This study investigated the relationships between emotional intelligence (EI) and conflict resolution strategies in romantic heterosexual couples. 164 couples solved the Test of Emotional Intelligence (TIE), a Polish measure based on the ability model of EI, and the Problem-Solving Strategies Inventory (PSSI) in two versions: self-report and a report of partner’s behavior. We assumed that individuals high in EI should have superior confl ict resolution skills and engage in active and constructive strategies, avoiding those characterized as passive and destructive. These hypotheses were supported for women, but not for men. Females’ EI was consistently positively related to self-report measures of Voice, and negatively related to self-reports of Neglect. Emotionally intelligent men did not declare use of more constructive or positive confl ict resolution styles; however, their female partners judged them as more prone to use of those strategies. The results also revealed a positive assortative mating effect with regard to EI. Additionally, the study demonstrated an interesting disparity between male and female’s reports on relationship behaviors.

Aim. The aim of this research is comparing the role of personality traits and emotional intelligence between women who experienced domestic violence and  a control group. Methods. The statistical population of the study includes all women (700 participants) referred to the judicial authorities of Ardabil province in 2019.The research sample included 30 women who experienced domestic violence and 30 women as control group (not experienced domestic violence) who were selected by available sampling method. To measure emotional intelligence and personality traits, the Bar-on Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire and NEO Questionnaire was used. The questionnaires briefly describe and evaluate the two complex concepts of emotional intelligence and current emotional health. Data analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software and MANOVA. The main variables of the research were neuroticism, extroversion, openness, agreeableness, extra-individual skills, conscientiousness, interpersonal skills, adaptability, stress control and public mood. Results. The findings of the research have shown that among the characteristics of the five major personality factors (NEO), only the neuroticism component was more prevalent among women who experienced domestic violence, and the rest of the personality traits (extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to new experiences) among control group were higher (P<0.05). Also, all components of emotional intelligence (extra-individual skills, intrapersonal skills, adaptability, stress control, and public mood) were higher among control group than those of women who experienced domestic violence (P<0.05).   Conlusion. As a result, it can be acknowledged that personality traits and emotional intelligence abilities are among the main factors related to domestic violence and are very important in preventing this violence.

This study investigates the relationship between EI and the state of mental health of unemployed persons. Gender differences were also identified in terms of mental health and its correlation with EI. A sample of 160 Polish unemployed persons aged 35 to 45 years filled in self-descriptive measures of EI and mental health. Significant gender differences were found – unemployed women were characterised by a greater intensity of mental health disorders than unemployed men. EI was negatively correlated with mental health disorders, but the correlations were few and weaker than expected. However, when unemployed persons with a low, average and high EI were compared, it turned out that participants with a low EI were characterised by a significantly worse condition of mental health than participants with a average or high EI.

This research was conducted with the aim of testing a model of relations between emotional intelligence and job performance of the staff with the intermediacy of conflicts management. The methodology was one of descriptive-structural equations. The sample under research included 155 people of the Ilam Gas Refinement Corporation who were selected by using classified sampling method from among 253 official personnel. The tool for collecting data was a questionnaire. To analyze data, descriptive statistics and structural equations methods were applied. The findings resulting from the fitness of the structural model indicated that there was a positive and significant effect among the variables in the research. Also, the intermediary role of the conflict management in the research's conceptual model in respect to the relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance of the staff (non-verbal communications) was confirmed.

Contemporary psychology in the description of the self is beginning to take into consideration – apart from the self described as a static, un- changing structure – the point of view of phenomenology, the perspective of the subjects through self-description, their narration in the context of functioning in social relations and inner experience. Revealing of self in self-description is determined to a large extent by the surrounding reality. It can be especially significant in young people in the period of adolescence. Their self-esteem is a personality trait for which social relations are re- sponsible to a great extent. Adolescents build their self-esteem on the basis of personal experiences and emotional relationships with their families or friends (the community surrounding them). The appropriate functioning of young people can be ensured by high self-esteem formed by satisfying psychological needs such as acceptance, security, autonomy, belonging as well as the appropriate level of emotional intelligence. Self-esteem formed on negative family and social role models can, on the other hand, lead to the formation of negative identity, and thereby inappropriate peer relationships. The presented research refers to girls who are staying at the Youth Detention Centre and Young Offenders’ Institution in Warsaw Falenica according to the ruling of Family Division and Juvenile Court. The presented research is a pilot study. It charts a new scope of research. It can also be used in the work of tutors, social therapists and social workers taking care of juveniles both during and after their stay at the Young Offenders’ Institution.
