Opis:
Green revolution increased the food production enormously to feed the geometrically growing population. In India, the availability and affordability of fossil fuel based chemical fertilizers at the farm level have been ensured only through imports and subsidies. Dependence on chemical fertilizers for future agricultural growth would mean further loss in soil quality. The possibilities of water contamination and unsustainable burden of the fiscal system. The Government of India has been trying to promote an improved practice involving use of biofertilizers along with fertilizers. These inputs have multiple beneficial impacts on the soil and can be relatively cheap and convenient for use. The agricultural chemicals like pesticide and weedicides were being used to save the standing crop from the attack of pests and to boost crop production. At the same time the excess use of chemical fertilizers degraded the soil properties. In this context, the farmers are expecting for the cheapest and eco-friendly alternative for getting higher yield. Biofertilizers is only the alternative way to get more production without harmful to environment. So the effect of different doses of biofertilizer (Rhizobium) on germination studies of Fenu-greek seed germination percentage, seedling growth, fresh weight and dry weight, chlorophyll, protein and soluble sugar content has been studied in the laboratory condition. There parameters increased to application when biofertilizer compared to control.

Opis:
Fenugreek has a long tradition of use as a medicine and also has been commonly used as food in many countries. This plant is well known, especially in Asia. In Europe, fenugreek seeds are regarded as a traditional herbal medicine consumed in case of loss of appetite and in confirmed skin inflammations. Trigonella foenum-graecum seeds contain wide spectrum of different biologically active constituents which affect the properties of preparations produced from this plant. Numerous preclinical studies confirm the use of fenugreek as a hypolipidemic and lowering blood glucose level drug. Unfortunately, there are not many clinical studies on fenugreek seeds in this area. Published studies often significantly differ in the amount and type of fenugreek seed preparation used. However, results of available scientific research are promising and suggest the possibility of using fenugreek seeds in metabolic syndrome therapy. Undoubtedly, further research is required to confirm such properties of Trigonella foenum-graecum.

Opis:
Introduction: Natural products represent a gold mine for scientists looking for compounds for the treatment of health problems and diseases with their different biological and pharmacological activities. However, recent research is focused on finding natural sources of antioxidants. Objective: The objective of current research was to determine the phytochemical profile of Algerian fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.), and Syrian cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) seeds in order to characterize their phenolic compounds and to determine their antioxidant activities. Methods: Total phenolic, flavonoids, condensed and hydrolysable tannins contents were quantified using Folin-Ciocalteu, aluminium chloride, vanillin and ferric chloride methods, respectively. Phenolic compounds were identified by HPLC method and antioxidant activity was measured using DPPH assay. Results: The higher amounts of total phenolic compounds, flavonoids, condensed and hydrolysable tannins were given by fenugreek. Results of HPLC analysis of our plants showed that eight phytochemical compounds were found in cumin extract, and seven molecules in fenugreek extract. Moreover, fenugreek possessed higher antioxidant activity. Conclusion: This study confirmed that our plants are a good source of phenolic contents and possess a high antioxidant activity.
