Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the presented study was the comparison of physical activity of students from selected countries. The key of paper selection was to find various kinds of students groups from different countries and different cultures. The author compared results of students’ physical activity.Materials and methods: The paper compare the previously published papers aboutphysical activity of students from selected countries. All respondents were examined using as an instrument the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), a standardized questionnaire which enables the investigation and comparison of activity of various population groups. Results: Analysis of results of the study showed a great differentiation among students from individual countries. In each examined group of students, males proved to be the most active gender; however, among countries characterized by the highest physical activity, the results obtained by females were sometimes higher than those concerning males from countries characterized by lower activity. The study showed that the most active students are Americans and Czechs, whereas students from Croatia and South Africa show low physical activity. Conclusions: The conducted analyses demonstrated that in each country in the study the level of total activity is higher among males than females. The differences in the results of the summary MET value in males remained within the range 2,800 – 6,500 MET, while in females - within the range 1,700 – 5,900 MET. Male students were usually characterized by a high level of physical activity, whereas female students by a moderate level. Among Polish students, similar to their contemporaries from other countries, the level of total physical activity was higher among males than females. Polish students were most often characterized by a moderate level of physical activity.

Opis:
Stress is one of the single most significant factor for many physical and psychological dilemma. Long-term exposure to stress or chronic stress can lead to serious physical and psychological problems such as headaches, fatigue, depression, anxiety, stomachache, heart problems, chest pain, asthma, hypertension, liver dysfunction, diabetes, arthritis, suppressed immune system , skin conditions, irregular ministerial cycle, infertility, accelerated aging process, and premature death. As under perennial and /or continual stress condition the body releases excessive cortisol hormone that results in aforementioned issues. Physical activity may beneficial for mental and physical body system. Under intense or endurance exercise however increase total cortisol released levels far above the moderate training modalities which can be a destructive factor for people under extreme negative stress and can make worse stress health risk conditions. Thus, caution is need to be considered for people with negative stress.Nonetheless, according to the American physical activity guideline 10 minutes moderate aerobic exercise such as walking in division of 2×10 min or 3×10 min per day that can be performed throughout the week, seems to be helpful alternative for all adult in part people with psychological negative stress.

Opis:
In times of prevailing civilization diseases physical activity has become not only a vital element of a healthy lifestyle but also a duty of every human being. Subsequently published studies present the levels of physical activity in various socio-professional groups and the degree to which they meet health promotion recommendations. The challenge of today's times however is the search for new, often atypical or niche social groups and their efforts in undertaking and promoting physical activity. Such a type of group undoubtedly includes persons in the Independent Cultural Centers (ICCs) operating in Poland. The research conducted among them is probably the first attempt to get to know this social group and, above all, the physical activity undertaken by its members. Despite the fact that the activities of Independent Cultural Centers are organized in a bottom-up manner, in accordance with the Do It Yourself principle, their initiatives, including those related to physical culture, enable participants to achieve beneficial health outcomes. The results of the conducted research show that, following the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) criteria, a vast majority of the respondents are sufficiently and highly active. Moreover, compared to similar groups in other respects, they also come out more favorably.

Opis:
Young people living with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have less access to sports and physical activity. Even when they do, the instructors do not always have the training to include them adequately. This study aimed to identify barriers that young people with ASD may face and strategies to overcome these barriers. In order to meet the objectives of the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with young people, parents, and caregivers. Then, a qualitative analysis of the interviews has allowed the identification of three types of barriers: related to ASD, related to the physical and social environments, and related to the physical activity itself. Three categories of coping strategies have also been identified by the participants. In order to help reduce the barriers, one should focus on the social environment, the activity, and communication strategies. This study confirms previous research and shows that there are effective ways to intervene with young people living with ASD in order to optimize their integration in sports and physical activity and that it can be done with little resources.

The report presents the internship analysis results between the p hysical activity during the week and life quality fields in mid and late adolescence of students in different sport level. In the research took part students from secondary schools and universities from Slovakia (n=308). The life quality was observed via m odificated questionnaire SQUALA and the level of the physical activity during the week in hours (PA). The results are presented by descriptive characteristics (n, M, SD) and the statistic importance of differences, relations is rated by non – parametric me thods (W, U, r s ) at the levels of importance (p< 0. 05, p< 0. 20; p = level of significant = p - value = 1%, 5%, 10%, 20%).Positive interactions PA with life quality fields were found in mid adolescence. In the group of active athletes in mid adolescence were pr oved positive interactions with the f ield of physical well - being (p<0. 10), field of appearance and possession of things (p<,01), by occasional athletes with the spiritual field (p< 0. 01) and the field of education (p< 0. 20). In the group of students in late adolescence was proved a positive interaction PA only with the field of material safety (p<0.01).It was repeatedly proved that mid and late adolescence is a very stormy and unstable period of lifetime, mainly when talking about satisfaction with life qual ity. The importance of life quality plays a great role in the lives of adolescents. It was also pointed out that there are possibilities to influence the fields of life quality via physical activities, but especially the importance of creating sufficient c ircumstances to enhance the life quality in social environment of adolescents. The contribution was published via the grant resource MŠ SR KEGA 003UKF - 4/2016.

Opis:
Introduction: Applying increasingly modern forms of cancer treatment contributes to the higher survival of patients with neoplasm. Nevertheless, every single element of such a treatment, no matter how effective, brings some risk of cardiovascular complications. Objective: The study objective was a review of the clinical research analyzing cardiovascular complications resulting from various forms of oncological treatment and the use of rehabilitation in these patients.Material: The study presents contemporary forms of cancer treatment which may cause negative cardiovascular symptoms. Results: Due to their negative influence on the cardiovascular system oncological drugs can be divided into those: causing heart muscle mass loss, arrhythmia, with a cardio depressive effect, hypertension, heart ischemia as well as those enhancing thrombo-embolic disorders. The cardiotoxicity of oncological treatment is very frequent in patients after combination therapy (using chemotherapy or/and radiotherapy) or with coexisting heart disease. According to the heart failure classification every patient after chemotherapy or/and radiotherapy has a higher risk of its development. Thus it is important to know the type of treatment, its dosages, the time from initiation to the treatment completion, so that the rehabilitation program for this group of patients based on exercise is applied through correct medically supervised physical activities. Conclusions: The oncological benefit of therapy is much higher than the possible cardiological risk but, keeping the patient’s wellbeing in mind, an optimal cardiac diagnostic is necessary so as rehabilitation is based on individual cardiac fitness. In patients with cancer, special attention should be paid to the assessment of the cardio-respiratory endurance rates before rehabilitation and the choice of physical activity, sporting discipline made for this group of patients.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the level of physical activity in people with diabetes, depending on their characteristics. Methods: The sample consisted of 81 participants with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and belonging to a diabetes care association. First of all, the participants completed the short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Questionnaire online. Subsequently, they indicated their sex, age, type of diabetes, the presence of other complications and the years since diagnosis. In addition, data on consumption of tobacco and alcohol, glycosylated hemoglobin and fasting glucose were collected. For the analysis of the data, t-test for independent samples was used to compare means between categories, always with a level of significance of p <.05. Furthermore, effect size was calculated through Cohen’s d. Finally, the frequency and the percentage of the variables were calculated. Findings: The results showed in all the categories an average level of physical activity higher than the recommendations of physical activity for people with diabetes, being the level of physical activity predominantly moderate. Although women also complied with the recommendations for physical activity, their level of physical activity was significantly lower than the level of men Conclusions: It is recommended to expand the research on the barriers and motivations found by people with diabetes to practice physical activity, playing special attention to women with diabetes.

Opis:
Background: Physiotherapists are trained in the use of physical activity for health promotion, and therefore are expected to be physically active themselves. Aim of the study: This study determined the physical activity level and energy expenditure of clinical physiotherapists and physiotherapy educators. Material and methods: The research design is cross-sectional survey. Sixty participants were selected using the consecutive sampling technique. A pedometer (Omron) was used to measure the number of steps taken by the participants, the distance covered, and the overall energy expenditure. The number of steps was used to classify the participants’ physical activity levels. The data obtained were analysed using descriptive statistics and frequency, percentages and chi-square inferential statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation, Spearman’s rank correlation, independent t-tests and Mann-Whitney U tests. The alpha level was set at 0.05. Results: The mean age and BMI of all participants were 36.81±7.86 years and 26.16±4.46kg/m² respectively. The average number of steps taken per day was 8002±3411 and the mean energy expenditure was 248.26±182.92kcal. This study revealed that 21.3% of the participants were sedentary, 27.7% were ‘low active’, 27.7% were moderately active, 10.6% were active and 12.8% were highly active. The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient showed a significant negative relationship between the number of steps and age (r = -0.292 p= 0.047) and a significant positive relationship between the number of steps and energy expenditure (r = 0.325; p = 0.026), respectively. There was a significant inverse relationship between the number of steps, the energy expenditure and the age of the participants. There was no significant difference in the number of steps per day, PAL and energy expenditure between clinical physiotherapists and physiotherapy educators. Conclusions: Physiotherapists should improve their physical activity levels, as most of them (76.7%) were classified in the low activity level category.

Regular physical activity in the period before and during pregnancy largely determines the correct course of this important state in the life ofa woman. The purpose of this paper is to present the subjective research tools most commonly used to assess physical activity in pregnant women. The following questionnaires were studied: Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire, Kaiser Physical Activity Survey, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Paffenbarger Physical Activity Questionnaire, Seven-Day Physical Activity Recall, Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire and Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents and Adults. Due to the phenomenon of limiting physical activity among pregnant women, reported in numerous studies conducted around the world, anda negligible amount of Polish research on the assessment of physical activity in pregnant women, it seems reasonable to promote methods that allow for the observation of trends of this phenomenon in Poland. It seems that tracking trends is important for the work of doctors, midwives and physiotherapists, whose role is to, among other things, promote healthy behaviour.
Analizowano przydatność kwestionariuszy: Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire, Kaiser Physical Activity Survey, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Paffenbarger Physical Activity Questionnaire, Seven-Day Physical Activity Recall, Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire, oraz Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents and Adults.

Introduction: The study assessed the usefulness of selected trials from the European Physical Fitness Test as a tool for measuring the physical fitness of children with recurrent respiratory diseases treated in subterraneotherapy conditions.Research project: Before-after study.Materials and methods: The assessment was conducted in the first and last day of a rehabilitation stay at the ‘Wieliczka’ Salt Mine Health Resort with the participation of 58 children, comprising 25 girls and 33 boys aged 5 to 10 years old, who had been performing daily breathing exercises, general rehabilitation exercises, some form of dancing and running with time measurement. To assess the physical fitness of the children, the 3 trials of the European Physical Fitness Test – EUROFIT were used, evaluating the flexibility, speed and explosive strength of the lower limbs and also the value for a standardized, standing long jump was calculated. Results: The mean distance of the sit-and-reach test increased after the rehabilitation program to 1.78 cm for the 7-10 year-old girls (p ≤ 0.05). The average distance of the standardized, standing long jump increased from 0.7 cm in the 5-6 year-old girls, up to 6.6 cm in the 7-10 year-old girls. In the boys group, these results were higher in the older children and amounted to 3.6 cm, than in the younger - 2.7 cm. Statistically significant differences were noted in children aged 7-10 years old (Figure 3). Analyzing the parameter which takes into account the standing long jump and body height, similar relationships was observed. Conclusions: The proposed trials of the European Physical Fitness Test seem to be a good tool for assessing the physical fitness of children with recurrent respiratory diseases. The results are encouraging and indicate the need to engage in comprehensive rehabilitation proceedings with regard to kinetic therapy, music therapy and choreotherapy. Further research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of a rehabilitation programme carried out under subterraneotherapy.
Wstęp: W pracy oceniono przydatność wybranych prób z Europejskiego Testu Sprawności Fizycznej jako narzędzia służącego do pomiaru sprawności fizycznej dzieci z nawracającymi schorzeniami układu oddechowego leczonych w warunkach subterraneoterapii. U chłopców rezultaty te były większe u starszych i wyniosły 3,6 cm, niż u młodszych – 2,7 cm. Różnice istotne statystycznie odnotowano u dzieci w wieku 7-10 lat życia. Analizując parametr uwzględniający skok z miejsca i wysokość ciała zaobserwowano podobne zależności.

Opis:
Ageing has a strong influence on the changes of the rheological parameters of blood. Then the level of fibrinogen increases which influences the rise of plasma viscosity, red cell aggregation and the whole blood viscosity. The level of fibrinogen in humans varies from 2.0 to 4.0 g/l. Whereas in people ageing, who are over 60, its rate increases from 3.3 to 4.0 g/l, which is an upper limit of the norm. In old people the erythrocytes become less deformable, making for an increase of blood viscosity and decreasing the speed of the flow through the blood vessels. The foregoing rheological blood changes are factors of risk for cardiovascular diseases among old people. That is why it is essential to improve the rheological blood parameters in old people by the training application. It is observed that people who led a sedentary lifestyle and who take up regular physical activity have better blood parameters than those described above: a decrease of blood viscosity and positive changes of elastic red cell properties. The observed decrease of plasma viscosity after endurance training application can cause a permanent reduction of heart strain, an increase of tissue blood circulation and can result in a decrease of cardiovascular complications. In the review article the issue of changes of the rheological parameters of blood which take place while ageing and the influence of physical activity on rheological blood indicators have been presented.

Opis:
Nordic Walking (NW) has become a popular form of physical activity. NW is a form of outdoor physical activity based on marching with use of poles adapted from cross–country skiing. The main goal of using the poles is to involve muscles, which are not used during normal walking. This enables performing high intensity exercises with a relatively low level of perceived exertion. The history, methodology and technique of Nordic Walking were presented in this paper. Moreover, possible role of Nordic Walking in physical rehabilitation, in particular in early cardiac rehabilitation, was discussed. This paper is based on the available data from the literature and on our own experience concerning the application of Nordic Walking in rehabilitation of patients early after a myocardial infarction. This study was performed in patients admitted to the Centre of Cardiac Rehabilitation in Kiekrz. NW is added as an additional training to standard rehabilitation program comprising ergometer endurance training and callisthenics. The literature review focused mainly on the usefulness of Nordic Walking in rehabilitation of various groups of patients, such as the elderly, patients with pain, and patients with neurological or cardiovascular disorders. The available evidence suggests that Nordic Walking is a natural and safe, yet intensive, form of physical activity that can be widely used in physical rehabilitation.
W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono dostępną wiedzę o historii, metodyce i technice, coraz bardziej popularnej formy ćwiczeń ruchowych, znanych jako Nordic Walking (NW).
