- The use of the numerical maps and GPS technology in national parks has been started already at the end of the 20th century, since 1995. The questionnaire was sent to 46 national parks in Europe (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Germany). In Poland, the obtained responses accounted for 83% of the sent questionnaires. 21% of parks still lack numerical maps and 26% of them have no GPS receivers. In 64% the actually used equipment does not meet the parks' needs. Most measurements are made using the standard method, but not exclusively. Usually the GPS technology is used to locate the habitats of protected vascular plants, locate the nests of the birds of prey, locate the experimental plots, locate equipment and areas covered by environmental monitoring.
