The article is a new edition of Karta Rogawskiego, a forgotten 15th century work written in the Polish language. The previous edition, available only in transliteration, comes from 1911. It is a single parchment sheet torn from a different code and then used as a cover, now partly illegible. The content revolves around a scene of Jesus being interrogated by Pontius Pilate, who delivers judgement. The article provides a new transliteration as well as transcription; photographs of the the manuscript have also been attached.

The paper discusses some aspects of possibilities and dangers that new digital technologies bring in the camp of transmission of texts, especially the literary ones, and their scholar edition. While the new trends and achieve- ments are still under discussion, a glance towards the similar situation of some 500 years ago, when printing press was introduced to replace, step by step, a manuscript communication, could be useful to understand what we experience and to foresee some ways these new technologies will probably undertake.

À partir d’un corpus d’une dizaine d’ouvrages (des éditeurs Belfond, Bordas, Buchet, Corti, Girodias, Laffont, Nadeau, Nyssen, Pauvert, Verny et Zylberstein), cet article esquisse une petite poétique des mémoires d’éditeurs, genre qui oscille entre autobiographie, histoire et portraits, et qui conjugue mémoire individuelle et mémoire collective. L’étude porte sur les différentes composantes et les topoï de ce type de récit : le récit de formation, les motifs de la passion pour la lecture et le livre comme objet, le récit de fondation, la description des tâches de l’éditeur (choix des manuscrits, accompagnement des auteurs, course aux prix littéraires…). Présentant une vision pragmatique de la production du livre, les mémoires d’éditeurs apportent un éclairage alternatif et précieux sur la littérature : contexte historique de sa production, conditions matérielles et financières de la création, stratégies auctoriales et éditoriales, rapports entre auteurs et éditeurs, et ils offrent une galerie de portraits dans laquelle les écrivains apparaissent sous un jour nouveau.
Based on a corpus of ten works (of the following publishers: Belfond, Bordas, Buchet, Corti, Girodias, Laffont, Nadeau, Nyssen, Pauvert, Verny and Zylberstein), this paper tries to define a small poetics of publishers’ memoirs, a genre which oscillates between an autobiography, a story and a portrait, and which mixes individual and collective memory. The study focuses on different components and topoï of this kind of narratives: a Bildungsroman, themes of passion for books and a book as an object, a foundation story, a description of a publisher’s tasks (choice of manuscripts, supporting authors, running for literary awards, etc.). Presenting a pragmatic view on the production of books, publishers’ memoirs offer a gallery of renewed portraits of different writers, as well as afford an alternative and interesting glance at literature, and in particular at: historical context of its production, material and pecuniary conditions of its creation, author’ and publishers’ strategies, relationships between authors and publishers.

The article concerns Zofia Lipska from Potocki family – a daughter of Polish poet Wacław Potocki. It is the first edition of funeral speech given at the funeral of Zofia Lipska by Aleksander Minor. The manuscript of the speech is a part of Minor’s Silva rerum and it has not been published yet although it constitutes an important supplementation to the biography of Potocki family. The speech is prefaced by an analysis of the text, as well as by the biography of Zofia Lipska and presentation of her image depicted in the poems of her father.

Opowiadania oświęcimskie (Auschwitz stories) by Maria Zarębińska-Broniewska was first published in a book version in 1948. All the texts included in the book, however, had beenwritten earlier. First of them were initially released in a daily Polska Zbrojna (Armed Poland) in early June 1945, just a few days after the author’s return from a concentration camp. They were one of the first accounts which concerned women’s concentration camps. The book which was published later included nine out of eleven short stories written by Zarębińska. There is also an extant manuscript a novel’s synopsis. However, a very ambitious project of creating tens of short stories was not completed due to the author’s death. This article is a description of the history of Auschwitz stories and their particular editions; it also includes two forgotten stories which were not included in published collections.

The present paper contains information about dramas in editions of Cyprian Kamil Norwid's writings published up till now, and especially about editorial differences between them, mainly in the field of language, and to a lesser degree, in the field of punctuation. These results are then compared with the text of dramas prepared for a new edition of Norwid's works (Collected Works) that started to appear in 2007 under the imprint of the Learned Society of the Catholic University of Lublin. The Author of the present article has prepared dramas for the edition, taking the poet's autographs or (in case of their being lost) their first edition as the basis. It has turned out that a considerable number of corrections had to be made in the new edition of the text of Norwid's dramas, which is illustrated in the article by numerous examples.

The essay presents an interpretation of Bolesław Leśmian’s poem entitled Topielec (The Drowned), which has already been the subject of interest of many different scholars. The author of the essay draws attention to the difference in editing which appeared in the second edition of the volume Łąka (The Meadow) from 1937. The first edition of the book from 1920 contains the word “bezświat” (unworld) in the phrase “bezświat zarośli” (unworld of thicket) and this version was commonly adopted in the subsequent editions and analyses of Leśmian’s poetry. The author of the essay argues that is is rather the version of the second edition, namely “bezświt” (non-dusk) in “bezświt zarośli” (non-dusk of thicket), that is in accord with the poetics of Leśmian’s verse and the idea of the work. In the interpretation in accordance with the 1937 edition Topielec is a poem about drowning in death and gradual losing of the soul.  
Szkic prezentuje interpretację wiersza Bolesława Leśmiana Topielec, który wielokrotnie był przedmiotem zainteresowania badaczy. Autorka szkicu zwraca uwagę na różnicę edytorską, która pojawiła się w drugim wydaniu tomu Łąka z 1937 roku. W pierwszym wydaniu książki z roku 1920 wydrukowane jest słowo „bezświat” („bezświat zarośli”) i ta wersja przyjęta została powszechnie w kolejnych wznowieniach i opracowaniach poezji Leśmiana. Autorka szkicu ukazuje, że to raczej wersja drugiego wydania – „bezświt” („bezświt zarośli”) – zgodna jest z poetyką Leśmianowskich wierszy i zamysłem utworu. W interpretacji zgodnej z edycją z 1937 roku Topielec to wiersz o pogrążaniu w śmierci i stopniowym zatracaniu duszy.

Artykuł opowiada losy powojennej edycji wierszy Krzysztofa Kamila Baczyńskiego zatytułowanej Śpiew z pożogi (1947). Książka przygotowana przez Stefanię Baczyńską i Kazimierza Wykę w swoim układzie całkowicie odbiegała od pozostawionej tuż przed wybuchem powstania autoryzowanej wersji Śpiewu z pożogi, który miał być pierwszym oficjalnym debiutem poetyckim Baczyńskiego. W artykule rozważany jest wpływ późniejszej całościowej edycji Utworów zebranych i na recepcję poezji Baczyńskiego, i na ustalenie w świadomości literackiej wizerunku poety.
The story of the post-war edition of Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński’s poems entitled Śpiew z pożogi [Song of Fire] (1947) is discussed. The book edited by Stefania Baczyńska and Kazimierz Wyka completely disregarded and differed from the authorial version of Śpiew z pożogi prepared before the outbreak of the Uprising, which was meant to be Baczyński’s official poetic debut. The impact of the post-war edition of Utwory zebrane [Collected works] on the reception of Baczyński’s poetry and the poet’s image in Polish literary culture is discussed.

In accordance with the title, the article is concerned with the editorial problems posed by the part of Norwid's work that is least known, that is his notes and albums,. The need of reflection on this domain of the poet's work appeared along with the new edition of the poet's Works. Within the edition Norwid's “portfolios” have been separated as individual volumes, which stresses both the qualitative and quantitative dimension of the phenomenon in the work of the author of On the freedom of speech (Gomulicki's edition of Complete Works included only the texts written with Norwid's own hand, excluding prints and illustrations – drawn both by the poet himself and by other people). On the one hand the article explains the reasons for such a decision, and on the other it undertakes a number of editorial questions as well as ones connected with the text that appear as a consequence of the assumptions that have been made. Apart from the problem of the autonomy of Norwid's notes and albums the question of the integral character of the collection has been touched upon; also, the problem of their final textological form, their contents (e.g. the question if inserts made by hand should be included, as they are not Norwid's own texts, but together with the notes and drawings they constitute a certain semantic and compositional whole). Ordering the illegible and sometimes complicated compositional design of the collection should be accompanied by reflection – which is shown by analyses – saying that in the case of Norwid's notes and albums (e.g. in the case of the so-called “his own summaries” or “the authors summaries”) excessive care taken of legibility and accessibility (an example being Gomulicki's edition) may lead to excessive “polishing”, and in consequence to upsetting the genological bases of the notes and albums. The problem is also raised of legibility of the notes and other sources Norwid used (often the notes are just excerpts from books he had read, and the drawings and water-colors are imitations of other artists' works). Selected issues from the domain of editing notes and albums show the specificity and stress the identity of this part of Norwid's work.

W artykule zawarto edycję toruńskich artykułów wojskowych z lat 1607-1699, które mają charakter zarządzenia wewnętrznego i dotyczą działań żołnierzy w obrębie murów miasta. Źródło omówiono w kontekście badań nad dziejami wojskowości toruńskiej w okresie przedrozbiorowym. Zachowany przekaz źródłowy przechowywany w Archiwum Państwowym w Toruniu potwierdza dążenia władz miejskich do uregulowania kwestii związanych ze służbą żołnierzy w garnizonie miejskim oraz ukrócenia ich niezdyscyplinowania.
Der Artikel enthält eine Edition der Militärartikel von Toruń von 1607-1699, die als interne städtische Verordnung zu verstehen sind und Aktivitäten der Soldaten innerhalb der Stadtmauern betreffen. Die Quelle wurde im Rahmen der Forschungen zur Geschichte des Thorner Militärwesens in der Zeit vor den Teilungen besprochen. Die im Staatsarchiv in Toruń aufbewahrte Quelle bestätigt die Bemühungen der Stadtbehörden, die Fragen des Dienstes der Soldaten in der städtischen Garnison zu regeln und deren Undiszipliniertheit ein Ende zu setzen.
The article contains an edition of Toruń's military articles from the period 1607-1699, which are internal regulations and concern the activities of soldiers within the city walls. The source was discussed in the context of research on the history of Toruń's military in the pre-partition period. The preserved source materials kept at the State Archives in Toruń confirm the efforts of the municipal authorities to regulate the issues related to the service of soldiers in the municipal garrison and to curb their lack of discipline.

The article constitutes the first Polish edition of selected letters of Maria Casimire Sobieska to her daughter-in-law Hedwig Elisabeth Amalia von Pfalz-Neuburg, which survived in the Sobieski Archive in Olawa and are currently held in the National Historical Archives of Belarus in Minsk (fond 695, op. 1, no. 261). The princess, wife to Prince James Sobieski, is almost invisible in Polish historiography; a fact which finds its reflection in the Polish-language source materials. The modest selection of letters published herein seeks to redress this fault, if most inadequately. The selected letters - thirteen out of forty - cover the period of over twenty-five years, between the year 1691, in which the prince and princess married, to the year 1715. The situation of the Sobieski family, both in the Commonwealth and abroad, changed diametrically over that time, as did the European political scene; traces of those changes are found in the letters. They also throw an interesting light on Maria Casimire's relationship with her daughter-in-law, belying the theory about the queen's dislike of the princess, or even hostility towards her, put forward by 19th-century historians. They are also an interesting pendant to Maria Casimire's letters to her eldest son written over the same period of time; the first two volumes of those letters have been published by the Museum of King John III's Palace at Wilanów.

The article is a review of the first volume of the critical edition of Norwid’s prose developed by Rościsław Skręt. The review focuses on the choice of works for editing and print, on establishing the status of source texts, determining the form of the texts for print, performing language modernization and associating the textual material with iconography. Examining the actions undertaken by the editor in all these dimensions, one can put forward a claim that his work tries to follow two contradictory editorial directions. The editor developed an innovative canon of Norwid’s prose and managed to avoid mistakes made by his predecessors. At the same time, one can observe that the editor restrained himself from departing too far from the solutions adopted by the previous editors. This latter tendency is particularly evident on the linguistic plane. Hence, one can describe the reviewed edition of the text as a half-way revolution.

The review focuses on the choice of works for editing and print, on establishing the status of source texts, determining the form of the texts for print, performing language modernization and associating the textual material with iconography. Examining the actions undertaken by the editor in all these dimensions, one can put forward a claim that his work tries to follow two contradictory editorial directions. The editor developed an innovative canon of Norwid’s prose and managed to avoid mistakes made by his predecessors. At the same time, one can observe that the editor restrained himself from departing too far from the solutions adopted by the previous editors. This latter tendency is particularly evident on the linguistic plane. Hence, one can describe the reviewed edition of the text as a half-way revolution.

The paper Editorial issues of “Spitamegeranomachia” by Jan Achacy Kmita is a piecemeal report on the work on the two-part publication “Spitamegeranomachia” of Jan Achacy Kmita – edition..., which appeared in the journal “Meluzyna. Dawna literatura i kultura” (2017). The new edition of the poem was based on the first print (1595) and its nineteenth-century re-edition (1897). The editorial contributions of Aleksander Brückner and Jacek Sokolski were also used. The article illustrates the difficulties that were overcame during the commenting of the text and indicates at the same time the lack of the poem’s more extensive study of the genre structure in the known literature. It is qualified as a heroicomic but also as an allusive or satirical-political poem.
Artykuł Zagadki edytorskie „Spitamegeranomachii” Jana Achacego Kmity jest wyrywkowym opisem prac nad dwuczęściową publikacją „Spitamegeranomachia” Jana Achacego Kmity – edycja…, która ukazała się w czasopiśmie „Meluzyna. Dawna literatura i kultura” (2017 r.). Nowa edycja poematu opierała się na pierwodruku (1595 r.) i jego XIX-wiecznej reedycji (1897 r.), spożytkowano też przyczynki edytorskie Aleksandra Brücknera i Jacka Sokolskiego. Artykuł obrazuje trudności pokonane w trakcie komentowania tekstu. Wskazuje się jednocześnie na brak obszerniejszego opracowania struktury gatunkowej poematu: kwalifikowany jest on jako heroikomikum, ale też jako poemat aluzyjny lub satyryczno-polityczny.

The paper aims at analyzing the practice on the borderline of retranslation and revision carried out by translators who rework their own previous translations. The comparison between the three Italian editions (1999, 2013, 2020) of Olga Tokarczuk’s Prawiek i inne czasy shows how the same translator gradually moved towards a more foreignizing approach, fixings errors and modernizing the language, though not eschewing a domesticating strategy. These re-editions seem to be linked with the growing symbolic capital and contractual power of the writer on the international arena, which arouse the need of more accurate translations and reinterpretations of her works.
Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu analizę praktyki na granicy pomiędzy retranslacją a korektą, realizowaną przez tłumaczy, którzy przerabiają swoje poprzednie tłumaczenia. Porównanie między trzema wydaniami włoskimi powieści Prawiek i inne czasy Olgi Tokarczuk (1999, 2013, 2020) pokazuje, że ta sama tłumaczka stopniowo zmierzała do egzotyzującego podejścia, przy tym poprawiając błędy i modernizując język, choć nie stroniąc od strategii udomawiającej. Nowe wydania włoskie zdają się być związane ze wzrastającym kapitałem symbolicznym i siłą umowną pisarki na scenie międzynarodowej, które rodzą potrzebę na dokładniejsze przekłady i reinterpretacje jej dzieł.

Many royal privileges have been preserved from the Jagiellonian period, releasing the townsmen from the obligation to pay taxes. The entries of these regulations appear both in the books of the royal register (often in an abbreviated form) and in the form of diplomas, sometimes incorporated into city cartularies. An increasing number of the abovementioned regulations is visible in the royal register, especially since the reign of Sigismund I, which can be explained by both greater care taken to enter the temporary acts into the register, and the intensification of issuing such regulations in view of the increasingly frequent (ultimately regular) adoption of the urban revenue tax in Sejm. Tax liberations in the Jagiellonian period belonged to the exclusive competence of the king; therefore, these documents belonged to leges speciales passed in opposition to the revenues binding for all, and thus falling into the category of the Polish ius commune. The tax privileges served primarily to help cities ruined by natural disasters and war turmoil. The period of exemption depended on the type of tax, while the goal of liberation was most fully achieved by longer exemptions from the basic tax — the royal urban revenue tax. The much shorter period of exemption from the excise tax was justified by its consumption character and the fact that it was an indirect tax, as the buyer of the goods was in fact charged for its costs. The circumstances in which the tax exemptions were issued make the tax liberation privileges a sad testimony to frequent fires, which in the vast majority of cases consumed the wooden buildings of the towns of the Jagiellonian era.

This paper attempts to characterise generally the poetic legacy of Stanislaw Kostka Potocki. In several books of the Public Archives of Potocki’s family one can found mainly unpublished poetical works preserved in various forms: autographs, copies controlled by the author and his fair copies or copies made by secretaries. Some of the texts are unfinished, others are carefully refined, however, preserved number of variants and correction versions of concrete works give opportunity to analyse the author’s workshop. First of all, it seems that these are the original texts, although there are many problems associated with their attribution. On the basis of the preserved materials, it can be assumed that Stanislaw Kostka Potocki could have prepared some of his poems for publication.

In the article for the first time two poems by Anna Kamieńska are printed that may be numbered among her last ones. They were both written in December 1985, that is half a year before the poet's death. The first of them, Szpital (Hospital) was known from the edition, in which (wrongly) the rough version was recognized as the basis of the print. The second one, Krajobraz (Landscape), till this moment was not known to researchers. Textological documentation and short commentaries are added to the texts of the poems.

Ewangeliarz archangielski z 1092 roku jest jednym z najważniejszych źródeł w badaniach wschodniosłowiańskiej tradycji rękopiśmiennej. Był publikowany dwukrotnie: w 1912 (faksymile) i 1997 roku. Drugie wydanie (edycja tekstu) nie było wierne oryginałowi. Jej pierwsza trudno dostępna errata została opublikowana w roku 1998 (po japońsku), druga w 2012 (i 2013) roku. Niestety, w tych dwóch publikacjach nie zostały wymienione wszystkie niedokładności między edycją tekstu Ewangeliarza archangielskiego i jego oryginałem. Niniejszy artykuł zawiera tylko nieścisłości opuszczone w drugiej erracie z 2012 (i 2013) roku.
The Archangelsk Gospel from the year 1092 is one of the most important sources for research of the east Slavonic manuscript tradition. It was published twice: in the year 1912 (facsimile) and 1997. The second edition (with edited text) wasn’t faithful to its original. Its first errata, hardly accessible, was published in 1998 (in Japanese) and second in 2012 (and 2013).Unfortunately these two publications didn’t enumerate all discrepancies between the edition of Archangelsk Gospel in 1997 and its original. This article mentions only the inaccuracies that weren’t published at errata form 2012 (and 2013).

In this article, the author merely indicates the selected results of the work on the edition of Diariusz legationis JWJMci Pana Strażnika Wielkiego Koronnego odprawionej roku 1732 (The diary of the 1732 diplomatic journey of Crown Great Guard) kept in the archives of Adam Mickiewicz University Library in Poznań. The research carried out in order to prepare the editorial work presented in this article was focused on the authenticity, source and the author of the text. The analysed diary is a late-eighteenthor early-nineteenth-century copy of an earlier version made between 1744 and 1826 – which is when it was acquired for the library of Czerniejewo-Radomice owned by the Skórzewski Counts. It was dated as a result of research that covered such issues as the paper it was written on, the watermarks in it and the entries describing its origin. The copy was made in a manor, most likely in Waplewo Wielkie owned by the Sierakowski family of the Ogończyk coat of arms. It has been determined that apart from the copy kept in the University Library in Poznań and a related record of the diplomatic journey published in Kuryer Polski (Polish Courier) from 1732 to 1733, there were at least two versions of the text: a diary included in the collection of Waplewo library and the original it was a copy of, which could be both the diary and additional documents and letters related to the diplomatic journey.

The article is concerned with the edition of Cyprian Norwid's Promethidion prepared by Stefan Sawicki. The recognized theoretician, historian and interpreter of literature appears here both as the author of a comprehensive monograph of Promethidion and as an experienced editor embracing the central categories of the poet's viewpoint and artistry, and, on the other hand, with a linguistic precision analyzing particular expressions and tropes. His discerning analysis, careful textological edition of the text and comprehensive interpretation of the poem serve each other. The edition, albeit designed for a broad group of readers, meets the requirements of a critical edition, gives a lot of precisely justified amendments, the necessary explanations, and a list of variants of the text. In the sphere of meanings and structures the poem glitters with variety and shows many aspects of the problems. “Concepts-keys” that are central to the poem are the concept of art (“with no limits”) whose definition is in many ways completed by the concepts of beauty, love, work, good and truth, “constantly approached as if from the side of the conscience”. They are made manifest in utterances by many subjects that have differentiated styles and genres, which is done by means of peculiar techniques (amplifications, approximations, speaking by negation assuming the form of a dialogue, the “counterpoint” technique, evoking the value “by negating anti-values”). However, the whole forms a cohesive “Norwidian collage”, and the image of a “superior speaking subject” appearing as an “image of a prophet of the contemporary Church” has a clear author's stamp. Hence, the message of the poem is perceived “as the voice of a poet: a real one, convinced that what he wants to convey to the society is just”
