraine. It secures positive transformations in the system of agrarian production of the country. The work demonstrates expansion of some kinds of innovations (in product, process, organization, and marketing) by agricultural enterprises of the Lviv region. The authors of the research have analyzed changes in the expenditures of agricultural enterprises, arguing the dependence of innovative activity on resource attraction. The article suggests perspective directions of some kinds of product innovations at agricultural enterprises.
    W artykule omówiono istotę działalności innowacyjnej i przedstawiono wyniki badań procesów innowacyjnych w przedsiębiorstwach rolniczych Ukrainy. Aby poznać specyfikę tych procesów, wykorzystano wyniki badania działalności innowacyjnej w przedsiębiorstwach rolniczych regionu lwowskiego. Stosunkowo wysoki poziom innowacyjności wymienionych przedsiębiorstw został ustalony w porównaniu z przedsiębiorstwami innych gałęzi ukraińskiej gospodarki, co zapewniło zauważalne pozytywne zmiany w systemie produkcji rolnej w kraju. Pokazano rozprzestrzenianie się niektórych rodzajów innowacji (produktowych, procesowych, organizacyjnych, marketingowych) w przedsiębiorstwach rolniczych badanego regionu. Przeanalizowane zostały zmiany kosztów przedsiębiorstw rolniczych, które odzwierciedlają zależność innowacji od intensywności przyciągania zasobów. Rozważono perspektywy niektórych rodzajów innowacji produktowych w przedsiębiorstwach rolnych.

    This paper aims to analyse, at a European level, the extent to which dispositions contained in Council Directive 91/676/CEE have been applied. The Directive aims to decrease water pollution directly or indirectly caused by nitrates from agricultural sources, and to prevent other similar pollution. The analysis considers the main pressure factors within the Member States, the state of their implementation at a European level and also puts forward suggestions which bear in mind the fact that Europe cannot give up its agricultural sector and that water is a limited resource which is necessary for human survival.
