    Opis:
    Through historical analysis and interpretation of memories of Czech/Czechoslovak firefighters who have been professionally active since 1960s until 1990s (and/or beyond), his paper aims to analyze the ways in which his socio-professional group has been behaving during the last 40–50 years. Given that only very little historical research has been done on members of this group, the paper represents a first pioneer attempt. The research is a continuation of previous research projects conducted by Czech oral historians focused on working class members and on changes of their opinions, attitudes and behavior before and after 1989. The author’s ambition is to contribute to the current knowledge of the nature and specifics of the mentioned „normalization” regime (1969–1989) as well as the „transformation-to-democracy” era (1990s) in Czechoslovakia. In the present paper the author outlines the current state of research (20 conducted interviews with 10 firefighters as to the end of 2012), comments on some methodological problems associated with oral-historical research of this group and offers her interpretations of selected topics.

    The article tries to resume the main contours and changes in the travelling and tourism „sphere“ in the consequences of Velvet Revolution and the fall of communism in Czechoslovakia. There are presented the most important historical frames of „sphere“ development, but also there are illuminated the key perspectives and meanings deriving from realised oral history interviews. For conclusion the author tries to resume and „re-think“ the issue of „historical meaning“ and the importance of 1989 change in the context of Czech contemporary history.
    Artykuł jest próbą refleksji nad formą i przemianami w sferze ruchu turystycznego w związku z Aksamitną Rewolucją 1989 r. i z upadkiem komunizmu w Czechosłowacji. W tekście prezentowany jest historyczny rozwój tej sfery. W dalszej części przedstawiono zagadnienie z perspektywy narratorów wywiadów oral history i znaczenia, jakie przykładają do tej problematyki. W podsumowaniu autor zastanawia się, jakie znaczenie miał przełom roku 1989 dla rozwoju ruchu turystycznego w kontekście czeskiej historii współczesnej.

    This study focuses on the reflection of the relationship between the army and ideology in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. The main attention is paid to the issue of membership of Czechoslovak People's Army officers in the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia before 1968. Through the analysis of oral-historical interviews, the author follows the narrative and legitimizing strategies of rejecting or accepting party membership, which was one of the conditions of career growth in the military during the period under review. An important factor in (re) constructing narrators’ memories in this case is the current media image of the communist regime in Czech society.

    Studies Czech Opposition Structures at the Local Level in 1989 through the Eyes of Oral History is devoted to the description and analysis of anti-regime activities of czech society at the level of towns and regions. The main source of knowledge are mainly interviews with the participants, led by the method of oral history. The aim of the study is primarily to show the variety of activities that took place at the local level, despite the repressive power of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia.

    The author presents the outcomes of oral history  research relating to the history of the Czechoslovak Maritime Shipping Company from 1959–1989 in the form of a case study. The interpretation of the accounts of seventeen former Czechoslovakian sailors focuses on two aspects: their professional and family lives. The author recognises that these two aspects of the sailors’ lives were very often in conflict with each other, concluding that their work was often much more significant than their family life; that although they realised the problems that their families faced, they were unable to help by giving the work up to be with their families.  The text is supplemented with a methodological reflection that focuses on the issue of a researcher’s emotional engagement to the research subject. Finally, the author presents thoughts on parallel and potential comparative studies between the lives of the Czechoslovakian sailors (from a country without direct sea access) and Poland (a country with a very rich maritime tradition).

    This article focuses on how the members of the alternative Czech rock music scene experienced the 1990s. It is based on oral history interviews with rock musicians as well as with music club managers, concert promoters, a music manager, and a publicist. The aim of the article is to out line the possible narratives of these actors about the era of the 1990s and map whether these narratives remain the same for the entire decade.
    Artykuł skupia się na tym, jak lata 90. przeżywali członkowie alternatywnej czeskiej sceny rockowej. Opiera się na wywiadach ustnych z muzykami rockowymi, a także z menadżerami klubów muzycznych, promotorami koncertów, menadżerem muzycznym i publicystą. Celem artykułu jest zarysowanie możliwych narracji tych aktorów o epoce lat 90. oraz odnotowanie, czy narracje te pozostają niezmienne przez całą dekadę.

    Opis:
    The aim of the following article is to analyse the consequences of the Prague Spring on the Czechoslovak People’s Army on the strength of biographical accounts by direct participants of the events, and to compare them with surviving documents from that period. The research project has been carried out using the oral history method and refers to accounts of soldiers laid off from the army as a result of the so-called normalisation purges that took place from the late 1960s until the mid-1970s. The article presents the chronology of the normalisation methods used in the army and the way they were applied both at official and party level. It also discusses the consequences of these actions on the ordinary lives of the witnesses and thus how reflections of those events were later portrayed for the purpose of the study.
