- Identity of Sacred Music in the form of Stabat Mater on the examples of crosssection of composers – analysis of chosen performance aspects. Medieval sequence of Stabat Mater, which expresses suffering of Saint Marry lying under the cross of her moribund Son, became an inspiration to a wide range of composers over the periods of time. These musical pieces are characterized by deep emotional and spiritual message. It is due to the fact that Stabat Mater message focuses on immense pain, helplessness and despair. The most probable original author of Stabat Mater lyrics, was Jacopone da Todi that lived in the thirteen century. However, many of researchers believe that it could have been written sooner. Stabat Mater form is an excellent representation of the essence of sacred music. This motive actually comes from the catholic liturgy taking place during the time of Lent. Throughout the centuries, many different composers attempted their own interpretation of this magnificent form. In the medievals and baroque époques these were for example Josquin des Pres, Giovanni da Palestrina, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Domenico Scarlatti, Antonio Caldara or Antonio Vivaldi. In the classicism, they were Domenico Cimarosa or Joseph Haydn. Later on, it was also done by notable representative of the Italian bel canto Gioachino Rossini. In the Romanticism, Stabat Mater was represented in the pieces of Dworzak or Liszt. In the twentieth century, it was interpreted by Karol Szymanowski, Francis Poulenc and Krzysztof Penderecki.
