    Considering Poland’s political relations with Ukraine in the years 1991-2005, it is impossible to ignore the earlier years, ie the period from 1989 which was the beginning of the systemic transformation in Poland, the effect of which was, among others, change of the main goals and priorities of Polish foreign policy. According to the agreement of the governments of both countries, Polish-Ukrainian relations have never been as good as today, but if we want to improve them further, it is worth considering the asymmetries that exist in these relations. Poland is currently in a much better situation than Ukraine, as evidenced by, inter alia, a stable democratic system, a much higher standard of living, a legal system adapted to European requirements, market reforms carried out, membership in NATO and the European Union, and Ukraine was in a much worse position at the time of regaining independence.

    The article is focused on the political and economic relations between Poland and Great Britain in last three decades. In first part of the article it was introduced the evolution of the most important political events in bilateral relations and convergent and divergent matters relates to the business of both states before and after the obtainment by the Poland of the membership in NATO and the European Union. Asymmetry among both countries in the political and economic aspect was also underlined. In second part of the article, the attention was concentrated on the analysis of mutual economic relations, in this the growth of trade turnover, services and investments. Consequences for Poland connected with the exit of Great Britain from European Union become also approximate. Four principal conclusions were introduced in the end of the article.

    The article is focused on the political relations between Poland and Germany in last three decades. In first part of the article it was introduced the evolution of the most important political events before the entry of Poland to the European Union. Underlined a major part of the German partner stayed in achieving the membership of Poland of this organization. In second part of the article it was described a new level relationship between them after the accession of Poland to the EU. Apart from many postivie aspects of the development of mutual relations quoted problems which influence for worsening them remaind. A few principal conclusions were introduced in the end of the article.

    There is a strong conviction in the political thought of the Law and Justice party (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość; hereafter PiS) that the fundamental motive behind the state’s activity in the international environment is the pursuit of the state’s own interests (the realistic theory of international relations), which is historically determined (historical policy). PiS politicians specified that the main goal of the Polish foreign policy is to ensure the state’s external security.. Two fundamental pillars of the Republic of Poland’s security were defined. First, the foundation of the state’s security would be close alliance with the United States, strengthened by Poland’s membership in the NATO. Secondly, a significant role in the neutralization of threats was seen in Poland’s membership in the European Union. The party led by Jarosław Kaczyński took an exceptionally realistic view of the policies pursued by Poland’s neighbours – Russia and Germany. The Russian Federation was seen as a state that sought to gain control over Central and Eastern European countries (clientelism). The intensification of the cooperation between Germany and Russia caused particular apprehension among PiS politicians.
    Analiza myśli politycznej Prawa i Sprawiedliwości – Artykuł jest opracowaniem z zakresu myśli politycznej, polityki zagranicznej i stosunków międzynarodowych. Przedmiotem badań były założenia strategiczne, przyjęte przez PiS w koncepcji polityki zagranicznej Polski w pierwszej dekadzie XXI wieku, realizowanej przez rząd Jarosława Kaczyńskiego w latach 2006–2007 oraz przez prezydenta Lecha Kaczyńskiego w okresie 2005–2010. Zajęto się trzema kwestiami. Po pierwsze – parydygmatem analizowania środowiska międzynarodowego, właściwym dla myśli politycznej PiS. Po drugie – przesłankami oceny Niemiec i Rosji, przy jednoczesnym wskazaniu na ich realistyczny charakter. Po trzecie – celami strategicznymi w polityce zagranicznej Polski wyznaczonymi przez PiS.

    Additional complicating factor in bilateral relations between national minority and the home state is different political status of Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine and different processes of transformation the consequence of which is differentiated state of political relations of Poland with its eastern neighbours. Lithuania, like Poland, is a member of EU, Ukraine, outside the structures of European integration, pursued a variable foreign policy, depending on the ruling options and the economic situation, and Belarus, because of internal policy which is unacceptable in the EU countries, is located on the political periphery of Europe.

    Political activity of Poles in LithuaniaA review of the latest book by Adam Bobryk has the aim to present the most valuable points of the publication. The reviewer focuses his attention on the most important aspects described in the seven chapters of the book. He also observes that this is the first monograph describing political activities of the Polish community in the Republic of Lithuania. According to the author of the review the book by Adam Bobryk, despite a few insignificant errors, is an important position to read, and for any researcher of Polish-Lithuanian relations it is even mandatory. Polityczna aktywność Polaków na LitwieTekst jest recenzją najnowszej książki Adama Bobryka, w której autor stara się pokrótce przedstawić najważniejsze informacje zawarte w omawianej publikacji. Przytoczone zostały tu główne wątki opisane w siedmiu rozdziałach książki A. Bobryka. Recenzent zauważa też, że jest to pierwsza monografia opisująca działalność polityczną społeczności polskiej w Republice Litewskiej. Zdaniem autora recenzji książka Adama Bobryka, mimo kilku nieistotnych błędów, jest pozycją ważną, a dla badacza relacji polsko-litewskich wręcz obowiązkową.

    The purpose of this article is to explain the processes taking place in the PolishRussian borderland in the context of Russian and European Union (EU) foreign policy. The basic premise is that bilateral relations between Russia on the one hand, and Poland and the EU on the other, should not be considered without taking into account the communities whose situation is affected by the quality of international relations. Therefore, the problems of these communities and the situation on the border must be juxtaposed with the policies whose directions are set in Moscow, Warsaw, Brussels and other capitals. The first research question is therefore: How do the foreign policies of Russia, Poland and the EU affect the lives of local communities in the Russian-Polish borderland? Due to the gradual opening of borders for movement, border studies have recently also included non-physical aspects of cross-border relations, including mental ones. Hence, a second question was formulated: what mental barriers exist in the Russian-Polish borderland and can they be at least partially overcome? The analysis of the mental and cultural aspects is based on the results of sociological studies. The article begins with remarks on the history of the Polish-Russian neighborhood up to 1991, preceded by an overview of recent border studies. It then shows the changes in the foreign policy of the stakeholders, followed by an analysis of the impact of political factors on the life of local border communities, taking into account both physical and non-physical aspects.
    Celem artykułu jest wyjaśnienie procesów zachodzących na polsko-rosyjskim pograniczu w kontekście polityki zagranicznej Rosji i Unii Europejskiej (UE). Podstawowym założeniem jest to, że stosunki dwustronne pomiędzy Rosją z jedne strony, a Polską i UE z drugiej, nie powinny być rozpatrywane bez uwzględnienia społeczności, na których sytuację wpływ wywiera jakość relacji międzynarodowych. Dlatego też problemy tych społeczności i sytuacja na pograniczu muszą być zestawiane z polityką, której kierunki ustalane są w Moskwie, Warszawie, Brukseli i innych stolicach. Pierwsze pytanie badawcze brzmi zatem: Jak polityka zagraniczna Rosji, Polski i UE wpływa na życie społeczności zamieszkujących pogranicze rosyjsko-polskie? Ze względu na stopniowe otwieranie granic dla ruchu, studia nad granicami obejmują ostatnio także niefizyczne aspekty stosunków transgranicznych, w tym granice mentalne. Stąd też sformułowane zostało drugie pytanie: Jakie bariery mentalne istnieją na pograniczu rosyjsko-polskim i czy można je przynajmniej częściowo pokonać? W badaniach wykorzystano zarówno dokumenty polityczne jak i opracowania akademickie. Analiza aspektów mentalno-kulturowych oparta jest na wynikach badań socjologicznych. Artykuł rozpoczyna się od uwag dotyczących historii polsko-rosyjskiego sąsiedztwa do 1991 roku, poprzedzonych przeglądem najnowszych badań nad granicami. W dalszej kolejności ukazane zostały zmiany w polityce zagranicznej zainteresowanych podmiotów, po czym następuje analiza wpływu czynników politycznych na życie przygranicznych społeczności lokalnych, z uwzględnieniem zarówno aspektów fizycznych jak i niefizycznych.
