In times of increasing significance for national policies which support international economic cooperation, a special role is played by state trade support institutions (TSIs). This paper investigates whether such TSIs can be said to operate effectively, through an analysis of one essential element of the support provided to domestic entrepreneurs, namely export recommendations. The recommendations provided by Polish TSIs in respect of Turkey is employed as a case study. The theory of comparative advantage along with a neo-institutional perspective provide the conceptual framing for this analysis, in conjunction with both desk research, document analysis, and selected economic indices. Factors such as trade potential, comparative advantages, and the competitiveness of selected product groups exported by Polish firms to Turkey were also taken into account. The findings largely indicate that TSI export recommendations are adequate, and the majority of the recommended industries demonstrated considerable sales opportunities. Nevertheless, some discrepancies were also noted, which should be an issue for further investigation by both researchers and TSI analysts. Furthermore, the case study in this paper demonstrates that the choices within economic promotion policy – despite its partition between variously-oriented TSIs - were made on the basis of economic rationality.

This paper addresses the question of distribution of support from the EU budget and the national budget to agricultural holders in Mazovia region in comparison with Poland as a whole. In the first main section, the characteristics of the agricultural sector in the region, using main sectoral indicators, is presented. The second section illustrates the agricultural and rural support under the Rural Development Program and the Sectoral Operational Program “Restructuring and modernization of agriculture and rural development” provided to Mazovian beneficiaries with reference to this support at whole country level. Empirical analyses are based on Eurostat statistics as well as on data obtained from the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Results of the study show that the Mazovian province, which is a region that can be placed in front of agricultural development, was awarded over the period 2004-2007 a relatively high level of support and ranked first or second among all 16 provinces according to selected measures.

Innovation plays a critical role in ensuring sustainable economic development. It is a fundamental element in the success of companies, corporations, and industries, but the process of innovation is an expensive endeavor that requires significant financial re-sources. The objective is to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different financing tools, including government grants, bank loans, self-financing, crowd-funding, seed financing, and venture capital by analyzing case studies and results of research surveys. The first part of this research will explore the concept, types, and classification of innovation. The empirical part is based on a discussion of survey results obtained from 59 SMEs, including the factors that influence SMEs' decisions to seek financing for innovation. The research method used in this study is qualitative research in terms of applied and descriptive approaches; various resources were used including library materials, research papers, survey data, and questionnaires with entrepreneurs and business owners. The objective was to analyze obstacles and opportunities as well as the most suitable financing method required by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to support their innovation. The results show that the choice of the financing method depends on several factors, including the type and stage of innovation, the scope of the company, the particular industry, and the risk involved for both the innovator and the investor.

This paper presents in its first part the basis of interventionism in agriculture. It presents currently existing system of support for organic orchards in Poland and EU and proposed changes. In the empirical part, the paper presents the economical situation of Polish fruit-growing farms in respect to other farms according to FADN data (Farm Accountancy Data Network). It has been ascertained that agri-environmental payments answer for 32% of those farms’ income, which is an amount approximate to other farm types. A proposition of change in organic orchard farms’ subsidies has no basis in regard to economical situation of those farms and can cause unfavorable fallout for them and their surroundings. Because of many flaws in the system of these subsidies, it is needful to intensify the control by Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture (ARMA)
W artykule przedstawiono w części pierwszej podstawy interwencjonizmu w rolnictwie. Zaprezentowano obecnie istniejący system wsparcia ekologicznej produkcji sadowniczej w Polsce i UE oraz proponowane zmiany. W części empirycznej na podstawie danych FADN (Farm Accountancy Data Network) pokazano sytuację ekonomiczną sadowniczych gospodarstw ekologicznych na tle pozostałych gospodarstw. Stwierdzono, iż dopłaty rolnośrodowiskowe odpowiadają za 32% dochodu tych gospodarstw, co jest wartością zbliżoną do innych typów. Propozycje zmian w systemie dopłat dla sadownictwa ekologicznego nie mają podstaw w sytuacji ekonomicznej tych gospodarstw, a mogą spowodować niekorzystne dla nich i ich otoczenia skutki. Z racji istnienia wielu nieprawidłowości w systemie tych dopłat niezbędne jest zintensyfikowanie kontroli przez ARiMR.

This paper focuses on attitudes of Poles toward military interventions exercised by Polish troops in foreign countries. Specifically, we study the impact of age, generations, political biographies, and political orientations on mass support for military actions that have been framed in public debate and in the media as attempts to curtail or eliminate terrorism. Using data from the Polish Panel Study, POLPAN 2003–2008, we demonstrate that support for military actions depends on views on the political nature of terrorism, life experiences related to age/period, generational effects as defined by demographic cohorts and historical events, political biographies, and stances toward democracy and a market economy. These results are robust for 2003 and 2008. Although there is a significant decline of support for military actions through time, opinions expressed in 2003 strongly influence those expressed five years later. The longitudinal nature of our data allows us to show the effects of interactions of time-related variables on support for military actions in the most recent period, 2008. Effects of age on support for military action in 2008 depend on individuals’ stances on this issue in 2003, after the invasion of Iraq. Among those who were strong supporters of military action in the past, current support does not diminish with age. Among those who did not support military action in the past, however, current support quickly decreases with age.

The paper focuses on the analysis of recent family policies on selected programs and actions in Poland and Spain. The analysis was made on the basis of a comparison of three spheres of supporting the families in both countries: financial support, institutional support and conditions of parental leaves. The main data sources came from the OECD and Ministries in Poland and Spain. Results show that there are differences between Poland and Spain in terms of funds assigned to the support of families and children, in terms of the length of maternity and paternity leaves, the level and types of fi nancial support, and also the types of institutional support.

Poland as well as many European countries is facing demographic crisis. Aging society, changing model of the family and reduced birth rate are serious issues that demand a reaction. Above matters are beyond doubt. However, there is a doubt answering the question what do we do in order to prevent those trends and if we are effective. This paper analyses demographic threats Poland is facing, factors which have impact on birthrate, as well as pro-family and pro-social policy of state. In pursuit of alternatives, solutions from USA shall be presented. Differences in redistribution level, and relation to it will be a subject of analysis, as they should become the source of reflection and inspiration in order to find solutions for problems in Poland and Europe.

The article presents the clustering of Polish citizens based on the empirical dimension of support for European integration. The structure of the work is based on three key elements constituting the basis of the presented text. The first refers to the development of a scale to measure the extent of support for the integration of Poland with the EU. The second element covers an area of support scale modelling. After the substantial and statistical analysis of the adequacy of the probability distribution for the support scale, it was decided that a model in which the scale underwent mixing non-standard Beta distributions would be adopted. Applying the Maximal Likelihood Method (ML), the components for its fitted probability densities and estimators of prior (or mixing) probabilities were indicated. The procedure allowed us to define the clusters of which the population of voters was composed. The paper’s final section presents many practical and theoretical conclusions for political parties and scientists interested in the discussed area. The novelty of applying the ML method goes hand in hand with the findings that previously appeared in political science literature, although under different economic and geopolitical conditions.

W artykule przedstawiono rozwój rozwiązań konstrukcyjnych sekcji obudowy zmechanizowanej w Polsce. Szczegółowo omówiono ewolucję konstrukcji podstawowych zespołów sekcji obudowy zmechanizowanej przeznaczonych do ścian zawałowych, stosowanych materiałów konstrukcyjnych oraz systemów sterowania. Na tym tle przedstawiono dorobek KOMAG-u w zakresie postaci konstrukcyjnych sekcji obudowy zmechanizowanej.
Progress in designing the powered roof support in Poland is presented in the paper. Evolution in designs of roof supports for caving walls, in used materials and systems for control of powered roof supports are discussed in more details. KOMAG's achievements as regards designing the powered roof support are given against this background.

The present article has a double purpose. Firstly, the author examines the evolution of public support levels for both the Polish EU membership, and euro introduction in Poland; correlations between them are briefly presented. The data is presented chronologically for both datasets, and in the case of EU membership support included the results of own research on relationship between partisanship and EU accession support. The author analyses the literature on the subject, indicating the factors thought to influence public consent in both cases, discussing in particular the impact of personal choice of supporting a given political party (and political stance) on the individual’s view on EU membership and euro introduction. Furthermore, a more detailed analysis of other factors influencing the acceptance of euro introduction in new countries is shown – once again based on recent literature, with particular attention paid to recent studies carried out in Poland, drawing attention to differences with the overall European studies – grouped by type, and supported by results of numerous polls conducted in Poland over the last several years. In the second part, the author presents a diagnosis of the drastically falling support for euro introduction in Poland – compared with steady acceptance for Polish EU membership – in correlation with the importance of correct information campaign as regards the euro. Here, the public›s own assessment of their level of knowledge about the euro currency is juxtaposed with the results of polls on euro support levels in Poland in historical approach, indicating the clear correlation between the two elements. Finally, a short analysis of the information campaign requirements and the current state of the same in Poland is presented.

Emerging technologies enhancing implementation of more advanced software were analyzed and applied to upgrade the standalone DSS Ziarbit, developed by the authors in past years, to a form of a Web-based decision support system embedded in Semantic Web frameworks. The system was developed to support design and management of cereal grain drying and storage processes. New technologies were used for problem domain analysis, UML diagramming, knowledge representation and Semantic Web implementation, and recent Microsoft programming environments were applied (.NET 4.5, ASP .NET 4.5, C++/CLI and C# available in Microsoft Visual Studio 2012, and Windows Phone SDK 8). In order to ensure interoperability, a concept of Internet-based Knowledge Center (IKC) was introduced and the new system was developed within the IKC framework.

Przedmiotem tego tekstu jest zjawisko wzajemnej pomocy i wsparcia społecznego w grupie pacjentek z rakiem piersi, ukazane na tle przemian zachodzących w całym ruchu Amazonek. Organizacje społeczne, skupiające kobiety po leczeniu raka piersi, funkcjonują w Polsce od ponad 30 lat. Przez ten okres dowiodły swojej przydatności i ważności. Od początku swojego istnienia kluby Amazonek zorientowane były na udzielanie szeroko rozumianego wsparcia pacjentkom na oddziałach onkologicznych oraz swoim członkiniom – do dzisiaj dobrze się z tego zadania wywiązują. Istotne jest, że poszczególne kluby kobiet po leczeniu raka nie stanowią osobnych bytów społecznych, ale współtworzą federację, która od początku lat 90. XX w. kieruje procesem racjonalizacji ich działań. W tekście ogólnie ukazano, jak ten proces przebiegał i w jakiej fazie znajduje się obecnie ruch Amazonek. Co ciekawe, stagnacja, która ogarnęła cały ruch, wydaje się nie oddziaływać lub oddziałuje jedynie w niewielkim stopniu na funkcjonowanie poszczególnych stowarzyszeń, realizujących swój statutowy cel, to jest wspieranie chorujących kobiet w powracaniu do zdrowia i w podnoszeniu jakości życia.
This work presents the phenomenon of mutual help and social support in a group of patients with breast cancer, against the background of transformations of the whole Amazonki (Amazons) movement. Social organizations embracing women after breast cancer treatment have been operating in Poland for over 30 years. In that time, they have proven their usefulness and importance. Since the beginning of their existence, the Amazons clubs were oriented to providing support, widely understood, to women patients in oncological wards and club members; they have been successful in that area so far. What is important is the fact that individual clubs of women after cancer treatment are not separate social units, but form a federation which, since the early 1990s, has been directing the process of rationalizing their operations. This work describes that process in general and presents the stage at which the Amazons movement is at present. What is interesting, the stagnation which has overcome the whole movement seems to have little or no effect at all on the functioning of separate associations, which pursue their statutory goal to support sick women in recovery and improve their quality of life.
