Opis:
Byzantine philosopher Georgios Gemistos Pletho (1355–1452) is regarded as the first Philhellene who rejected Christianity and attempted to restore the pogan religion of Hellenic gods. In his last work Books of Laws (Νόμων συγγραφή) he presents his own system of theology based on ancient philosophy and Greek mythology. The aim of the paper is to outline some main features of Plethon’s theology and to show the influence of Greek tradition on it.

Opis:
Argument and literary form, and how they both relate to each other, are crucial aspects of any interpretation of the Platonic dialogues. Plato the author and Plato the philosopher always work hand in hand in that Plato the author tries to serve Plato the philosopher. It is, therefore, an appropriate principle for approaching the study of Plato’s philosophy to take into account the literary aspects of the dialogues and to ask how Plato’s literary art of writing could possibly support his philosophical message and, for instance, to consider what this relation means in the context of the debate about developementalism versus unitarianism in Plato’s philosophy. In the present paper , I argue that the performance of the characters plays an important role in this context. I discuss various passages in the Laws which analyse the weakness of the will and I compare what Plato says there with the performance of Alcibiades in the Symposium. I conclude that the passages in the Laws can be read as a kind of commentary on Alcibiades’ behavior and I consider what this relation means in the context of the debate about developementalism versus unitarianism in Plato’s philosophy.

Opis:
This paper highlights the platonic conception of old age as very different from the traditional one. In order to demostrate it, the Parmenides and the Laws will be analyzed as key texts to understand the new philosophical meaning of old age that finds his main characterization in connection with young age. The topic of old age will be discussed along with youth training and the birth of the philosopher as a “result” of a proper philosophical education. At length, well-educated youths will be able to become philosophers who, in turn, will evolve into masters of others.

Opis:
As a broader realm of human endeavor and communication, education seems as fundamental as human group life itself. However, liberal education and scholarly ventures are much more problematic and fragile features of community life. Still, a liberal education is not the same as scholarship and some important distinctions are made between these two realms of activity prior to considering the ways in which they are envisioned and defended by two classical Greek authors Plato and Isocrates. Although both Plato (c420-348BCE) and Isocrates (c436-338BCE) were students of Socrates (c469-399BCE) and share an emphasis on the importance of knowing, their approaches to human knowing and acting are notably different.Clearly, Plato's depictions of the education and scholarship are considerably more extensive and are philosophically as well as theologically more engaging. Likewise, Plato has had vastly more impact on Western social thought than has Isocrates. Still, Isocrates addresses education and scholarship in distinctively more pluralist and humanly engaged terms. Following an examination of Plato's analysis of education and his defense of scholarship as these are addressed in Republic, Laws, and Charmides, attention is given to Isocrates’ defense of educational ventures. Notably, Isocrates defends education and scholarship from the positions that Plato and (his principal spokesperson) Socrates promote, and – as well, – from the ignorance and disregard of the community at large.

Opis:
The article is devoted to the determination, systematization, and study of the system of Ecclesiastical Law sources. This is a necessary and primary task for understanding the content of ecclesiastical law and its establishment in the legal system of Ukraine. The conducted analysis has given grounds to make up conclusions concerning the formal inequality and the subordination of some sources to others. The Constitution provisions contains norms and principles relating to human rights and freedoms, defining Ukraine as a secular state and determine the positive duties of the state in the field of religion. The laws if Ukraine contains the large number of ecclesiastical legal norms regulating various aspects of state-confessional relations. Bylaws specify and detail the provisions of laws. Judicial law-making in the field of ecclesiastical law is manifested through the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, which in Ukraine are considered the sources of law, through the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, which revises laws for compliance with the constitution and fundamental values, as well as the decisions of the Supreme Court, the conclusions of which are binding not only for judicial bodies but also for all subjects of authority, which implement in their activities a legal act containing the relevant legal norm.
Ustawodawstwo niższego szczebla precyzuje i uszczegóławia przepisy ustaw.
