    Opis:
    The People’s Republic of China is one of the states focusing intensively on building its soft power and shaping its international image. However, China’s image is still negative and primarily based on stereotypes. In recent years, this country is willing to change such perceptions and present itself as an efficient, intensively developing, capable country that is much more than just a global production plant. The article aims to review China’s different manifestations of development aid regarding changing this type of public diplomacy and its meaning to the Chinese government. Is it only motivated by good intentions, or maybe its goal is to only provide an advantage to China? It is evident that owing to significant development, China needs to expand its economic contacts. However, the tested hypothesis states that behind Chinese development aid, political motivation is hidden as well. The research is based on content analysis of official documents and Foreign Ministry’s statements referring to development aid.

    Opis:
    China is a country that employs a number of tools in order to shape its positive international perception. Sport plays an important role in this area. The aim of the research is to investigate the issue of sports exchanges and their role in shaping international image of China. The analysis is an empirical case study and is aimed at answering a research question concerning how sports exchanges may be used in order to shape a desired international image of a country. According to the main hypothesis to be tested in the article, through sports exchanges China managed to make a swift from the old, unidirectional sports diplomacy, to a more dialogue-oriented, reciprocal form.
    Chiny należą do krajów, które wykorzystują szereg narzędzi kształtowania pozytywnego wizerunku międzynarodowego. Sport odgrywa w ich ramach istotną rolę. Celem badania jest analiza kwestii wymian sportowych i ich roli w kształtowaniu międzynarodowego wizerunku Chin. Badanie stanowi empiryczne studium przypadku i jego celem jest odpowiedź na pytanie badawcze dotyczące tego, w jaki sposób wymiany sportowe mogą być wykorzystane do kształtowania pożądanego wizerunku państwa. Zgodnie z główną hipotezą, która poddana została weryfikacji, przez wymiany sportowe Chiny były w stanie przejść od tradycyjnych form jednokierunkowej dyplomacji sportowej do bardziej ukierunkowanej na dialog i wzajemność.

    Artykuł przedstawia analizę zmagań chińskich władz o utrzymanie pozytywnego wizerunku Państwa Środka w obliczu pandemii COVID-19 w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Na podstawie wydarzeń z pierwszego półrocza 2020 roku zauważalny stał się konfrontacyjny ton w komunikacji dyplomatyczno-medialnej, który obrały chińskie władze w stosunku do USA, co wynikało z nowej strategii przewodniczącego Xi Jinpinga. Realizacja chińskiego planu zakładała przede wszystkim odwrócenie sytuacji poprzez oskarżenie armii USA o wywołanie globalnej pandemii, wzmożoną aktywność na polu zachodnich mediów społecznościowych przy zaangażowaniu chińskich dyplomatów, a następnie huczne promowanie chińskiej pomocy w walce z pandemią. Z drugiej strony można zaobserwować, postępującą wraz z rozwojem pandemii, radykalizację nastrojów wśród Amerykanów i zaostrzającą się retorykę w debacie publicznej. Przebiegała ona od atmosfery podejrzliwości poprzez powolne odkrywanie nowych faktów, formułowanie podejrzeń, aż po surowe oceny i oskarżenia, których konsekwencje dla relacji amerykańsko-chińskich pozostają jeszcze nieznane.
    The article presents an analysis of Chinese struggles to maintain a positive image of the Middle Kingdom in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Based on the events of the first half of 2020, the confrontational tone in diplomatic and media communications that the Chinese authorities have taken towards the US has become noticeable, which resulted from the new strategy of President Xi Jinping. The implementation of the Chinese plan was primarily to reverse the situation by accusing the US army of triggering a global pandemic, increased activity in the field of Western social media with the involvement of Chinese diplomats, and then demonstrative promotion of Chinese assistance in fighting the pandemic. On the other hand, one may observe a pandemic that is progressing with the development of the mood, radicalization among Americans along with the development of the pandemic and the sharpening of rhetoric in the public debate. It went from an atmosphere of suspicion, slowly discovering new facts, formulating suspicions, to severe assessments and accusations, the consequences of which for American-Chinese relations remain unknown.

    Opis:
    The first university programme in Polish studies in China was launched already in the 1950s. The foundations laid by a few generations of specialists in Polish studies from Beijing Foreign Studies University permit the development of successive programmes in Polish studies in other Chinese academic centres. They use the support of the PRC government, which has been implementing a dynamic foreign policy addressed to the Central and Eastern European countries for a few years now. One of the new centres offering innovative programmes in Polish studies, which are combined with the economic and international path, is the Sichuan University in Chengdu, supported by the University of Warsaw. This paper describes the formation of the Polish+ programme in Chengdu and presents the details related to the curriculum of the studies, which inspires other Chinese higher education institutions to introduce similar specialties in cooperation with the greatest Polish higher education institutions.

    One of the most important initiatives serving the purpose of popularising the Polish language worldwide is the Meetings of Polish Studies in Three Countries: China, Korea, Japan (SPTK). The actions taken by specialists in Polish studies coming from East Asian countries position the teaching of Polish as a foreign language in a new sociopolitical context. Polish studies function at prestigious higher education institutions of the region, the signifi cance of which increases as a result of the changes occurring in the contemporary international relations. Polish glottodidactics becomes one of the “tools” in the public diplomacy efforts made by the Polish government at various levels using various means. The cooperation and integration of Asian specialists in Polish studies raises the global prestige of the Polish language and develops polonophony.
