Tourism is more dynamically developing part of economy and it plays more important role. Tourist requirements still rise up and capabilities of alleviate this requirements also change. It seems more and more obvious that tourism must be treat like a full rights part of economy. The concequences of that should be to management tourism, it develop with more professional style. The chance of that seems to be treated destination place in tourism like compact collection, linked up miscellaneous equipments and institutions, which from the point of view of it specificity can attract tourists and alleviate their requirements. Collection which its specificity are differing from surroundings. System approach to tourism reception place , give us a chance for better recognition the conditionality of functioning, development and effectiveness in it. Introductory try to describe possibilieties and ways of the effectiveness of local tourism system, constitute aim of this article.

The paper identifies basic issues related to the development of tourism in large cities and metropoles, based on literature studies. The author refers to the problem of defining of urban tourism and its scope. It was assumed that present-day urban tourism is large cities tourism. Particular attention was paid to the need for urban policy of tourism and tourism management according to principles of sustainable development as an essential condition for effectiveness of this policy.

Spa tourism is part of health tourism. Its basic purpose is to stay at the resort and use its facilities and methods of spa treatment in order maintain and improve health. Spa tourism is thus defined as traveling to spa resorts. The main purpose of such trips is to improve physical and mental well-being. Spas and the related services play an important role in ensuring socio-economic conditions while providing rest, recuperation, rehabilitation and prevention and therefore it is contributing to the health of citizens. On the other hand, they play an important role in the economy of cities and regions, stimulating economic development of the resorts, creating new jobs and activating local communities. Tourism which includes the trips to spa resorts for therapeutic purposes is one of the most important and fastest growing sectors of the world economy. The results of studies and research indicate that every year more and more Poles and foreign visitors use the spa resorts on an individual basis and on a commercial basis. Spa resorts in Europe constantly enrich and develop their offer with new services and products to reflect changing needs and preferences of customers. This trend should also be followed by Polish spa resorts aside the traditional methods of providing a wide range of spa and wellness services. One of the most important challenges facing the Polish health resort industry is to go beyond the services related only to spa and healing, and to focus on broadening their range of cultural and leisure-related services. Polish spa resorts moreover have a unique opportunity for development of more commercial and specialized services.

This paper presents the most popular indicators of the tourist function , and supplements them with modern synthetic metrics. The subject of the application of these indicators is to measure of the tourism function in 31 European countries and making their classification according to the values of measurement used. Unusual problem of engaging research area in the country and not in the local formulation allows for a much more clear showing weaknesses of individual metrics that recognize the problem described. A fragmented approach to the tourism function, prompts to use of synthetic measures which prove to be more useful in classifying particular areas.

Tourism economy has been evolving over the past decades and has become, in many countries, one of the fastest growing industries. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the relationship between the socioeconomic development of countries and the development of tourism industry. The paper presents selected economic, social, demographic, and political factors contributing to tourism development, such as: growth of wealth of societies, changing life expectancy, changing the amount of leisure time, degree of urbanization, development and use of means of transport, tourism and environmental policy and international integration. The analysis of the factors mentioned above showed that they are a strong incentive for the development of tourism industry and other areas that develop for tourism. Recent years have also shown that tourism industry is very sensitive to changes in economic conditions.

W pracy przedstawiono miejsce wydatków na turystykę w strukturze budżetów polskich gospodarstw domowych, ich wybory i preferencje z tym związane. W artykule wykorzystano istniejącą literaturę przedmiotu oraz dane statystyczne GUS z lat 2007-2013. Za pomocą danych z opracowań GUS określono wydatki gospodarstw domowych na turystykę zorganizowaną i noclegi na poziomie 1,5%-1,8% w badanym okresie, a także oszacowano łączne wydatki na turystykę zorganizowaną i indywidualną w strukturze budżetu przeciętnego polskiego gospodarstwa domowego na poziomie niespełna 4%.
The work is expected to show a place of tourism spending in the structure of Polish households’ budgets, their choices and preferences associated with it. The article uses the existing literature and GUS statistics of 2007-2013. Using the data from the GUS studies identified household expenditure on organized tourism and accommodation – 1,5%-1,8% in researched period, as well as the estimated total expenditure on organized tourism in the structure of the budget of the average Polish household, less than 4%.

Data on the number of employees, business entities and added gross value is analyzed against basic economic sectors. The analysis confirms the dominating role of the service sector in the functional structure of Łódź (with the clear predominance of metropolitan services). Łódź has been described as a city with dominant service function, together with a contribution from industry. An attempt of the empirical determination of the place of tourism in the functional structure of Łódź has been made on the basis of the numbers of employees and business entities. This attempt indicates the marginal role of tourism in the economy of the city. The lack of an appropriate disaggregation of data concerning gross values prevented us from using such values in the assessment of the place of tourism in the functional structure of the city. The number and amount of tourists’ expenses indirectly point at a certain significance of tourists for entrepreneurs dealing with them, but simultaneously, the marginal role of tourists in the whole economy of the city is observed. The application of classical indicators of tourism function has not succeeded in case of Łódź. The calculated values of such indicators suggest that the tourism function of Łódź is at the initial stage of development. This is in agreement with the observation reported by Ashworth and Page (2011) that tourism evidently needs diverse, flexible and accessible tourism products that are provided by a big city. However, it is not obvious that big cities support or have to support themselves through tourism. Therefore, the view on the important influence of tourism on the economy of big cities still requires confirmation through empirical research.
Na podstawie danych o liczbie pracujących, podmiotów gospodarczych i wartości dodanej brutto, Łódź na początku drugiej dekady XXI wieku określono jako miasto o dominującej funkcji usługowej z udziałem przemysłu. Podjęta próba empirycznego określenia miejsca turystyki w strukturze funkcjonalnej Łodzi na podstawie wyżej wymienionych danych, jak również w oparciu o tradycyjne wskaźniki funkcji turystycznej wskazuje na marginalną rolę turystyki w jej strukturze funkcjonalnej.
