The author analyses the factors enabling them to cultivate Polish culture, traditions, customs, folklore and language properly in Polish community, which represents ethnic minority in Czech Republic.

    The article analyses the issue of election activity of the Polish inhabitants of the Zaolzie region (the Czech Republic) in the 1990-2018 period referring to national elections (Lower Chamber of Parliament, Senate, President of the Czech Republic) as well as local and regional elections. The theoretical section offers analyses of national and ethnic minorities as (collective) political actors. The empirical part provides an in-depth analysis of the votes in particular elections, taking into consideration the communes with a significant rate of Polish inhabitants as well as those communes there the Polish ethnos was rather scarce. The ethnic affiliation has been considered as a vital independent variable of the choices made, however, other variables explaining election behaviour have also been indicated.

    Aim: This ethnographic study is aimed at outlining the functioning of education with the Polish language as the language of instruction in the Czech Republic. Methods: The research for the text was conducted in the post-positivist paradigm, with the application of the strategy of ethnographic studies. In this regard, the method of searching secondary sources as well as observation and interviews were used. Results: As a result of the conducted analyses, a review of education with the Polish language as the language of instruction was created, pertaining to two counties of the Czech-Polish borderland – Karviná and Frýdek-Místek. Conclusions: Despite an increase in the number of students attending schools with the Polish language as the language of instruction in 2010–2022, simultaneously with the not increasing number of educational institutions (kindergartens and schools), the reasons for the decrease in their total number in previous decades should be sought in: the structural transformations in the Czechoslovak school system, as a result of which lower-organized schools were closed; the liquidation of Polish settlements as a result of mining damages; the lack of vocational schools with the Polish language as the language of instruction; the decreasing social usefulness of the Polish language in the environment; and the increasing number of mixed marriages. On the other hand, the Polish national minority in the Czech Republic has a well-developed organizational background and numerous organizations, social and cultural institutions operate there. Their activities not only serve the minority, but above all support education with the Polish language as the language of instruction.

    Opis:
    The article comprises a presentation of quantitative and qualitative studies, conducted among teachers working in kindergartens and schools with Polish as the teaching language in the territory of Zaolzie in the Czech Republic. Teachers’ experiences are analysed from the perspective of both the constructivist vision of a child, present in pedagogy, and Maria Tyszkowa’s concept of structuration and restructuration of experience (considered to be a part of the constructivist current). The undertaken reflections and the research results enable the recognition of the significance of childhood experiences for the professional development of beginners in teaching careers. Those reflections and outcomes can also enhance the development of teachers’ awareness and responsibility for providing children and youth with experiences that will be of crucial importance in their later life young.
    Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań ilościowych i jakościowych przeprowadzonych wśród nauczycieli pracujących w przedszkolach i szkołach z polskim językiem nauczania zlokalizowanych na terenie tzw. Zaolzia – w Republice Czeskiej. Doświadczenia nauczycieli poddaje analizie z perspektywy konstruktywistycznej wizji dziecka obecnej w pedagogice oraz koncepcji strukturacji i restrukturacji doświadczenia Marii Tyszkowej (zaliczanej do nurtu konstruktywistycznego). Podjęte rozważania i wyniki przeprowadzonych badań pozwalają poznać znaczenie doświadczeń z dzieciństwa dla rozwoju zawodowego początkujących nauczycieli. Mogą przyczynić się do rozwoju świadomości i odpowiedzialności nauczycieli za dostarczanie doświadczeń dzieciom i młodzieży. Doświadczenia te będą miały istotne znaczenie w późniejszym życiu dzieci i młodzieży.
