Opis:
Pleistocene glacigenic sediments around the Polish-Belarussian border are correlated. Tills of the Narevian Glaciation are present in both countries, are those in Poland possibly being order. Within the older South Polish Glaciations (Elsterian) there is no definite evidence of deposits of the Nidanian Glaciation in Belarus, though the younger of these glaciations (Sanian 1 and 2), seem to correspond to the Berezinian Glaciation sensu lato (Yaseldinian and Berezinian sensu stricto). During the older Middle Polish Glaciations (Saalian), comprising two glaciations (Liviecian, Krznanian), the Scandinavian ice sheets occupied Polish territory only. Till of the Odranian + Wartanian Glaciation in Poland is correlated with till of the Dnieperian Glaciation in Belarus. There are similar deposits of the Vistulian Glaciation (Poozerian) in both countries.

Opis:
This article is a cognitive-analytical text that looks at the so-called “migration crisis”, which turned out to be an attempt to destabilise the situation on the border between Belarus and Poland, Lithuania and Latvia in 2021. Following the introduction, which outlines the main goals and theses of the article, the author looks at the origins of the operation by the name of “sluice”, and the nature of the “migration crisis” on the Polish-Belarusian border in the period from August to December 2021. On the basis of the information available, retrieved mainly from the official website of the Border Guard, the author has attempted to describe the operation of the Belarusian authorities and border services in the process of bringing migrants to Belarus, and then “transferring” them over to Poland and other countries of the European Union. The text ends with a summary of the issues raised, and an attempt to outline the prospects of bringing the crisis to an end.

Opis:
The objective of this article is to conduct an analysis of the Belarusian propaganda narrative concerning Poland and the Polish-Belarusian border after the full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine on 24th February 2022. The study delves into the underlying factors influencing Belarusian propaganda and disinformation campaigns, the utilization of politics of memory as a tool to discredit Poland, the disinformation operations linked to artificially induced migration from the Middle East, and the involvement of Belarusian services in such activities. Additionally, it explores the actions aimed at discrediting the work of Polish uniformed formations on the border with Belarus. The research methodology employed entails the utilization of the desk research method and the comparative method, where we attempt to juxtapose the propaganda narrative of Belarus and Russia.

Celem omawianej publikacji (Marks & Karabanov, 2011) jest przestrzenna korelacja osadów czwartorzędowych w strefie przygranicznej Polski i Białorusi. Po stronie polskiej opracowanie, które wykonali głównie pracownicy Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Państwowego Instytutu Badawczego, obejmuje dużą część Wzgórz Sokólskich z „wyspami” morenowymi Sztabina, Jastrzębnej i Lipska oraz część Wysoczyzny Białostockiej i Równiny Augustowskiej. Przygotowano mapy geologiczne odkrytą i zakrytą w skali 1 : 250 000 i tekst objaśniający (74 str.) z pięcioma przekrojami geologicznymi. Uwagi dotyczą mapy zakrytej i zagadnień związanych ze zlodowaceniami Odry i Wisły. Sformułowano je, ponieważ mapy stanowią według Autorów pracy „nową jakość w geologicznych opracowaniach kartograficznych” i zwiastują nową generację map geologicznych w krajach Unii Europejskiej.

Opis:
Analysis of type localities of Pleistocene deposits from mid-eastern Poland (Kozi Grzbiet, Łuków, Biała Podlaska and Wilczyn) and southwestern Belarus (Smolarka and Postolovo) has provided a new view on the age, limits and correlation of the oldest Scandinavian glaciations in the area. Integration of palaeontological data with determination of the Brunhes/Matuyama boundary (780 ka) at Kozi Grzbiet and Smolarka suggests that the first glaciation (Narevian) preceded this boundary and had a slightly smaller extent in SW Belarus than hitherto considered. The second glaciation (Nidanian) occurred slightly above or at this palaeomagnetic boundary. In Poland it is the first South Polish Glaciation, a till of which can be traced as far as the Holy Cross Mts. In SW Belarus it is represented by a till to the south of Brest and Bereza, and connected there with the oldest glaciation.

Opis:
The paper offers an analysis of media assistance, as a specific form of foreign aid, that Poland offers to strengthen media development in Belarus and Ukraine. It shows if Poland tailors media assistance according to the local context and existing challenges for democratic changes of recipient countries’ media systems. The study builds on the literature concerning the media, development and democratization, in particular looking at media assistance as both democratic aid and public diplomacy. It reveals that Poland’s approaches to media development in Belarus and Ukraine do differ: Poland mainly provides autocratic Belarus with technical support for media established outside of that country, while clearly focusing on media capacity development in democratizing Ukraine. The findings show that Polish media assistance, however, is unlikely to boost media freedom in Belarus as is usually expected as an outcome of democratic aid and is under-financed in the case of Ukraine.

The article discusses strategies to overcome the fear of the COVID-19 pandemic and its threats in the sphere of the intangible heritage in Poland and Belarus. The strategies are presented as activities that make an adaptive use of the measures for safeguarding recommended by the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage 2003. Activities to maintain the viability of the intangible heritage have both similarities and differences in both countries. The difference is revealed in the institutional sphere of heritage safeguarding. The similarities have a negative dimension (resignation from actions, disruptions in the transmission of knowledge) and a positive dimension (a two-model strategy of transforming traditional practices, the use of the Internet and multimedia instruments).

Opis:
The Augustów Canal is one of the unique tourist attractions of a Poland–Belarus borderland known for its highly valuable natural, cultural-historical and tourism-related features. From the beginning of the 21st century, following total renovation as well as the opening of both water and road versions of the Rudawka–Lesnaya border crossing (in 2005 and 2017 respectively), it has been possible to observe a many-fold increase in tourist traffic within the Augustów Canal tourist space. The present article thus helps fill a research gap with an up-to-date description of this intensification and an analysis of its dynamics in terms of the countries of origin of visiting tourists, its seasonality and choice of transport, be it by water (by boat) or by road (by bicycle or on foot). This study continues investigations into the influence of the easing of the border regime in Belarus (introduction of a visa-free zone) on the volume of tourist traffic. Factors influencing cross-border traffic on the Augustów Canal have been studied at local, regional, national and international levels (multi-scalar). Fieldwork has also been organised, using the participant-observer method, and statistical data from the Polish Border Guard has been analysed. Results confirm that the greatest use made of the Rudawka–Lesnaya crossing is by tourists from Poland and Belarus, with smaller numbers from Lithuania, Russia and Germany. Poles are the nation most often availing themselves of opportunities to cross the border by water, while Belarusians show a preference for the road crossing.

Various species of Cyclotella, Stephanodiscus and Aulacoseira predominate at Gvoznitsa, while the diatom flora at Krępiec is more diverse and includes also Synedra, Asterionella, and Fragilaria taxa. Certain apparently extinct taxa of Cyclotella (C. comta var. lichvinensis (Jousé) Loginova, C. comta var. pliocaenica Krasske, C. temperiana (Loginova) Loginova, C. michiganiana var. parvula Loginova (C. parvula Loginova), are typical of the Mazovian and/or Alexandrian Interglacial.
