Opis:
The Anchitheriinae are a group of browsing horses with a widespread distribution throughout the Miocene. The subfamily includes the genera Hypohippus, Megahippus, Kalobatippus, Anchitherium, and Sinohippus. In the present paper we compare the remains of a giant anchitherine from the Spanish site of Nombrevilla−1, “Anchitherium” sampelayoi, with other species of Anchitherium from Europe, the North American genera Megahippus and Hypohippus, and the Asian genus Sinohippus. These comparisons allow us to suggest the inclusion of this large Spanish browsing horse in the Asian genus Sinohippus, rather than in Anchitherium. This proposal is made on the basis of some morphological traits from the upper cheek teeth of the Nombrevilla−1 fossils, and their large size, which clearly is outside the range of all other known European Anchitherium.

Opis:
Ceratosaurian theropods evolved in two bursts, first in the Middle and Late Jurassic and then in the Late Cretaceous, leaving a 20 Myr gap in the Early Cretaceous during which remains are rare. We describe here a new ceratosaurian theropod, Camarillasaurus cirugedae, from fluvial deposits of the Camarillas Formation (lower Barremian, Lower Cretaceous) of Camarillas, Teruel Province, NE Spain. The new theropod is represented by a collection of associated bones, including a tooth, a possible cervical vertebra, two sternal plates, the proximal part of a right tibia, a broken right scapulocoracoid, the incomplete sacrum, five caudal vertebrae, an isolated caudal neural arch, a chevron, an almost complete presacral rib and some fragments of vertebrae, ribs, and other elements. Camarillasaurus is differentiated from other theropods by the extreme depth of the tibia proximal end, and a deep longitudinal groove on the tibia. The new dinosaur is a ceratosaur, phylogenetically close to the base of the clade, and perhaps more derived than the Chinese basal ceratosaur Limusaurus. The new taxon is significant in the evolution of the ceratosaurian dinosaurs, being placed temporally between its more common Jurassic and mid-Upper Cretaceous relatives, and it is one of only a few from Laurasia.

Opis:
We describe a new species of Vasseuromys from the locality of Pico del Fraile 2 (PF2) in the Ebro Basin of northeastern Spain, which has yielded a fauna comprising several rodents and insectivores (Eumyarion cf. weinfurteri, Megacricetodon cf. primitivus, Democricetodon aff. hispanicus, Spermophilinus cf. besana, Microdyromys cf. legidensis, Galerix sp., and Lagomorpha indet.) indicative of Aragonian zones C or D. Vasseuromys cristinae sp. nov. differs from other Vasseuromysspecies in the constant presence of four extra ridges on the lower molars, one of them being connected to the posterolophid in the posterior valley, as well as three extra ridges on the upper molars, with none of them located outside the trigone. Morphological comparisons of this new taxon to other Vasseuromys species from the western Mediterranean area allow the reconstruction of their phylogenetic interrelationships during the Early and Middle Miocene of Europe, suggesting that V. cristinae sp. nov. is a descendant of V. autolensis.

Opis:
Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the level of physical activity in people with diabetes, depending on their characteristics. Methods: The sample consisted of 81 participants with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and belonging to a diabetes care association. First of all, the participants completed the short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Questionnaire online. Subsequently, they indicated their sex, age, type of diabetes, the presence of other complications and the years since diagnosis. In addition, data on consumption of tobacco and alcohol, glycosylated hemoglobin and fasting glucose were collected. For the analysis of the data, t-test for independent samples was used to compare means between categories, always with a level of significance of p <.05. Furthermore, effect size was calculated through Cohen’s d. Finally, the frequency and the percentage of the variables were calculated. Findings: The results showed in all the categories an average level of physical activity higher than the recommendations of physical activity for people with diabetes, being the level of physical activity predominantly moderate. Although women also complied with the recommendations for physical activity, their level of physical activity was significantly lower than the level of men Conclusions: It is recommended to expand the research on the barriers and motivations found by people with diabetes to practice physical activity, playing special attention to women with diabetes.

Opis:
Objectives: The objective of the present study was to perform an analysis of the barriers to the practice of physical activity and diet in people with diabetes mellitus residing in Spain. Methods: Ninety participants (40 men and 50 women) with type 1 diabetes mellitus (71) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (19) residing in Spain, and aged between 12 and 80 years (average age 41.12 ± 17.04) were part of the present study. The participants were asked about the sociodemographic variables of sex and age, as well as the type of diabetes, the presence of other associated pathologies and the years elapsed since their diagnosis. The participants were also asked about the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. Afterwards, the barriers or difficulties perceived in relation to physical exercise were assessed through the Barriers Self-Report for the Practice of Physical Activity (BSPPA) and the diet with the Questionnaire of Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (MEDAS-14). Then, the participants provided information regarding their last blood test with respect to the levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and fasting glucose. A descriptive analysis was carried out to present the characteristics of the sample as well as the barriers for the practice of physical activity presented by the sample studied. Finally, a comparison analysis of means was carried out using the Student's t test for independent samples, showing the significant differences between the barriers for the practice of physical activity according to the characteristics of the sample. Findings: The data showed how the Obligations / Lack of time factor represents the main barrier to the practice of physical activity in this population, especially in women, in those under 65 and in people with type 1 diabetes. Conclusions: In general, it is observed that all those categories that may indicate a less healthy lifestyle have a greater degree of agreement with the perceived barriers.

Opis:
Astragalus nitidiflorus is an endangered legume endemic to the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. This species develops symbiotic relationships with N-fixing bacteria. However, the problem of isolating its rhizobia has not been solved. Because poor N fixation in plants can be corrected by fertilization, the effect of N-P-K fertilizers on growth, leaf chlorophyll and mineral ions was studied. Plants of A. nitidiflorus were grown in 100%-substrate with different N-P-K fertilizer rates (mg l–1): 1-1-8 (S0), 69-29-35 (SL), 144-43-131 (SM) and 245-58-235 (SH). A treatment with substrate plus soil from the natural habitat and no fertilizers (T0) was included. The reference foliar contents of N, P and K were 42.5, 3.5 and 36.5 mg g–1, respectively. Although the species did not form root nodules when grown in substrate, T0 plants produced active nodules that allowed the plants to grow properly without fertilization. In the absence of nodules, both N fertilization (~144 mg l–1) and Fe fertilization (>12 mg l–1) are vital, as is, to a lesser extent, K fertilization (~75 mg l–1 K2O). The S0 and SL reduced leaf chlorophyll, while SM prevented its degradation.
