With participation in social life, all the interpersonal and intergroup relations an individual establishes takes places in accordance with his/her gender roles and gender identity attributed by society. In this respect, it can be suggested that all forms of relationships individuals establish with others are shaped in parallel with his/ her gender identity. Therefore, it would not be wrong to argue that the gender identity an individual possesses in interpersonal relationships has a significant effect on the formation of the relationship established. One of the most important communication barriers confronted in the interpersonal communication process is stereotypes related to gender identity. Gender identity stereotypes emerge according to gender roles taught to each individual who joins society. The presence of these stereotypes turns into interpersonal communication barriers, which, in many cases, show their effects even before communication starts. In this regard, it is considered that addressing the content of stereotypes about the gender identity of the source and recipient as communication barriers in the communication process, is important. For this purpose, emphasis was laid primarily on the guiding effect of stereotypes in interpersonal processes within the scope of the study. Afterwards gender stereotypes were evaluated based on the findings of research conducted in this field, and with reference to characteristics of gender stereotypes.

The article is about issues related to gender perceived as a result of social context and thus fits in the current, processual gender paradigm. Two studies have been conducted verifying hypotheses about perceiving oneself on the femininity and masculinity dimensions in various types of contexts. Expectations were that generic contexts would make perceiving oneself within the psychological gender dimensions more dynamic. Women were expected to perceive themselves as more feminine and less masculine in contexts matching their gender, i.e. “feminine”, comparing to “masculine”, and men were expected to perceive themselves as more masculine and less feminine in “masculine” contexts comparing to “feminine” contexts. Research results do not confirm the above hypotheses and indicate dynamism in perceiving oneself on femininity and masculinity dimensions. However, the dynamism is perceived only on dimensions inconsistent with biological gender – situation affects women's perceiving of themselves on the masculinity dimension and men's – on femininity dimensions.

Opis:
The study investigated the gender dimensions of access to credit and profitability among dry season farmers in Ogun State, Nigeria. Lack of finance was identified as one of the major problems facing rural farming households in Nigeria. This impedes their productivity and negatively affects their overall standard of living. The study was conducted at Odogbolu Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria. A multistage stage sampling technique was employed to select 200 respondents. The first stage was the purposive selection of a local government and the second is the random selection of two communities from the local government. The results from the study indicate that 54% of the farmers (of which 38% are male farmers) have access to credit, but that only 14.81% obtained credit from formal sources. The results also showed that there is a disparity between the incomes earned by male and female farmers. While farm size was identified to have a significant effect on profitability for both male and female farmers, access to credit was not significant and could be as a result of misappropriation of funds, lack of technical expertise, market inefficiencies, as well as inconsistent government policies. This study, therefore, recommends that the interest rates given to farmers should be reduce so as to encourage investment, and that government efforts and schemes should consider the inclusion of women so that the gender gap in productivity and income can be greatly reduced.

Aim: The aim of this paper was to verify the impact of gender on correlations between native language competences and academic activity of master grade students of social sciences in Poland. Results are disscussed with other international findings. Methods: Gathering of the data was used via auditorial survey. Data was collected from 235 students (163 female, 73 male) from one of polish national universities on faculty of social sciences. Data has been analysed using T-Students test and Linear Regression models. Results: T-Students test results indicated that female students had significantly higher education outcomes and study results scores than male students. Regression analysis revealed that gender as a moderating factor of linguistic capital was a significant predictor in regard to students education outcomes and study results. The main part of linguistic capital significantly moderated by gender were language experiences, regarded toward study results scores. Conclusions: Female students have equall linguistic capital and language experiencess as male students, althoug they are more capable in using that capitale for their benefit in the context of academic education. Implication of the study and future recommendation are advised.

In a first, tentative and explorative review, the paper discusses issues of resilience performance in socially addressed illness narratives in the context of political communication and self-representation. Using the examples of U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and their Covid-19 disorders, the paper explores forms of media self-representation as resilient politicians. In a critical reading, the gender-coded displays of vulnerability and masculine resilience are related to the performance of the supposedly normal. Taking Judith Butler as a reference point, the illness narratives of strength are interpreted as a defense against and fear of weakness and threat. In the conclusion, the initial observations are related to questions of new forms of authoritarianism, so-called soft authoritarianism. The article is intended as a sketch and as a preliminary consideration for a future systematic study of vulnerability, gender, and political communication.

Aim Caste studies conducted among Muslims in India generally focus on establishing the existence of caste system among Muslims but they seldom talk about different types of oppression and inequalities faced byMuslim women. This empirical study exploreshow gender and caste identities and their mutual intersectionality impact education, occupation and income choices and actual attainments of Muslim women. Methods This study is part of a larger study conducted among Muslims of Kashmir in India.Primary datawas collected from 704 eligible respondents (Male=392, Female=312) using mixed methods. Three layers of ‘caste like’ and ‘caste’ groups existing in the research area are identified and gender situation within these groups are comparatively examined. Results Each of the ‘caste like’ and ‘caste’ groupshas patriarchal caste capital.Higher professions within the government and private services are largely acquired by upper caste male Muslims or other male and female Muslims having rich cultural and social capital. There is preponderance of lower caste male Muslims in low income self-employment but lower caste Muslim females seldom find say in family based business and compelled to join low paid private jobs. More than fifty percent educated Muslim females are unemployed. Conclusion Although patriarchy is the general rule here, not all women face discrimination and inequality in the same way. Upper caste Muslim women often witness so called benevolent restriction of choices whereas lower caste women are the most excluded and marginalised section of the society who face double discrimination due to patriarchy and interwoven caste positions which severely impacts their educational as well as employment choices and attainments.

Opis:
In this paper we show the results of an analysis of the production of individual class subjectivities in the context of strikes among both those in favour and those against. Among the several processes going on in the production of subjectivities of class, we consider strikes because we want to emphasise the active role that the subjects keep up within the class relationships of domination and exploitation. We start from a conception of the subjectivity understood as fragmentary and contingent that we apply to our analysis of class, but in this paper we limit production of individual subjectivities to context of strikes. Our analysis focuses on a case study from the beginning of the 1970s to the end of the 1990s, which was led by the workers of a company in the motor industry, situated in Catalonia. The main devices used to work on the empirical material are biographical interviews and informative interviews. We start the analysis by showing the various directions taken by that the subjectivities of workers and of the company in strike interactions, in individual terms. Then we look into the role of gender in the provisional configuration of these subjectivities in the context of a strike when these subjectivities became collective subjectivities. In this respect, we focus on the company’s workers.

This article explores the political implications, both at the time and for present-day readers, of the way La Princesse de Clèves calls into question gender norms/roles. Analyzing plots and characters in Lafayette’s text and readers/critics’ reactions in various contexts, it foregrounds the unsettling potential of a text that paradoxically moved from the position of hapax-cum- media-sensation to that of a paradigm of the early-modern novel. By focusing on its continued efficacy in disturbing heteronormative stereotypes, it sheds light on the way literature from before the modern era can contribute to identifying and analyzing queerness and gender dissidence in past historical contexts.

Opis:
Esej ten bada jak podmiotowości zawierające komponenty rasy i gender mogą wytwarzać wspólną przestrzeń społecznej współpracy, która kwestionuje kapitalistyczną hierarchizację społeczeństwa. Rozważa on zarówno kapitalistyczne pomnażanie wartości wykorzystujące różnicę, jak i wytwarzanie stawiających opór i podejmujących walkę podmiotowości, które przekraczają i wywracają na nice kapitalistyczny podział i wywłaszczenie. W tych ramach rozważam wytwarzanie dobra wspólnego przez praxis i sposób organizacji, naświetlając konieczność heterojęzycznego przekładu różnicy dla przerwania homogeniczności kapitalistycznego języka wartości. Cel niniejszego artykułu jest dwojaki. Z jednej strony, istnieje potrzeba lepszego zrozumienia teraźniejszości i targających nią sprzeczności. Z drugiej, koniecznym jest wysunięcie na pierwszy plan różnic rasowych i genderowych, by zneutralizować społeczne oddziaływanie nie-czułości na nie, i rzucić wyzwanie teraźniejszemu porządkowi społecznemu.
This essay explores how racialized and gendered subjectivities might produce a common space of social cooperation that can break down the capitalist hierarchization of society. It analyzes both the capitalistic valorization of difference and the production of resistant and militant subjectivities that exceed and overturn capitalistic segmentation and dispossession. Within this framework I consider the production of the common through praxis and mode of organization, bringing to light the necessity for heterolingual translation of difference in order to interrupt the homogeneity of the capitalist language of value. The aim of this article is twofold. On the one hand, there is the need to better understand the present time and its violent contradictions. On the other, there is the necessity to bring to the fore race and gender differences in order to neutralize the social valence of in-difference and to challenge and transform the current social order.

Despite the growing popularity of men’s self-help products, recent debates surrounding hegemonic masculinity, and attention to the “crisis of masculinity,” research has ignored men’s advice about intimate relationships. Consequently, I examine 30 contemporary relationship advice books and conceptualize their constructions of heterosexual masculinity. Findings demonstrate authors’ overall rejection of hegemonic masculinity, alongside an overarching strategy of “masculinizing” intimacy that promotes two subsidiary gender strategies – relational heroism and tempered ambition – which reframe non-hegemonic behavior as manly. The overarching strategy appears in mild forms in books emphasizing “getting laid” and stronger variants in books that promote “growing close” through intimacy. The strategy promotes a promising departure from the constraints of hegemonic masculinity by broadening men’s acceptable range of talking about and doing masculinity, but continues to emphasize gender difference and enables a reconfiguration of heterosexual masculine intimacy within hegemonic masculinity, thereby limiting its promotion of gender equality.

Opis:
This article utilizes Foucault’s theoretical perspective of modern power and constructivist perspectives of gender to examine relations of power and gender in boxing. The aim of this paper is to explore how and in what ways constructions of gender are linked to relations of power in international amateur boxing. Further, what implications the interplay between gender and power might have for female boxers. In order to identify relations of power between men and women in boxing, a series of online texts depicting the process of including women’s boxing in the Olympic Games (2009-2012) is analyzed and discussed. To investigate what implications these gendered power relations might have for female boxers today, AIBA’s recent provisional suspension of the Norwegian Boxing Federation is examined. A content analysis strategy was chosen as my analytical approach (Titscher et al. 2000), where the data material consisted of 67 online texts of which 23 were analyzed in-depth. The analysis of the material illustrates how an attempt to implement feminine outfits for female boxers in the Olympic Games was used as a gender-marking strategy in international boxing. This is further related to power by arguing that AIBA’s need to distinguish female boxers from male boxers was an attempt to make the women adhere to traditional norms of femininity (Hovden 2000; van Ingen and Kovacs 2012). Furthermore, the analysis of the material indicates that men’s boxing is valued as superior to women’s boxing and that these gendered power relations in boxing manifest themselves through their effects on women’s boxing.

Opis:
As China started its transition from centrally planned to the market economy, entrepreneurship has become one of the major forces for its economic development. However, there is still a significant research gap in the area of female entrepreneurship in China and its correlation with gender inequalities. The shift to the neo-liberalism and promotion of the self-reliance of the individual led to the reinforcement of the traditional gender norms, which affected not only female entrepreneurs, but women in general. Such a context deserves a more in-depth analysis and attention. Applying the method of the semistructured in-depth interviews, this study, conducted with female business leaders of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), focuses on the ways in which the dominant discourses of both entrepreneurial ‘ideal’ and gender roles are internalised and reinforced, shaping women’s experience and opportunities as entrepreneurs and managers of their businesses. It’s findings suggest that despite the fact that economic growth of China continues, the situation for female entrepreneurs is likely not to improve as they are still constrained by their role of primary carer and the traditional gender norms which contradict with their leadership and management positions.
