Tanizaki’s debut - Opis:
- The following article presents the context of the literary debut of Tanizaki Jun’ichirō, one of the most famous Japanese writers of the twentieth century. His earliest literary interests, student days, and first steps in literary and theatrical worlds are discussed on the basis of the autobiographical essay “Seishun monogatari” (1932). Moreover, the article depicts Tanizaki’s first unsuccessful attempts to publish his early works, which were oriented towards aestheticism, in the days when naturalism was the dominant and most popular literary school. However, Tanizaki’s patience was rewarded and thanks to a favorable review written by great writer Nagai Kafū, Tanizaki could join the elitist and closed literary world.
