Opis:
A problem of parallel system reliability with dependent failures of components is presented in the paper. It is assumed that lifetimes of components are independent random variable having Weibull distribution. We take under consideration a parallel (in reliability meaning) system consisting of n independent at the beginning of work and identical components. We assume that a load of the working system affects on the reliability of its components and the load of the system is distributed on all working components. Therefore, a failure rate of each component is changeable during run of the system and depends on a number of working elements at this point in time. As a model of the system failures we construct a stochastic process which value at the moment t denotes the number of working components. Generally it is neither Markov nor semi-Markov process. To assess the reliability characteristics of the system we simulate this stochastic process using the Monte-Carlo method and we calculate values of nonparametric kernel density and reliability functions estimators.

Opis:
Parameters of the Weibull diameter distribution were estimated for Gmelina (Gmelina arborea) plantation in Nimbia Forest Reserve. Stratified random sampling was employed to select five plots of 20 × 20 m from each forest bit that serves as management unit, thereby having a total of 20 plots for the study. Stump diameter (Dst), diameter at breast height (Dbh), diameter at middle and top positions (Dm and Dt) of trees, and tree height for all the selected trees were measured. Average Dbh measured was 16.33 cm and the mean tree height 6.85 m. Pseudo coefficient of determination (Pseudo R2), residual mean square error, Anderson-Darling, and Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit statistics were considered as model selection criteria. Weibull cumulative density function (Weibull-CDF) was the best fit method for Gmelina compared with the Weibull probability density function based on the goodness-of-fit statistics generated. The diameter distribution models produced are considered only efficient for tree stands of seven years rotation age, while additional site factors like spacing, density and silvicultural treatments are required for better models, hence the need for establishing permanent sample plots (PSP) in order to get additional information from re-measurements of the plots.

In order to further enhance the application of additive manufacturing (AM) processes, such as the laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process, reliable material data are required. However, the resulting specimen properties are significantly influenced by the process parameters and may also vary depending on the material used. Therefore, the prediction of the final properties is difficult. In the following, the effect of residual stresses on the fatigue strength of 316L steel, a commonly used steel in AM, is investigated using a Weibull distribution. The underlying residual stress distributions as a result of the building process are approximated for two building directions using finite element (FE) models. These imply significantly different distributions of tensile and compressive residual stresses within the component. Apart from the residual stresses, the impact of the mean stress sensitivity is discussed as this also influences the predicted fatigue strength values.

Opis:
The present work deals with the exploration of a new model proposed for the reliability analysis of industrial production systems. This proposed model is mainly based on the tangent hyperbolic function, where the survival function is determined and used in the lifetime distribution modeling taking into account of estimation the parameters of the proposed function. On the other side, tests validation is performed using the real data of a gas turbine installation. The obtained results allow the modeling of damage effects, hence the prediction of the performance of the examined gas turbine using the proposed model gives good results in terms of validity.

Opis:
Managing the exploitation of technical equipment under conditions of uncertainty requires the use of probabilistic prediction models in the form of probability distributions of the lifetime of these objects. The parameters of these distributions are estimated with the use of statistical methods based on historical data about actual realizations of the lifetime of examined objects. However, when completely new solutions are introduced into service, such data are not available and the only possible method for the initial assessment of the expected lifetime of technical objects is expert methods. The aim of the study is to present a method for estimating the probability distribution of the lifetime for new technical facilities based on expert assessments of three parameters characterizing the expected lifetime of these objects. The method is based on a subjective Bayesian approach to the problem of randomness and integrated with models of classical probability theory. Due to its wide application in the field of maintenance of machinery and technical equipment, a Weibull model is proposed, and its possible practical applications are shown. A new method of expert elicitation of probabilities for any continuous random variable is developed. A general procedure for the application of this method is proposed and the individual steps of its implementation are discussed, as well as the mathematical models necessary for the estimation of the parameters of the probability distribution are presented. A practical example of the application of the developed method on specific numerical values is also presented.

The aim of this study was to describe some parametric estimation methods for the Weibull, gamma and Gompertz distributions and to identify among them estimators the most efficient in practical applications. Techniques which are considered as traditional methods, like the maximum likelihood (MLE) and the method of moments (MM) estimation but also some newer and less commonly used techniques like the Lmoment estimator (LME), least-square estimator (LSE), generalized spacing estimator (GSE) and percentile estimator (PE) were presented. The application of each method was demonstrated in a simulation study using data sets generated for different distribution parameters and sample sizes. Discussed estimators were compared in terms of their efficiency and bias measured by mean-square errors (MSE) based on the simulations results.

In this paper we propose an algorithm to calculate the optimum frequency to perform preventive maintenance in equipment that exhibits Weibull hazard function and constant repair rate in order to ensure its availability. Based on this algorithm we have developed another one to solve the problem of maintenance management of a series system based on preventive maintenance over the different system components. We assume that all components of the system still exhibit Weibull hazard function and constant repair rate and that preventive maintenance would bring the system to the as good as new condition. The algorithm calculates the interval of time between preventive maintenance actions for each component, minimizing the costs, and in such a way that the total downtime, in a certain period of time, does not exceed a predetermined value.

The design of a new mixed attribute control chart adapted to a truncated life test has been pre-sented. It was assumed that the lifetime of a product follows the Weibull distribution and the number of failures was observed using a truncated life test, where the test duration was specified as a fraction of the mean lifespan. The proposed control chart consists of two pairs of control limits based on a binomial distribution and one lower bound. The average run length of the chart was determined for various levels of shift constants and specified parameters. The efficiency of the chart is compared with an existing control chart in terms of the average run length. The application of the proposed chart is discussed with the aid of a simulation study.

This paper considers two competing methods intended to shorten lifetime tests. The first method, due to L.G. Johnson, is known in reliability engineering as "sudden death testing". Its competitor is a widely known time-terminated, right-censored test. Times of tests carried out according to these methods are set equal. Then, methods are compared in terms of variances and biases of lifetime parameter estimators. In addition, median, mode, skewness and kurtosis of estimator distributions are also calculated and compared. All data needed came from a large-scale Monte-Carlo numerical experiment.

The aim of the research was to identify the potential for the use of probability density functions (PDF) in modeling of near-surface wind speed. The approaches of Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOF) and Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) are used in combination with 2-parametric Weibull distribution. The downscaling model was built using a diagnosed relationship between sea level pressure (SLP) patterns over Europe and the Northern Atlantic and estimated monthly values of Weibull parameters at 9 stations along the Polish Baltic Coast. The obtained scale (A) and shape (k) parameters make it possible to describe temporal variations of wind fields and their theoretical probability values. This may have further application in the modeling of extreme wind speeds for seasonal forecasting, climate prediction or in historical reconstructions. The model evaluation was done separately for the calibration (1971-2000) and validation periods (2001-2010). The scale parameter was reconstructed reasonably, while there were some problematic issues with the shape parameter, especially in the validation period. The quality of the developed models is generally higher for the winter season, due to larger SLP gradients, whereas the results for the spring and summer seasons were less satisfactory. Despite this, the 99th percentile of theoretical wind speeds are in most cases satisfactory, due to the lesser importance of the shape parameter for typical distributions in the analyzed region.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to compare three different methods of analysis of results of lightning impulse breakdown voltage measurements of solid materials such as insulating pressboard. These three methods are the series method, the step method and the up-and-down method which are applied to withstand voltage estimation commonly in high voltage engineering. To obtain the data needed for the analysis a series of experimental studies was carried out. It included studies of mineral oil and natural ester impregnating 1 mm of thick cellulose-based pressboard. In order to show the distribution of breakdown voltage the Weibull distribution was additionally applied in data analysis. The results were also assessed from the viewpoint of dielectric liquid used for impregnation. The studies carried out showed that series and step methods give comparable results opposite to the up-and-down method. The latest overstates the results for mineral oil impregnated pressboard and understates for natural ester impregnated pressboard when juxtaposing them with the rest of the methods applied. In addition, there is lack of possibility to assess the withstand voltage for the up-and-down method directly from the vector of random variable. It is possible only as a result of a specially developed equation which always arouses doubt. From the methods applied it seems that the step method can be a great substitution for the series method as intuitive, fast in application and limiting the number of samples in solid insulation material testing.
