Opisano w zarysie historię miar na terenach I Rzeczypospolitej i pod zaborami: pruskim, austriackim i rosyjskim - do 1916 r.. Nim wprowadzono system metryczny, rządy państw zaborczych podejmowały różne próby unifikacji - co najmniej w skali lokalnej. Najwcześniej system metryczny przyjęto w zaborze pruskim, potem w austriackim. W zaborze rosyjskim nie udało się to do końca istnienia Cesarstwa. Po I Wojnie Światowej rozpadły się struktury państw zaborczych i zorganizowano polską administrację miar, ale do dziś nie ma Państwowego Instytutu Miar.
Outline the history of measures on the Polish Kingdom territory and then under occupation by Prussia, Austria and Russia - until 1916 is described. Before the metric system was introduced, occupying authorities took various attempts of unification - at least on a local scale. The metric system was firstly adopted in the Prussian partition, then in Austrian one. In the Russian partition it failed to end the existence of the Empire. World War I caused the collapse of structures under the occupation and the Polish administration of measures (GUM) was organized, but the National Institute of Metrology is not created up to now. - Źródło:
