Opis:: The subject of this paper is an analysis of the euro use in the functions of international currency in order to appraise the scope of its internationalisation. It turns out that the euro being the second key currency has not attained the position of a global currency so far. An assessment of the euro chances in competition with the dollar is difficult on account of growing doubts concerning the survival possibilities of monetary union. However, they depend on effective elimination of structural causes of the crisis and regaining confidence of financial markets.

Opis:: International currency is a currency that is used outside the country as unit of account, medium of exchange, and means of accumulation. International currency performs the functions of money in an international dimension. The international role of the euro refers to the use of the euro in global markets and by residents of countries outside the euro area. Non-euro area residents may use the euro, for instance, in payment transactions or financial market transactions with euro area residents or with other non-residents. In particular, the euro is used by the official sector of several non-euro area countries as a reserve currency, as an anchor currency or as an intervention. This article reviews official use refers mainly to the euro's role in third countries' monetary and exchange rate policies, in the form of an anchor or reference currency, a reserve currency or an intervention currency(original abstract)

Opis:: Dyskusja na temat różnych aspektów przyjęcia przez Polskę wspólnej waluty europejskiej toczy się od dawna. Ekonomiści przedstawiają różne i zasadniczo odmienne poglądy na ten temat. Stąd potrzeba dogłębnej analizy i wypracowania najlepszych dla Polski rozwiązań. Większość ekonomistów zgodnie przyjmuje, że przyjęcie waluty Euro w Polsce stanowić będzie kolejny szczególnie istotny impuls prorozwojowy dla polskiej gospodarki. Z drugiej strony wynagrodzenia wypłacane w Euro oraz ceny produktów i usług wyrażone w Euro mogą wygenerować wzrost cen i inflacji w początkowym okresie wprowadzania waluty Euro w Polsce. Powszechnie dominuje opinia, że Polska będzie w pełni przygotowana do przyjęcia waluty euro gdy wysokość tych dochodów w Polsce osiągnie średni poziom w Unii Europej-skiej. Poza dochodami obywateli istotna jest również w tej kwestii produktywność, innowa-cyjność, potencjał wytwórczy, kapitałowy i finansowy polskiej gospodarki.
The discussion on various aspects of Poland's adoption of the single European currency has been going on for a long time. Economists present various, fundamentally different views on the subject. Hence the need for in-depth analysis and development of the best solutions for Poland. Most economists agree that adopting the Euro currency in Poland will be another particularly important development stimulus for the Polish economy. On the other hand, wages paid in Euro and prices of products and services expressed in Euro may generate a rise in prices and inflation in the initial period of introducing the Euro currency in Poland. There is a widespread opinion that Poland will be fully prepared to adopt the euro currency when the level of these incomes in Poland reaches the average level in the European Union. In addition to the incomes of citizens, the productivity, innovation, productive, capital and financial poten-tial of the Polish economy are also important in this respect.
