    This article attempts to examine and define the functions and character of the periodicals and other press publications of Polish Eastern Borderlands community functioning in the structures of the Polish war refugees and post-war political emigration in the West. The author presents the origins and the various phases of its history, including the phase of its inexorable decline. In a series of concise individual profiles the article covers all printed materials that can be classified as the press publications of the Polish Eastern Borderlands community.
    Przedmiotem artykułu jest próba zdefiniowania, określenia funkcji oraz charakterystyka czasopiśmiennictwa środowisk kresowych działających w strukturach wojennego uchodźstwa oraz powojennej emigracji politycznej na Zachodzie. Autor przedstawia genezę, poszczególne fazy rozwoju oraz okres schyłkowy tego czasopiśmiennictwa, przybliżając w syntetyczny sposób wszystkie tytuły prasowe, które mogą być zaliczone do kategorii czasopism kresowych.

    Odzyskanie niepodległości przez Polskę w 1918 roku z punktu widzenia Związku Sowieckiego oznaczało znaczne utrudnienie w realizacji planów wspomagania ruchów rewolucyjnych w Niemczech i innych krajach europejskich. W obliczu przegranej wojny z Polską, sowieci zorganizowali bardzo rozbudowany system, którego zadaniem było prowadzenie działalności dywersyjnej i terrorystycznej na Kresach Wschodnich. Planowanym efektem akcji wykorzystującej ludność białoruską, ukraińską i litewską, a także polskich komunistów, było wywołanie rewolucji, która uzyskałaby oczywiście wsparcie ze strony sowietów. W rezultacie, wschodnie regiony Polski miałyby zostać przyłączone do Związku Sowieckiego. Dzięki skutecznej akcji polskiego kontrwywiadu wojskowego i postawie społeczeństwa, polska granica wschodnia przetrwała aż do IV rozbioru Polski w 1939 roku.
    Regaining independence by Poland in 1918 from the point of view of the Soviet Union meant a significant impediment to the implementation of plans to support revolutionary movements in Germany and other European countries. After the defeat in the war with Poland, Soviet government organized a very complex system, whose task was to carry out sabotage and terrorist activities in the Polish Eastern Borderlands. In these activities there were to be engaged the Belarussians, Lithuanians and Ukrainians, as well as Polish members of the communist party. The planned result of these activities were calling the revolution, which, of course, have obtained support from the Soviets. As a result, the eastern Polish regions would be connected to the Soviet Union. Thanks to effective action by the Polish military counterintelligence and the attitude of society, Polish eastern border lasted until the fourth partition of Poland in 1939.

    The paper offers a comprehensive, synthetic account of the discourse on the subject of the Polish Eastern Borderland over the course of the last hundredyears. It analyses the ways in which the understanding of the notion of Kresy and “borderland”, as well as the strategies for presenting the term, have changed, including attempts to replace this category with other terms. Furthermore, the paper characterises the dynamics concerning the transformations of situational contexts that emerged in the period of the Second Polish Republic, developed during World War II, after 1945 (in the country and abroad) and continuing from the 1980s and1990s to the present. Significant interpretative perspectives include, among others, the trends in literary schools, the legends and myths of the Polish Eastern Borderland, the notion of the borderline of cultures, small homelands, and methodological phrases and breakthroughs (spatial turn, geopoetics, postcolonial criticism).

    Opis:
    The article is an attempt to organize the existing data on the phenomena of derivation in Polish Eastern Borderland dialects - Northern and Southern - with a short description and exemplification. Among the phenomena that differentiate both varieties of Polish Eastern Borderland dialects, those that are the result of different language neighborhood are most numerous. Certain features are the result of different source of the Polish language on the Polish Eastern Borderlands - Norhern and Southern (as -ak from Mazovia and -ę from the Lesser Poland in the names o young signifieds). In the lexical material from Polish Eastern Borderlands, the old formations, supported by foreign language influences or preserved as a result of isolation from contemporary Polish language, were recorded. A similar number of derivation phenomena, which are common to both varieties of Polish Eastern Borderland dialects (10) and specific phenomena (10 for the dialect of the Northern Polish Eastern Borderland and 8 for the Southern) are indicated in the dialect.

    “Material catastrophe” in the memories of three women – members of the Polish aristocracy and landed gentry from the Polish Eastern BorderlandsHistory has treated cruelly the families of landed gentry and aristocracy who lived in the Polish Eastern Borderland – the eastern provinces of the Second Polish Republic (Kresy). This essay focuses on memories of women, members of the Polish aristocracy and landed gentry from the kresy, published in the following books: “We and Our Homes” (My i nasze Siedliska) by Matylda née Windisch-Graetz Sapieżyna, “Times, Places, People. Memories from the Eastern Borderlands, 1893-1946” (Czasy, miejsca, ludzie. Wspomnienia z Kresów Wschodnich 1893-1946) by Helena née Jaczynowska Rothowa, and ”My Life, My Times” (Moje życie, mój czas) by Maria née Zdziechowska Sapieżyna. Their memories are not a full historical picture including the complex political and historic context, instead they concentrate on the precise fates of their families in the kresy (though their presence there was called, not without a reason, a kind of ‘colonization’). The three authoresses present themselves as victims of great politics and changes happening beyond their control. Thus, these three (auto)biographical narrations enter the canon of literature about the eastern frontier and correspond with the canon of ‘the esthetics of loss.’ the analysis demonstrates that in all the books under consideration particular attention has been devoted to the material sphere of everyday life because the female biographers wanted to describe their world in the Kresy in detail and at the same time show how much they had lost.
