Opis:
Ophiocordyceps stylophora, a rare fungus species in Europe, was first recorded in one locality in Poland in 2011. This paper concerns 33 specimens found between 2011 and 2015 in 23 new localities in five areas. Amongst the described specimens, one was found on the Tenebrionidae beetle, and others grew on Elateridae larvae. For the first time, Tenebrionidae larvae have been observed as hosts of O. stylophora. Five new positions have been located in the southern part of Poland in the area of Oszast and Reberce nature reserves, Babia Góra and Roztocze national parks, and one has been found in the northern part of Poland, in the Elbląg Upland Landscape Park.

Opis:
As a result of low prices for sour cherries and low profitability of sour cherry production in Poland, the total area occupied by sour cherry orchards had decreased from about 40 thousand ha in 2000 to 32 thousand ha in 2010. The objective of this research was to evaluate the production co sts and profitability of sour cherry production and to identify the factors influencing profitability. The research was carried out on eight commercial fruit farms involved in sour cherry production, all located in the central part of Poland. To quantify the strength of the relationship between the profitability index and some other independent variables, a regression analysis was used. The price paid to the farmer and the profitability index turned out to be closely correlated, but the relationship between fruit yield and profitability was statistically insignificant.

Opis:
The rhynchonellid species, Pammegetherhynchus kowalaensis sp. n., occurs in the late Frasnian (Early to Late Palmatolepis rhenana, and possibly early Palmatolepis linguiformis conodont zones) marly-bituminous succession at Kowala (various outcrops) in the Gałęzice Syncline, south of Kielce in the Holy Cross Mountains, Poland. The only other known species of this genus is the type species, Pammegetherhynchus merodae Sartenaer, 1977, from the late Frasnian (somewhere in the Early and Late Palmatolepis rhenana Zones) of the French Fagne (dark shales of 'Matagne' aspect), and, probably, of the Eifel ('Büdesheimer Goniatitenschiefer'). P. kowalaensis sp. n. occurred in level-bottom pioneer assemblages, thriving in reef downslope, mostly poorly-oxygenated habitats of the Kellwasser interval. The species finally disappeared near the Frasnian-Famennian boundary. The genus Pammegetherhynchus seems to be particularly suited to stressed deep-water shelf environments in the European part of the Laurussian shelf, widely distributed in this crisis time.

Opis:
The placoderm sandstone (Emsian, Holy Cross Mountains) exposed in the abandoned quarry at Podłazie Hill was revisited and excavated during fieldwork conducted in 2011-2013. Bone-bearing breccias were identified for the first time at this site and subjected to taphonomic analysis. Vertebrate remains are dominated by heterostracans, while true placoderms compose less than 20% of the total vertebrate assemblage. The high degree of fragmentation of the bones and low degree of abrasion indicate that the remains were reworked and transported before final burial. This is consistent with the mixed character of the bone accumulations, which comprise both open-shelf forms (acanthodians, chondrichthyans) as well as those related to marginal-marine environments (placoderms and sarcopterygians). The bone-bearing succession has been subdivided into five depositional facies attributed to a coastal lagoon influenced by stormy, possibly tidal conditions. The occurrence of the invertebrate trace fossil Ilmenichnus sp. accompanied by Lockeia and Monomorphichnus supports this interpretation.

The generic attribution of the Plio-Pleistocene Polish moles ?Neurotrichus polonicus and ?Neurotrichus skoczeni has been questioned several times in the past. The fossil material belonging to ?Neurotrichus polonicus and ?Neurotrichus skoczeni is re-evaluated here and a new diagnosis is provided on the basis of qualitative considerations. In addition, a Geometric Morphometric analysis of the humerus has been performed including both extant and extinct Neurotrichini and Urotrichini taxa for comparison. Our results proved the unique morphology of the Polish material suggesting a distinct taxonomic state. The morphological variations evidenced by the humeral shape analysis agree with the observed qualitative differences and support a new generic allocation. The new genus Rzebikia gen. nov. is proposed for all the material previoulsly ascribed to ?Neurotrichus polonicus and ?Neurotrichus skoczeni.

Opis:
Devonian bryozoans have been investigated from two Givetian to Frasnian localities in the Holy Cross Mts (Central Poland), representing fossiliferous ramp slope facies of the Kostomłoty facies zone (north−western periphery of the Kielce carbonate platform). Thirteen genera belonging to four families and three orders have been identified. Bryozoans show close relation to previously described Givetian and Frasnian bryozoan faunas of France, but also some affinities to easterly regions (e.g., Kuzbass). The main immigration episodes are related to late Givetian and middle Frasnian deepening pulses. The replacement of locally rich and diverse Givetian carbonate bank faunas by overall impoverished Frasnian reef−complex associations largely corresponds to a major extinction event in the evolutionary history of Bryozoa. Five new species are described by I. Morozova and O. Weis: Eridotrypella arguta, Eridotrypella exserta, Eostenopora nimia, Primorella nitida, Primorella indigena.

Opis:
Phylogenetic analyses place Octaviania asterosperma in the Boletales, with Leccinum being the closest relative. Results of the structural investigation of O. asterosperma ectomycorrhiza with Fagus confirm this systematic position. In Europe the species is an ectomycorrhizal partner of broad-leaved trees, such as Carpinus, Corylus, Fagus, Quercus and Tilia. This paper aims at presenting the new data to the distribution of O. asterosperma in Central Europe. The description of the basidiocarps discovered in Poland in the recent years is also given, together with evidence for the parasitic relationship of Sepedonium laevigatum with O. asterosperma. We also present the information concerning all known localities of the species in Poland and its distribution map. Data on the ecology, distribution and status of O. asterosperma in Europe, and some structural aspects of basidiocarps and spores, are also summarized.

Tetraploa aristata Berkeley & Broome represents the anamorphic stage of a pleomorphic fungus with holomorph Tetraplosphaeria tetraploa (Scheuer) Kaz. Tanaka & K. Hiray (Lophiostoma tetraploa (Scheuer) Aptroot & K.D. Hyde). Until now this taxon has not been reported in Poland, where it is probably on the fringe of its distribution. Conidia of Tetraploa aristata were found during palynological analyses of modern surface samples and later on the decaying leaves of Phleum phleoides from xeric grasslands in Kraków and its vicinity. Since Tetraploa aristata was discovered during palynological analysis, this method might be considered to be a useful tool for investigations of contemporary microfungal mycobiota.

Opis:
The oil accumulations discovered in the Skole Synclinorium (eastern part of Polish Outer Carpathians) are located in zones of pinch-out of the Kliva Sandstone. An example is the Wańkowa Oil Field, which contains the largest oil reserves in the region. As the seismic identification of this type of hydrocarbon trap is ambiguous, a surface geochemical survey was carried out in the vicinity of the Wańkowa Oil Field along an experimental line perpendicular to the fold axes. A traverse across the zones with anomalous seismic records indicated the presence of undiscovered lithological traps. During the surface geochemical survey, 94 samples of soil gas were collected from a depth of 1.2 m and then investigated chromatographically. The spacing of sampling sites was 100 m, which was reduced to 50 m in the Wańkowa Oil Field area. The maximum concentrations of CH4 and total alkanes C2-C5 detected in samples were: 4250.0 ppm (0.425 vol. %) and 0.43 ppm, respectively. The first of these was detected at measurement point no. 86, located over the Wańkowa Field and the second at point no. 59, about 1,300 m south of the Wańkowa Field. The chemical analyses also detected maximum values of total alkenes C2-C4, H2 and CO2: 0.147 ppm, 0.042 vol. % and 4.4 vol. %, respectively. The results of the surface geochemical survey were integrated with observations on subsurface geological structures, which were interpreted on the basis of seismic data. This procedure permitted the documentation of anomalous concentrations of alkanes in the near-surface zone and contributed to an understanding of the tectonics of the hydrocarbon reservoirs in depth. The pattern of geochemical anomalies here is controlled by anticlines made up of Early Oligocene–Paleocene sediments and by overthrusts that displace these structures. The hydrocarbons migrated from condensate and/or oil accumulations located at various depths. The character of the anomalous zone discovered over the Wańkowa Oil Field is related to the effective sealing of hydrocarbon traps and/or the relatively low pressure caused by the production of oil for 130 years. However, this anomaly also may be the result of hydrocarbon migration from deeper, as yet undiscovered gas or gas-condensate accumulations, hosted in older reservoirs forming the hinge of the Ropienka-Łodyna Mine Anticline. The most pronounced anomalies were detected over the Wańkowa Village - Bandrów and Grabownica-Załuż anticlines. The active hydrocarbon dispersion in this zone may have resulted from the presence of overthrusts displacing the structures. Moreover, these anomalies may indicate the presence of shallow, maybe poorly sealed hydrocarbon accumulations.

Opis:
Poland is a country of considerable geomorphological diversity and includes a range of physical landscapes, from high mountains through uplands, plains, glaciated lowlands, large river valleys, to coasts. Within them, numerous localities may be considered as geomorphosites, illustrating key stages in the geomorphic evolution of the territory, classic landforms and the recent operation of geomorphic processes. The only database that aims to cover all geosites in Poland, including sites of geomorphological interest, is the Polish Central Register of Geosites (PCRG), managed by the state geological survey – the Polish Geological Institute (PIG). Among more than 2200 geosites recorded about 30% can be considered as geomorphosites. Their spatial coverage is very uneven. Most are located in the upland belt of southern Poland (40%) and in northern part of the country, within the extent of the late Pleistocene ice sheet (29%), while the Carpathians are under-represented. Thematically, geosites illustrating various examples of denudational relief dominate (45%). Significantly less common are glacifluvial (13%), glacial (11%) and fluvial (10%) landforms. Tors and residual hills are most common among geomorphosites (205 sites), followed by moraines (52), dunes (49), gullies and their systems (45) and river valleys (34). Thus, PCRG does not yet adequately reflect the diversity of the geomorphological heritage of Poland.
