Opis:
The inhabitants of Szadek and its neighbourhood, gathering in the parish church to participate in the liturgy and listen to the Church teaching, shaped their religious and moral attitudes. The source materials providing the basis for establishing the religious and moral state of the parish of Szadek in the second half of the 1811‘ century include primarily the preserved records of five canonical inspections carried out in 1759-1760, 1762, 1779, 1788 and 1798. The Worship of God Was mainly performed during services and masses in three churches: the parish church under the invocation of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin and St. James the Apostle, renovated in 1788, With rich interior decorations (13 altars, many paintings and sculptures), St. Giles’ Church, also renovated in 1788 and used only occasionally, and the Holy Trinity Church at the local hospital. The religious and moral condition of the parishioners depended largely on the parish clergy - their personal attitude and pastoral care. In the first half of the 1811‘ century, the person responsible for pastoral Work Was the local parish-priest, supported by the missionary college priests (performing also other functions in the parish) and the hospital provost. The parishioners themselves took active part in the religious and moral formation of their community through activities of church brotherhoods, guilds and a parish school, as Well as in the care for the sick, elderly, poor and homeless (the hospital, fulfilling also the function of a poor-house).

Jan Julian Wiatr
Opis:
Father Jan Julian Wiatr (1907–1983) had already spent 17 years in pastoral work before he became the vicar in Szadek: first as curate and prefect in Lipno (1933–1934), then as priest among Polish emigrants in France (1934–1947) and as administrator of the parishes of Chojne and Dąbrowa Wielka (1947–1950). The next 17 years of pastoral work in Szadek are the most effective period of his life. His main concern was ministration to his parishioners and provision of religious educations to all children and young people, which was extremely difficult at that time after banning religion from schools by communist authorities. In the years 1956–1958 he was struggling to establish pastoral centres in Prusinowice and Suchoczasy. His efforts to improve the material fabric include installation of a heating system in the church (1955–1956), renovation work in the parish church (gradually from 1958) and tidying of St. Idzi’s cemetery. Feeling weak, he decided to give up in 1967 his work as parish priest in Szadek and after 2 years of fulfilling temporary functions he was appointed as parish priest in Jeziorsko, where he continued his ministration for 9 years (1969–1978). He then retired and went to live in Konin.

Opis:
The library of the parish church in Szadek - being the seat of Szadek Decanate and belonging in 1818 to Gniezno Archdiocese - was referred to, with listings of all the books that it contained, in parish documents (canonical Visitations of the parish) of 1762, 1779 and 1788. It was mainly used by local priests. After less than half a century of existence, it was destroyed, probably in a church fire in 1802. The registers list some 35 books, most likely in printed form. The themes of this collection of books point to it being the property of one of the parish priests, donated after his death to the parish. Nearly half of the books are works useful in preaching: collections of sermons and examples. The remaining publications, too, are intended to help priests in their pastoral work, religious instruction and preaching. Among Polish parish libraries of the 18th century, this collection falls within the category of small libraries (1-50 books).

Opis:
Father Edward Lidtke (1879–1951), before becoming a parish-priest in Szadek, had already spent 32 years in pastoral work, first as curate and prefect in Pabianice (1902–1907) and Kalisz (1907–1914), and them as parish-priest in Kłobia (1914–1920), Chełmce (1920–1924), Grodziesze Wielkie (1924–1926), Dembe (1926-1933), Warta (1933–1934). Five and a half years of his 14-year office in Szadek (1934–1948) fell on World War II and German occupation in Poland. In the pre-war period he strove to provide ministerial services to all parishioners and religions education to all children and young people. He also took great care of the parish church – had it painted inside and had new Stations of the Cross fitted in. He also looked after the financial matters of the parish. He remained in the parish during the war but had to sign the German nationality list. He could not perform his religions duties officially, only conspiratorial ministration was possible. After the war he undertook work on revival of religious life in the parish, but his wartime act made it difficult. In response to repeated suggestions from the bishop of Włocławek he resigned from this parish in 1948 and moved to Iwanowice, where he was the parish-priest until the end of his life.
