Polish press - Opis:
- The semicolon was introduced to the system of punctuation marks in the late 15th-century Italy. It has been used in written Polish since the 17th century. The mark was common until the end of the 19th century, but is very rarely used at present. This paper traces the history of the semicolon based on Polish press publications from the end of the 19th century until 2021. The analysis shows that the title mark began to lose its significance in the first half of the 20th century and its frequency has been gradually decreasing since then. At the same time, an increased frequency of using the dash has been noticeable.
