Opis:: Trade unions in Poland have not built the stable and long–term relations with political parties as are observed in Western democracies. By analysing the historical and symbolic background of the transformation to a democratic civil society and free market economy, political preferences of working class, trade union membership rates, and public opinion polls, we argue that, in case of Poland, the initial links between political parties and trade unions weakened over time. Polish trade unions never had a chance to become a long–term intermediary between society and political parties, making the Polish case study a double exception from the traditional models.

Opis:: Introduced in December 1981 martial law is one of the most important events in the history of the newest Poland. This event initiated the return to monism in the Polish trade union movement. According to the decree on martial law issued by the Council of State, all trade unions were suspended. The purpose of this article is to present the impact of this tragic event in the history of Poland on the legal status of trade unions at that time and to show a rapid regress in the construction of a limited trade union pluralism that followed the events of The Coast in August 1980.
Wprowadzenie w grudniu 1981 r. stanu wojennego zapoczątkowało powrót do monizmu w polskim ruchu związkowym. Zgodnie z dekretem o stanie wojennym wydanym przez Radę Państwa wszystkie związki zawodowe zostały zawieszone. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie wpływu tego tragicznego w historii Polski zdarzenia na status prawny ówcześnie funkcjonujących związków zawodowych i przedstawienie gwałtownego regresu w budowie limitowanego pluralizmu związkowego, który nastąpił po wydarzeniach na Wybrzeżu w sierpniu 1980 r.

Opis:: Trade union organising has been one of the central strategies of trade union revitalisation in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The Anglo-American model of organising was transferred to the region in the 1990s. Poland was the first CEE country in which the organising approach was implemented by NSZZ 'Solidarność', then variety of trade unions followed. Organising has not brought about sustainable membership growth in the Polish trade unions even if it contributed to a number of qualitative changes, including the unionisation of multinational companies. Among the key challenges to further trade union membership growth, the paper points to a rapid increase of precarious employment in Poland. It is suggested that due to peculiarities of labour market and legal contexts that constrain union organising of precarious workers, trade unions need to seek for possible coalitions with the emergent employee associations, community groups and social movements. As the environment transformed, trade unions need to re-evaluate their strategic goals, organisational structures and mode of operation, which have remained unchanged over the years, and are barely adequate to the current demands, challenges and opportunities.

Opis:: W opracowaniu podjęto próbę zbadania kluczowych tendencji w polityce handlowej Unii Europejskiej wobec krajów grupy Afryki, Karaibów i Pacyfiku (AKP) oraz wskazania przeobrażeń w strukturze towarowej wymiany rolno-żywnościowej Unii Europejskiej (w tym Polski) z tymi krajami. Analiza uzyskanych wyników wykazała, iż dla krajów AKP rynek europejski jest przede wszystkim źródłem zaopatrzenia dla przemysłu spożywczego. Z kolei import UE i Polski zdominowały te same grupy produktów (kawa, herbata, kakao), potwierdzając jednocześnie specjalizację handlową państw AKP. Zarówno Unia Europejska, jak i Polska, pozostają importerami netto artykułów rolnospożywczych pochodzących z regionu AKP.
The aim of the paper is to examine key trends in the European Union’s trade policy towards the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of states (ACP), as well as to identify main changes in the commodity structure of the European (and Polish) agri-food trade. The results showed that for the ACP countries, the European market is perceived as a source of food industry while the EU (including Poland) imports from ACP region coffee, tea and cocoa. This confirms a certain specialization of production and trade in ACP countries. Both the European Union and Poland, are net importers of agri- food products from the ACP region.

Opis:: W niniejszym artykule podjęta zostaje analiza strategii związków zawodowych w odniesieniu do problemów segmentacji rynku pracy w Polsce, w szczególności ekspansji prekaryjnych (niestandardowych i niskopłatnych) form zatrudnienia. Podstawą empiryczną tekstu są wyniki badań prowadzonych w czterech branżach (hutnictwie, służbie zdrowia, budownictwie i handlu) w 2015–2016 roku, w oparciu o analizę wywiadów eksperckich z przedstawicielami związków zawodowych, pracodawców i administracji państwowej. Analiza zebranego materiału pozwala odpowiedzieć na pytanie o wpływ zróżnicowanej siły przetargowej (strukturalnej i stowarzyszeniowej) pracowników w badanych branżach na formy i skuteczność strategii związków zawodowych wobec problemów prekaryzacji zatrudnienia. Twierdzimy, że pomimo przesunięcia działań związkowych z poziomu rokowań zbiorowych na poziom dyskursywny i polityczny, skuteczne przeciwdziałanie segmentacji rynku pracy wymaga wzmocnienia siły strukturalnej pracowników, co tylko w pewnym stopniu zależne jest od strategii związków zawodowych.
This article explores trade union strategies regarding the problems of the labour market segmentation in Poland, in particular the expansion of precarious (nonstandard and low-paid) forms of employment. The empirical basis of the article are the results of research in four sectors (steelworks, health care, construction and the retail sector), carried out in 2015–16, based on expert interviews with the representatives of trade unions, employers and state administration. Data analysis makes it possible to answer the question about the impact of diversified bargaining power (the structural and associational power) in the sectors studied on the forms and efficiency of trade union strategies regarding the precarisation of employment. We claim that despite the shift of trade union activities from the level of collective bargaining to the political and discursive levels, the efficient ways of counteracting the labour market segmentation would require to strengthen structural power of workers which is only partially dependent of trade union strategies.

Opis:: The aim of the article is to present and characterise the essence of four fundamental pil-lars (the freedom of association, the self-governance, the independence and the equality) of trade union freedoms in the Polish legal system. The author presents such aspects as the classification of trade union freedoms or the characterisation of chosen specific union pillars. The article is based on the review of the relevant national legislation (in-cluding the Polish Constitution, international agreements and the Act on Trade of 23th May 1991), doctrine and judicature.
