Lingulate brachiopods from chalcedonites of Tremadoc age are redescribed based on new material from the Holy Cross Mountains, Poland. The fauna includes 18 species, of which Elliptoglossa polonica and Siphonotretella popovi are new. The enigmatic Orbiculoidea? subovalis Biernat is redescribed as a species of the recently erected aberrant paterulids Diencobolus Holmer, Popov, Koneva, and Bassett. The fauna includes also Acrotreta dissimilis (Biernat), ?Ditreta dividua Biernat, Semitreta maior Biernat, Eurytreta minor Biernat, Mamatia retracta (Popov), Orbithele ceratopygarum (Brøgger), Siphonobolus uralensis (Lermontova), Alichovia analogica Biernat, Pomeraniotreta sp., Akmolina sp., Rowellella sp., Acanthambonia sp. A, Acanthambonia? sp. B, Leptembolon cf. lingulaeformis (Mickwitz), and the earliest known species of Eoconulus. Most of the recorded lingulate species are endemic, but a significant number are now known also from eastern Kazakhstan and the South Urals, as well as from the Tremadoc of Sweden and Norway.

Opis:
For several years, authors of the present paper have been observing specimens of cypresses of the genus Cupressus planted in Szczecin and its vicinity and within the area of the agglomeration of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot as well as in some botanical gardens and arboreta. The work is a collection of materials from long-term observations and a moderately complete study on cypresses grown in the northern and central part of Poland. In this respect, the present publication fills a gap in dendrological knowledge in our country. The authors have analyzed 6 taxa in total, assessing the possibility of their cultivation in Poland. Also species cultivated in Western Europe and other parts of the world are presented, as a reference to conditions and species grown in Poland. Most species presented in the paper had not been grown in Poland until recently, with the first specimens planted in the 1970-ties. Many of the described species produce flowers and cones and tolerate the Polish climatic conditions well; even temperature drop below –26ºC (winter 2005/2006) did not induce serious injuries and a decrease in their vitality. The species reported in this article as cultivated outdoors in Poland include Cupressus arizonica, Cupressus glabra (most commonly; both represented also by cultivars), Cupressus bakeri, Cupressus semprevirens, Cupressus stephensonii, Cupressus montana. Authors assume that the first three species can be successfully cultivated in Polish climatic conditions especially in places with suitably warm microclimate. The latter ones are represented only by single specimens growing in specific locality (very close to the open sea) so their hardiness have to be further investigated.

Opis:
Due to state ownership of both free game and most forests in Poland, large hunting districts and low number of hunters, hunting in Polish hunting grounds provides an opportunity to encounter many animal species, often in their almost natural environment. The qualities of Poland’s fauna and flora as well as Poland’s accession to the EU and the resulting ease of movement have contributed to the development of hunt tourism. As a consequence, there has been a rise in the demand for services offered by rural areas inhabitants, which in turn should make local communities recognize the need to preserve the natural environment.

Opis:
The present paper describes the current situation of yews in the Cisowy Jar Reserve: number, their state of health, height and diameter structure, and the sex ratio. In the result only 25 yews were found. Their state of health was relatively good, but many yews that grew on very heavily shaded stands were characterized by little height accretion and greater leaf reduction than those growing on more sunny positions. There is no continuity of population. No specimens in the height range between 51-100 cm were found. Sparse seedlings die in first years after appearing. Active human help is necessary to protect and to reconstruct the yew population in the reserve.

Opis:
Analysis of type localities of Pleistocene deposits from mid-eastern Poland (Kozi Grzbiet, Łuków, Biała Podlaska and Wilczyn) and southwestern Belarus (Smolarka and Postolovo) has provided a new view on the age, limits and correlation of the oldest Scandinavian glaciations in the area. Integration of palaeontological data with determination of the Brunhes/Matuyama boundary (780 ka) at Kozi Grzbiet and Smolarka suggests that the first glaciation (Narevian) preceded this boundary and had a slightly smaller extent in SW Belarus than hitherto considered. The second glaciation (Nidanian) occurred slightly above or at this palaeomagnetic boundary. In Poland it is the first South Polish Glaciation, a till of which can be traced as far as the Holy Cross Mts. In SW Belarus it is represented by a till to the south of Brest and Bereza, and connected there with the oldest glaciation.

Opis:
Eighteen spring wheat cultivars, recommended for commercial production in northern Poland, were assessed for Fusarium head blight (FHB) in natural non-epidemic conditions, from 2011 to 2013. Assessment was based on FHB incidence (proportion of heads with symptoms), disease severity (DS; proportion of bleached spikelets per head), proportion of Fusarium damaged kernels (FDK), and spectrum of Fusarium spp. colonising the kernels. Fusarium head blight incidence and DS often differed significantly among cultivars and years. There was a strong positive correlation between FHB incidence and DS. Fusarium head blight incidence and DS were not correlated with the June–July temperatures, and were only occasionally correlated with the total June–July rainfall. There was a weak positive correlation between FHB incidence and proportion of FDK. There was a strong positive correlation between DS and proportion of FDK. The cultivar affected colonisation of kernels by Fusarium spp. Fusarium poae was the FHB pathogen isolated most often. Fusarium poae colonised 6.0% of the kernels, on average, but up to 12.0% on individual cultivars. Other Fusarium species were less frequent: F. avenaceum in 5.6% of kernels, F. culmorum in 5.3%, F. tricinctum in 2.8%, F. graminearum in 1.5%, and F. sporotrichioides in 1.2%. Fusarium equiseti occurred sporadically. The importance of F. poae in the FHB complex is emphasised. All cultivars expressed ‘moderate FHB resistance’ if evaluated according to FHB incidence. Cultivars Arabella, Izera, Kandela, Monsun, Ostka Smolicka, and Struna expressed ‘moderate susceptibility’, and Bombona, Hewilla, Katoda, KWS Torridon, Łagwa, Nawra, Parabola, Radocha, SMH 87, Trappe, Tybalt, and Waluta expressed ‘susceptibility’ if evaluated by the proportion of FDK. Cultivars differed within the ‘moderately resistant’, ‘moderately susceptible’, and ‘susceptible’ categories. Cultivars Arabella, Izera, Kandela, Monsun, Ostka Smolicka, and Struna were the most promising and their resistance traits may be useful in FHB management.
