Opis:: Within 1994-2000, sections of skin collected from eleven areas on the body of 650 wild boars and 85 pigs living in the northern Poland and in the Great Poland were examined. The D. phylloides infestation in the wild boar was observed to be very heavy (prevalence 32%, mean intensity 74 ind:). In contrast, the domestic pig turned out to be free of the parasite. The wild boar D. phylloides infestations are symptomless. The parasite is relatively rare in the domestic pig, although the high animal density typical of farm stocks should aid in its spreading. Compared to that in the wild boar, the pigs affected show associated skin symptoms. Where demodicosis did occur, most often the entire population was suffering of the condition. Most probably, the wild boar is the original host of D. phylloides. The hair follicle mile in question is very frequent in the wild boar, but produces symptomless infestations. The parasite occurs more seldom in the domestic pig, but - in contrast - the infestations are much more violent.

Opis:: Nd and Sr isotope data were used to characterize the sources of the Upper Triassic (Keuper) siliciclastic rocks of Silesia in southern Poland. This continental succession, consisting predominantly of fine-grained mud- stones and siltstones, yields a remarkably uniform Nd isotopic composition. Nd model ages T2DM vary from 1.56 to 1.69 Ga and εNd values are in the range from –8.9 to –11.2, documenting old crust contribution in the provenance. In contrast, the Sr isotopic composition (87Sr/86Sr) of the clastics exhibits a relatively large variation from 0.710 to 0.723. The isotopic compositions indicate that the southern part of the Germanic Basin in Silesia was supplied with clastic material from the Bohemian Massif. The axis of the drainage area must have crossed from SW to NE the Saxothuringian units of the East Sudetes and most probably also the area of the Tepla–Barrandian Unit. There is no indication of any sediment transport from the Moravo-Silesian Belt and the Fore-Sudetic Block. It seems, that the Palaeozoic rocks of the latter domain must have been buried completely during Late Triassic times.

Opis:: Konsumpcja mięsa wołowego w Polsce w 2009 roku waha się na poziomie około 3,8 kg. Coraz mniejsze zainteresowanie konsumpcją mięsa tego rodzaju wynika zarówno z jego niskiej jakości oferowanej w handlu detalicznym, jak również z wyższych cen w stosunku do cen pozostałych produktów mięsnych, pochodzących z drobiu czy wieprzowiny. Istotnym czynnikiem warunkującym poziom spożycia mięsa wołowego są również przyzwyczajenia, łatwość przygotowania, dostępność, a także świadomość konsumentów o bardziej pozytywnym wpływie na ich zdrowie tzw. mięsa białego. Polska ma duże potencjalne warunki, aby być w Unii Europejskiej liczącym się producentem mięsa wołowego. Konieczna jest jednak poprawa jego jakości, która może przyczynić się do zwiększenia zainteresowania konsumentów mięsem tego rodzaju.
Consumption of beef in Poland in 2009 ranges at around 3,8 kg/year. Less and less interest in this kind of meat consumption stems both from its low quality offered in the retail trade, as well as its higher prices when compared to the prices of other poultry or pork meat products. An important factor determining the level of beef consumption are also food habits, ease of preparation, its availability, as well as the consumer awareness of a more positive impact the white meat has on their health. Poland has great potential for becoming an important producer of beef in the European Union. However, it is necessary to improve its quality, which may contribute to an increased consumer interest in this kind of meat.
