- This paper provides an overview of the scholarly thought of Leo Klejn (born 1.07.1927), a prominent Russian scholar. The discussion is based on Klejn’s selected works, first of all his monumental work ‘Трудно быть Клейном. Автобиография в монологах и диалогах’, translated into Polish as ‘Trudno być Klejnem. Autobiografia w monologach i dialogach’, Sankt Petersburg, 2010, pp 600. This paper looks at Klejn’s life, his lot, often dramatic, but most of all his creative and outstanding works in the field of archaeology, anthropology and philology within their historical contexts. It also examines the reasons behind addressing certain issues.
