Opis:: The concept of inequality is interpreted in different ways and to the use of different measurement methods. The key is proper selection of tools that will truly look at the national inequalities and respond to the emerging dilemma: gender and height. It is also the basis for the revision of the Washington Consensus and to present a positive or negative correlation resulting from the Kuznets law. The paper presents a theoretical discussion of the methods of measuring income inequality, which, depending on your choice to decide on the scale of income disparities.

Opis:: It is demonstrated empirically in the world literature that irrespective of economic, cultural or historical factors income distributions follow universal patterns in different countries and exhibit an exponential (Boltzmann-Gibbs) distribution for low and middleclass incomes and power-law (Pareto) distribution for the highest incomes. In this article we present calculations based on a survey cyclically conducted by Council for Social Monitoring confirming these findings for income distributions in Poland. Obtained parameters of Pareto and Boltzmann-Gibbs distributions are statistically significant and indicate increasing income inequalities in Poland in the years 2003-2011 (which is somehow contradictory to the Eurostat data showing that the trend of increasing income inequalities in Poland reversed after 2005).

Opis:: In this article the issue of economic inequality, in particular subjective opinions of the public acceptance and aversion of economic inequalities have been presented. Based on own survey a statistically significant correlations between the assessments of inequality and the assessments of satisfaction with the achieved quality of life, salaries or having savings were analyzed. Is also presented - in terms of time - changes of the measure of income inequality in Poland.

Opis:: In this paper we study the role of social factors in development of international trade using a generalized gravity model. In existing studies of determinants of bilateral trade flows only economic factors were taken into account such as their economic size, factor endowments and technology levels as well as tariff and non-tariff barriers and distance between them. Our contribution to the literature lies in extending the previous studies to include also factors measuring the level of development and social inequalities as well as civil liberties. In particular, we study the role of the aggregate index of social development - HDI and its components as well as income inequality and civil liberties.
