Missa 1956
Czerwiec'56 - Opis:
- Cry for freedom as an inspiration for Missa 1956, a work by Jacek Sykulski. On 28th of June 2006, on the fiftieth anniversary of Poznań events, in the square by the monument commemorating the first protests of Polish citizens against communist regime, another great event took place. Its culmination was a Holy Mass. The fact that it was accompanied by the premiere of Missa 1956, was a significant element of the celebration. Jacek Sykulski composed the mass commissioned by the mayor of Poznań. It would be hard to find a more telling example of the consonance between the religious music and patriotic spirit. Dates inscribed on the Monument emphasise the continuity of the struggle “For God, freedom, rights and daily bread”. The work of Jacek Sykulski is a part of this tradition. That is why it is worth mentioning while discussing “the role of religious music in shaping patriotic ethos.”
