    W dobie intensywnych przemian demograficznych, jakie obserwuje się po wstąpieniu Polski do Unii Europejskiej, również małe miasta dotknęła modernizacja społeczeństwa. Nie są to zmiany tak intensywne jak w największych skupiskach ludności, gdzie zachowania populacji odpowiadają nierzadko drugiemu przejściu demograficznemu, jednakże doświadczają one transformacji. Poddane analizie wybrane małe miasta województwa pomorskiego udowadniają, że procesy ludnościowe w tychże jednostkach administracyjnych ulegają homogenizacji. Problemem jest przede wszystkim szybkie tempo starzenia się społeczeństwa, jak również emigracja mieszkańców w wieku wczesnoprodukcyjnym, będąca przede wszystkim efektem częściowego otwarcia zachodnich rynków pracy dla obywateli państw przyjętych w 2004 roku do Unii Europejskiej.
    In the era of intense demographic changes that can be observed after Poland’s accession to the European Union, the modernisation of society is also noticeable in small Polish cities. The transformation process is clearly not as intensive in small cities as it is in the metropolitan areas where the population behaviour mostly corresponds to the second demographic transition. The analysis of the small cities of the Pomeranian Voivodeship that were selected for the purpose of this study shows that the demographic process in these administrative units becomes standardised. The main problem in this case is the rapid population ageing, as well as the increasing migration of young people which is primarily a result of the partial opening of the Western labour markets for citizens of the countries that joined the European Union in 2004.

    The article reports on the initiatives developed to support entrepreneurs in Pomerania Voivodeship in Poland. It begins by outlining the directions of economic development of the region. In the next section the authors look in more detail at some key elements of the programme for the local entrepreneurs, describing policy evolution from supporting clusters to the EU concept of smart specialisation. Next, they look at the issue of creating a comprehensive regional system of promotion, business information and investment servicing established through a 2011 initiative Invest in Pomerania.     In January and February 1920 the Polish Army and civil administration annexed the greater part of the Vistula Pomerania to the Republic of Poland, which had been granted to it by the decision of the Paris Peace Conference of 28 June 1919. The centenary of the return of Pomerania to Poland, celebrated in 2020, becomes an impulse for the reflections on the events that took place during the first year that Pomerania belonged to Poland, and their significance for the integration of this region and its society into the Republic of Poland. With a review of historical research and analysis of published and archival sources as a starting point, the article provides a comprehensive account of the problems related to the incorporation of Pomerania into the Polish statehood in 1920, which affected the Polish, Kashubian and German populations in different ways. They were mainly associated with the frail Polish administration established from scratch, the lawlessness brought about by undisciplined military units stationed in Pomerania, as well as the policy of the state authorities aimed at the economic unification of this region with Poland. These phenomena were accompanied by changes in nationality structure and economic ownership, which resulted from the departure of the majority of German population to the Reich, and the war with Soviet Russia. The negative experiences during the first year of unification with Poland were largely unavoidable. However, their long-term consequences, the most serious of which was an increase in the sense of separate and distinctive regional identity among the inhabitants of Pomerania, had an inhibiting effect on the process of integrating Pomerania into the Republic of Poland during the interwar period.

    Jednym ze źródeł energii elektrycznej wykorzystywanej przez człowieka jest woda. Obecnie idea wykorzystania elektrowni wodnych jest coraz bardziej doceniana przez samorządy terytorialne i coraz częściej można je dostrzec w Polsce i województwie pomorskim. Idea zrównoważonego rozwoju oraz dyrektywy unijne wymogły budowę elektrowni wykorzystujących odnawialne źródła energii. W artykule nakreślono sytuację energetyczną województwa pomorskiego. W efekcie ustalono, że ponad połowa energii zużywanej w województwie jest produkowana poza jego obszarem. Biorąc pod uwagę straty przesyłowe, jest to sytuacja niekorzystna. W województwie coraz więcej pojawia się instalacji hydroenergetycznych, ale wciąż jest ich zbyt mało. Przeanalizowano uwarunkowania przyrodnicze i antropogeniczne ponad 300 potencjalnych lokalizacji hydroelektrowni. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz oszacowano potencjał hydroenergetyczny województwa i wskazano najlepsze lokalizacje dla elektrowni wodnych.
    One of the sources of electricity used by man is water. Currently the idea of hydroelectric power plants is increasingly appreciated by local governments. Sustainable development and EU directives have required the construction of green power plants. The article outlines the energy situation of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. As a result, it was found that more than half of the energy consumed in the region is produced outside its area. Considering the transmission losses, this is a disadvantage. Hydropower installations are increasingly appearing in the province, but they are still too few. The natural and anthropogenic conditions of more than 300 potential hydropower plants have been analyzed. Based on the conducted research, the hydroelectric potential of the voivodeship was estimated and the best locations for hydropower were identified.

    Artykuł opisuje działalność wojsk sowieckich w powiecie szubińskim w województwie pomorskim w 1945 r. oraz nastroje społeczne i stosunek mieszkańców do czerwonoarmistów. Wejście Armii Czerwonej na teren powiatu w styczniu 1945 r. oznaczało zakończenie okrutnej niemieckiej okupacji, zostało więc przyjęte przez miejscową ludność z radością. Od pierwszych chwil wojsko sowieckie było dominującą siłą w życiu polityczno-społeczno-gospodarczym regionu. Uczestniczyło w powoływaniu lokalnych władz, utrudniało prace nad odbudową, rozpoczęło systemową grabież majątku prywatnego i państwowego oraz deportacje do obozów pracy w ZSRS. Czerwonoarmiści dopuszczali się masowych przestępstw – od kradzieży i dewastacji, przez gwałty i pobicia, aż po zabójstwa. Ich działalność spowodowała ogólną niechęć i strach społeczeństwa przed sowieckim wojskiem. Powszechnie uważano, że Armia Czerwona okupuje Polskę, i oczekiwano opuszczenia przez nią naszego kraju.
    The article describes the activity of the Red Army in the district of Szubin (Pomeranian Voivodeship) in 1945, and social moods and attitudes of its inhabitants towards Soviet soldiers. The entry of the Red Army into the district in January 1945 marked the end of the cruel German occupation, so it was welcomed by the local population. From the very beginning, the Soviet Army was the dominant force in the political, social and economic life of the region. It took part in the appointment of local authorities, obstructed reconstruction work, started systematic looting of private and state property and deportations to labour camps in the USSR. Red Army soldiers committed mass crimes, from theft and devastation, through rape and beatings, to murder. Their activities caused the general public dislike and fear of the Soviet Army, the Red Army was believed to have occupied Poland and was expected to leave the country.

Podsumowując tę działalność, zaprezentowano stosunek mieszkańców powiatu świeckiego do Sowietów oraz emocje, jakie wywoływali.
    The article demonstrates the activities of the Red Army in the poviat (county) of Świecie (Pomorskie Voivodeship) in 1945, shedding light on the effects the Soviet army had on the socio-political and economic life of the region. The selected examples are given to present the nature of crimes committed by the Red Army and their impact on the life of the local community. To summarise this activity, the attitude of the inhabitants of the Świecie poviat towards the Soviets and the emotions they evoked are presented.

    After the war was over, the situation of the Greek Catholic Church was particularly difficult, because the state authorities refused to recognize its legal personality and equal rights along with other churches. There has been issued a permit for its functioning to a limited extent, in condition of being represented by the Roman Catholic Church. Erection of each new GreekCatholic temple was possible only after obtaining permission from the Denomination Office. Limitations in access to religious practices, lasting for years, caused the worshippers to move to the Roman Catholic Church or to abandon the faith.The situation of the Greek Catholic Church could improve only after political transformation in Poland in the year 1989. After many years of limited pastoral activity, the hierarch started intensive actions in favour of the children and the youth to build and deepen their religious and national identity. In the first 20 years of political transformation there have been numerous events organized for the children and the youth, just as “Sareptas”, “Little Sareptas”, Festival of Children’s Sacral Art in Biały Bór and Górowo Iławeckie. In many Pomeranian parishes there have emerged children and youth artistic groups, musical bands and choirs, presenting their repertoire at various reviews and festivals in diocesan level, as well as elsewhere in the country. The Greek Catholic Church made also efforts to bring forward Ukrainian language, tradition and rituals in ways attractive for the childrenand the youth, for example: by organising football competitions, Christmas and Easter card contests, thematic workshops, Ukrainian Easter egg school oricon painting classes.
    Sytuacja wyznaniowa mniejszości ukraińskiej w Polsce po zakończeniu działań drugiej wojny światowej była szczególnie trudna. Ówczesne władze państwowe w Polsce, podobnie jak w Związku Radzieckim, odmawiały Kościołowi greckokatolickiemu uznania jego osobowości prawnej i równouprawnienia z innymi Kościołami. Władza państwowa wydała jedynie zgodę na jego funkcjonowanie w ograniczonym zakresie i pod warunkiem reprezentowania go przez Kościół katolicki. Zadbano również o to, aby każdorazowa erekcja świątyni greckokatolickiej była możliwa jedynie po uprzednim uzyskaniu zezwolenia Urzędu do Spraw Wyznań.

    Public space is a special place especially in rural areas because it has a key social significance (integration place of residents) and spatial. It determines the quality of life, competitiveness and attractiveness of the region – tourism, settlement and investment. In the article, on the example of the competition “The Best Public Space of the Pomeranian Voivodeship”, the problem of shaping public space in rural areas were presented. The competition has been organized uninterruptedly since 2006. The aim of this competiton is public assets of the Pomeranian region promotion and to honor the municipalities in which the best undertakings related to its development were implemented. Projects presenting high quality solutions adapted to the nature of the surroundings are awarded. This study presents the awarded and won projects in the competition of rural public spaces in the Pomeranian region.
    W niniejszej pracy poruszono zagadnienie wiejskich przestrzeni publicznych. Podjęto próbę ich zdefiniowania, wykazania ich specyfiki i charakteru oraz roli, jaką odgrywają one w życiu mieszkańców wsi. Podjętą problematykę badawczą zaprezentowano na przykładzie konkursu „Najlepsza Przestrzeń Publiczna Województwa Pomorskiego”. Konkurs organizowany jest nieprzerwanie od 2006 roku, a jego celem jest promocja walorów ogólnodostępnych przestrzeni regionu pomorskiego oraz uhonorowanie gmin, na terenie których zrealizowane zostały najlepsze, zdaniem komisji konkursowej, przedsięwzięcia związane z jej kształtowaniem. Nagradzane są projekty prezentujące wysokiej jakości rozwiązania, dostosowane do charakteru otoczenia. W niniejszym opracowaniu analizie poddano nagrodzone (wyróżnione) w konkursie projekty zagospodarowania wiejskich przestrzeni publicznych regionu pomorskiego. Przestrzeń publiczna jest miejscem szczególnym, zwłaszcza na terenach wiejskich, gdyż posiada kluczowe znaczenie społeczne (miejsce integracji mieszkańców) i przestrzenne (dominanta funkcjonalna i kompozycyjna). Decyduje o jakości życia, konkurencyjności i atrakcyjności regionu – turystycznej, osiedleńczej i inwestycyjnej.

Solution for some of those threats might be a nuclear power plant that would be located on this voivodeship. At the moment there are two seaside locations considered for the first nuclear power plant in Poland. The final choice will decide what kind of technology would likely be used.
    Charakterystyka sektora elektroenergetycznego województwa pomorskiego sprawia, że region ten zmaga się z pewnymi zagrożeniami godzącymi w jego bezpieczeństwo energetyczne. Rozwiązaniem dla niektórych z przedstawionych zagrożeń może być elektrownia jądrowa znajdująca się w obszarze województwa. Korzyści byłyby zauważalne także dla gmin znajdujących się w pobliżu inwestycji, a także dla całego kraju, obniżając cenę za energię elektryczną. Na chwilę obecną brane pod uwagę są dwie lokalizacje nadmorskie dla pierwszej elektrowni jądrowej w Polsce. Ostateczny wybór jednej z nich będzie rzutował na zastosowaną technologię.
