    Opis:
    The article analyzes Polish borders, territory and geopolitical position during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Republics, including communist period. It argues that the most coherent territorially is Poland in the post-war borders. From a political-geographical perspective it assesses the contemporary western Polish border positively, and the eastern border negatively. It draws attention to the importance of the degree of integration of the international environment around Poland for its security and sovereignty, arguing that so far it has been better for Poland to have more neighbors than less.
    W artykule przeprowadzono analizę kształtu polskich granic i terytorium państwa dla okresów Rzeczpospolitej szlacheckej, II RP z okresu międzywojenego, Polski ludowej oraz współczesnej, a także ocenę położenia geopolitycznego. Wykazano, że terytorialnie największą spójnością cechuje się Polska w granicach powojennych. Z polityczno-geograficznego punktu widzenia autor obecną zachodnią granicę Polski ocenia pozytywnie, natomiast granicę wschodnią negatywnie. Zwraca uwagę na znaczenie stopnia konsolidacji międzynarodowego otoczenia Polski dla jej bezpieczeństwa i suwerenności, argumentując, że do tej pory sytuacja była korzystniejsza dla Polski, kiedy miała większą liczbę sąsiadów.

    This paper focuses on the issue of geopolitics in the pop culture interpretation as illustrated by the Polish pop music after the year 1989. Songs selected from various trends of the Polish popular music made the source material of the text. The primary study method involved the analysis of the lyrics discourse. The Polish geopolitical imaginations used to revolve around the basis axis of better West and worse East, symbolized mainly by Russia, but its image was transferred over entire Asia. Asia, including China, was scarcely present in the geopolitical imaginations contained in the pop music, which, at the same time, reflected the irrelevant interest of Polish elites in global problems. The discourses in the musical texts about China frequently adopted the West’s perspective, where Poland made part of as seen by our elites. The rhetoric strategy concerning China in popular music featured two essential views, which references Orientalism as specified by E. Said. It explains the frequent use of the postcolonial discourse by the Polish elites, also the music ones, which promoted the supremacy of the West over the rest of the world and the universal nature of the Western world values which were meant to be implemented into other civilizations and nations for their own sake. China was presented as a growing threat for the dominance of the West, the USA in the first place, as an alternative model of globalization and international deal putting offthe world by its cultural and geopolitical alienation, as well as indicating negative effects for Poland.

    Political demography links demographic findings with public policies aimed at achieving state goals. Current challenge of population aging causes threat to internal financial stability and well-being of the elderly. Aging also questions countries’ international position due to possibly reduced financial capability to maintain geopolitical power, and in extreme situation of lowest low fertility also due to continuous, unstoppable decline in the population size. In case of Poland, aging alone would result in almost doubling expenditure on pensions and healthcare. To respond to social and geopolitical challenges, the government should primarily focus on policies aimed at stimulating births. To foster pronatalist policies, factors affecting fertility may be grouped into five categories: economic, cultural, psychological, infrastructural and unplanned. All these factors influence childbearing behaviour simultaneously. Some of them constitute barriers to fertility (which need to be eliminated) and the others facilitate fertility (and they need to be strengthened). The barriers include financial constraints, individualistic values, financial insecurity, union instability, insufficient support network and lack of family-friendly employment. Identified facilitators in turn include pension system linking benefits with number of children (family pension system) and family-oriented aspirations and values with religion as a vital ingredient. Father commitment to family life impacts both as facilitator and by eliminating barriers.

The author comes to the conclusion that it was not an easy time for formation of the relations between the countries on the foundation of the principles of partnership and democratic. Considering different geostrategic interests of both countries and the heavy historical heritage it’s hard to talk about harmony.
