    The purpose of the article is to establish the relationship between the market of hotel services and the development of the Lviv agglomeration. The study is based on questionnaire data, statistical analysis and logical reasoning. The author analysed 92 hotels operating in Lviv. Reports and studies of tourist flows and hospitality were conducted by the Tourism Department of Lviv City Council, and the Main Statistical Office in Lviv region. The main objectives of the study included evaluating the Lviv agglomeration in terms of attractiveness for living and doing business in comparison to other regions of Ukraine; identifying changes in the development of urban infrastructure of the Lviv agglomeration and their impact on the development of tourism and hospitality; characterising the hotel services market; identifying current trends in how the Lviv agglomeration is exploiting its current potential in the hospitality. As a result of the analysis, the author presents 1) modern features of the development of the hotel industry in Lviv; 2) an underlying inconsistency of the processes taking place in the Lviv metropolitan area, which is a complex system of relations in the urban space and, at the same time, a factor that determines the important role of hospitality establishments; 3) positive and negative aspects of the impact of the agglomeration on the hotel industry.

    This is an empirical study that is based on the results of questionnaire research on ecological behaviour and consumer choices shown by generation Z and their attitudes towards pro-ecological practices implemented as part of ecological policies in accommodation businesses. At the same time, an attempt was made to find out whether the implemented ideas could encourage this generation to choose places offering practices friendly to the environment and thus be a source of competitive advantage of such locations. The description of the results was preceded by an overview of past research on the issue and theoretical background on sustainable consumption. An analysis of the results showed that Generation Z in most cases tried to limit their negative impact on the environment as well as trying to apply ecological guidelines in practice. Generation Z support pro-ecological behaviour on a daily basis, however, this is mainly true when it comes to behaviour bringing financial or health-related benefits. The young approve of most pro-ecological practices in the accommodation industry but they differ in preferences and in exchange for their support, they expect financial rewards. In conclusion, this generation rates more highly accommodation facilities implementing pro-ecological practices and this translates into a greater willingness to stay at such places.

    The research issue is to describe the tourist accommodation used for specialised tourism, including its types, distribution and scale, in the northern part of the Eastern Carpathians in the former Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. The authors focused on the 1970s and 1980s which were the ‘golden age’ in the development of tourism in the Soviet Union. As a result of the analysis, 51 accommodation facilities were identified offering nearly 7,300 beds in the mid-1980s. It was the time when the development of that area reached its peak.

    Turystyka bardzo często odgrywa doniosłą rolę w procesach rozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego wielu miejscowości. Chociaż pierwotnym czynnikiem rozwoju turystyki jest występowanie naturalnych walorów turystycznych, niemożliwe jest osiągnięcie określonych korzyści dla obszaru, bez odpowiednio rozwiniętej bazy noclegowej. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie stanu bazy noclegowej w mieście Tarnowie. W roku 2007 zlokalizowanych było tu zaledwie osiem obiektów noclegowych: trzy hotele, dwa obiekty niesklasyfikowane, jeden pensjonat, jeden kemping oraz jeden inny obiekt hotelowy. Do dyspozycji gości było 567 miejsc noclegowych, ze wszystkich obiektów noclegowych zlokalizowanych na terenie miasta skorzystało 37 438 osób. Przeciętny turysta przebywał w Tarnowie średnio około 1,75 dnia. Niskie nasycenie miasta obiektami noclegowymi jest poważną przeszkodą w rozwoju turystyki na jego terenie. Aby to zmienić należy podjąć cały szereg działań, zmierzających do rozbudowy infrastruktury noclegowej.
    Tourism very often plays a significant role in the social and economic development processes in many towns and cities. Although the primary factor of tourism development is the presence of natural tourist qualities, it would not be possible to gain any benefits for such areas without the appropriately developed accommodation facilities. The dissertation presents the condition of accommodation facilities in Tarnów. In 2007, there were only eight accommodation facilities situated in the city: three hotels; two unclassified facilities; one boarding house; one campsite; and another hotel facility. There were 567 beds available, 37,438 guests used all the accommodation facilities situated within the city. An average tourist stayed in Tarnów for approximately 1.75 days. The low saturation of the city in accommodation facilities is a serious obstacle to tourism development in this area. To change this, numerous actions should be taken aimed at development of the accommodation infrastructure.

    Nowadays, tourism is a crucial sector of national economy, and for many countries and regions it is one of the goals of economic activity, at the same time being a means of social and economic revival. Therefore, in order to professionally present the tourist potential and offer, and to attract tourists, tourist products should be organized, promoted and introduced in a relevant way. It is necessary to bear in mind that tourism is a service sector, a sector in which different kinds of innovations are adapted very quickly. The aim of this article is to present the innovation in the accommodation industry and to show that historical objects in Poland are more and more often adapted into accommodation facilities, which undoubtedly influences the development of tourism in the region where these objects are used. I will draw the reader’s attention to the beneficial conditions and positive effects of running hotels in historical buildings, as well as the negative aspects and threats that stem from converting historical objects into hotels. I will show the outcome of surveys conducted on a group of 150 respondents that were to determine how many persons made use of such object sand that allowed getting acquainted with the respondents’ opinion about the conversion of historical objects into accommodation facilities. Finally, I will suggest a growth strategy for hotels which function in historical buildings.

    Background. Accommodation is the most important component and a basic measure of tourism development. Family tourism is a significant tourist sector and families travelling with children expect some special services and amenities in hotels. The aim of the paper is to assess the reception potential of the Stronie Śląskie municipality in terms of family tourism. Material and methods. The authors considered the size and structure of the accommodation facilities and examined their adaptation for families with children. The methods were: secondary source analysis, diagnostic poll, and direct observation. Results. The accommodation facilities in the Stronie Śląskie municipality turned out relatively well adapted to the needs of family tourism. They are usually small, family-owned businesses and do not offer a wide variety of programs and entertainment for children, although they observe new trends and try to follow them. Conclusions. The issue of tourist facilities adaptation for families is an important and rarely undertaken subject of research interest. The paper presents part of a wider research project referring to Lower Silesia as a family-friendly destination.

    Opis:
    Forests are an area of great significance, regarding both educational and recreational needs of society. The article undertakes an issue of tourism infrastructure in the state forests in Poland, considering the its quantitative and qualitative variability. The analysis took into account the evaluation of usefulness of the state forest areas for different forms of tourism and recreation. Source material originated from the web site run by the State Forests and from the forestry statistical yearbooks. Obtained data was statistically analysed using the principal component analysis, Ward’s cluster analysis and correlation coefficients. The most popular tourist and recreational facilities in the State Forests include forest parking places (1486), educational trails (968), accommodation facilities (522), tourist routes and facilities other than accommodation such as education and museum facilities (252), viewpoints and towers, camping sites, resting places and swimming pools (345). Tourist infrastructure of the State Forests is characterized by significant spatial disparities across the country. The greatest concentration of the objects is characteristic for zachodniopomorskie (1138), lubuskie (934), podlaskie (880), pomorskie (816) and warmiń− sko−mazurskie (777) voivodeships, while the lowest concentration can be found in świętokrzyskie (184), łódzkie (211) and opolskie (311) regions. There has been a noticeable, significant increase in the number of most of the elements of tourism and recreation infrastructure in the areas administrated by the State Forests. A characteristic feature of the tourism facilities in the State Forests is their strong concentration in the most wooded north−west and north−east voivodeships of Poland. Besides, there is high correlation between the number of management facilities and the number of public swimming areas.
