Opis:
The article is an attempt to answer the question what role in political communication of the Catholic Church in Poland play the most important Polish Catholic opinion weekly magazines (Gość Niedzielny, Niedziela, Tygodnik Powszechny). Span of the analysis covers last 15 years. The research included the presidential campaign period in 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015. The analysis was conducted with regard to the articles published during the period of one month prior to the presidential elections. The author assesses to what extent the analyzed press titles were convergent with the official announcements of the Polish Bishops' Conference regarding the political involvement of the Catholic Church. It is important to find an answer to the question of how the Catholic press supported one of the candidates for the office of President of the Republic. Another important question that needs clarification is whether and to what extent journalists discussed electoral programs of individual candidates. According to the author, the results of research regarding political engagement of Catholic press in the four presidential campaigns are a representative sample to determine the role of the analysed Catholic press in political communication of the Catholic Church in Poland.

Christian missions in Cameroon were quite closely related to European colonization. It came with noble slogans of bringing civilization and freedom. But it had primarily economic and political goals. Although missionary activity was born from other motives, it was nolens volens entangled in the politics of the colonial states. The Cameroonian coast nominally belonged for centuries to Portugal. At the end of the 18th century the missionary activity in Africa had almost completely disappeared. The beginnings of the mission in Cameroon were entangled in the intricate politics of England, Germany, and France in particular. Without this political dimension it is impossible to fully understand the contemporaneity of the various Christian denominations in Cameroon.

The article’s main objective is to present the relationship between the Antanas Smetona regime and the Catholic opposition in 1929–32, and an evaluation of the repressive measures applied during this period. An analysis of various sources revealed that the actions of the right-wing nationalist government toward the Catholic opposition – which included the clergy, Catholic social organisations, and the Christian Democrats – were extremely harsh, significantly since the Catholic movement did not threaten the state sovereignty, public order, or political doctrine carried out by the Lithuanian president. The 1929–32 timeframe refers to the period of the greatest tension in the conflict between the Lithuanian government and the Catholic Church. The conflict between the Republic of Lithuania and the Vatican divided society, thus disrupting the existing positive diplomatic relations, which were reflected in the signing of the concordat in 1927.

Opis:
Unemployment and emigration were the most important and urgent concerns which beset Poland shortly after its rebirth in 1918. The Catholic Church took action in both of these fields, inspired by the teachings of Popes Leo XIII and Pius XI concerning the so-called “social issue.” These inspirations were aptly interpreted and practically implemented by Antoni Julian Nowowiejski, bishop of Płock, known today as a social activist and reformer. This text analyses the specific activities of the Płock clergy in the interwar period, which were supposed to counteract the negative social consequences of the issues mentioned above.

Opis:
Healing ministries, typical of Christian charismatics in many different denominations, gained popularity over the past 50 years with the expansion of Neo-Pentecostalism in Protestant communities as well as the Charismatic Renewal among the Catholic Church. According to Christian as well as Hindu preachers, healing of the body, mind, and soul seems to be indispensable for one’s spiritual growth. In order for the follower to be healed, a supernatural force needs to be employed. Christians associate this particular entity with the Holy Spirit, whereas the followers of Hinduism – with Kundalini Shakti. What appears to be interesting is the fact that although these two religions differ to a great extent, the symptoms of the spiritual awakening are similar. The aim of this study is to analyze the actions ascribed to the Holy Spirit during the so- called healing ministries and compare them with the manifestations of Kundalini Shakti that can be observed during the Hindu ceremony known as Shaktipat.

Then they proposed typology of forms of influence of the Church on the political system. Then presented reported in the parliament draft legislation on partnerships and analyzed the arguments and forms of influence of the Church in the process of regulation of the above regulations. The Central Archive of the Light-Life Movement is the central unit of the Light-Life Movement. Organizationally, it is one of the two branches of Rev. Franciszek Blachnicki Institute. Like any historical archive, its aim is to gather, organise, protect, store and provide access to archival materials. The records stored in the fonds of the archive in question are primarily linked with Rev. Blachnicki, who established the Oasis Movement and initiated many other pastoral and social actions. A number of initiatives started by Blachnicki, along with the Light-Life Movement contributed to the production of materials which are now stored in the Central Archive of the Light-Life Movement. The article presents not only the stages of the creation of the above mentioned fonds but also its current legal status and contemporary tasks and functions. The paper shows the general outline of the fonds of the Archive which comprises numerous records divided into separate units. The Archive also contains a collection of leaflets-still unprocessed, posters and boards, as well as a collection of various serial, compact and brochure publications. The total fonds consists of approximately 120 linear meters of the records. The documentation in the form of mechanical sound recordings constitutes a significant part of the archival fonds (about five thousand hours), photographs (mostly positives of various formats - about 11 thousand photographs), slides (about 1000 frames) and films. The article also focuses on the archival equipment, housing conditions, the rules of providing access to the materials and the most important tools used for storing records. In addition, the authors mentioned issues related to the forms of popularization of the archival materials stored in the fonds of the Archive in question.

Opis:
The article investigates the persecution of the Catholic Church in the times of Stalinism, when the political power in Poland was largely centralized in the hands of the Communists of Jewish origin, who were sent by Joseph Stalin from Moscow in order to sovietize Poland. The Catholic Church, which had been defending the sovereignty of Poland for centuries, was treated by Com-munists as a greatest enemy of their objectives. The article shows the ruthlessness of the Com-munist regime, whose goal was to weaken the role of the Roman Catholic Church, and to liqui-date its leading institutions, such as the Catholic University of Lublin. It concisely presents main assumptions of the “anticlerical action” which was authorized by Hilary Minc and Jakub Ber-man. The paper contains legal reviews which indicate the illegal behavior of security officers in relation to Catholics, in particular to those of juvenile age. It argues that, with fighting against the Catholicism in Poland, the Communists infringed the law established by themselves. The article is a result of the many months inquiry in several archive institutes in Poland.

The Catholic Church is a strong player in Africa, especially due to its social, medical, educational care and charity giving to African people. Diplomacy of the Holy See is also very concerned with African problems at an international forum. First of all the cause of this involvement is the increasing community of the Catholic faithful in Africa. The paper deals with a few aspects of Catholic commitment for the better future of this marginalized continent and tries to answer the question if the Catholic Church/the Holy See is the real power in Africa. However, there is not explicit answer because of special nature of this entity.

One of the basic calls of the modern church is to call secular people to engage in the process of evangelization and building the new humanism. In 1947 Pius XII announced the apostolic constitution Provida mater Ecclesia giving in this way theological and legal form to such experience as secular institutions. In modern days the call is clearer, because it directs the invitation to all of us, to participate in building church unity recognizing only one’s vocation in the world. The biggest concern of the church is not an answer to moral responsibilities (what one should do or not), not about natural laws or sociological analyses, political or anthropological, or ethical and ideological confusion, which are the domain of the modern world, but the axis of the church is the concern, for the power coming from Christ’s cross being wasted. Catholic Social Science does not ignore philosophy, law, and science as such, but the basis of its science is Christ. The essence of realization of the Catholic Social Science program is to get acquainted with the science, upbringing in its spirit, and using it throughout activities in various social environments. Man today should realize how useful engagement and responsibility for the natural environment are. The modern church participates in the concern about the environment. In John Paul II's teachings, we could find a call to action in favor of it. Benedict XVI as one of the most important tasks of our times acknowledged the idea of balanced development.

In the stream of recent years one can notice that divorces granted by the civil court in Poland constantly grow in number. The author observes that each di-vorce suit results from the tragedy of a matrimonial life, though not always from the fault of a spouse. He dedicates his considerations (1) to show how the Catholic Church defends the indissolubility of marriage, (2) to discuss the prob-lem of these divorced Catholics whose sacramental marriage has not been de-clared invalid by the Church court, (3) to analyze the legal and pastoral situation of these spouses who left their sacramental marriages for living in non-sacramental ones.

Bishop Edward Samsel’s relations with the Church of the East were a major part of his pastoral ministry. As a patriot, he felt the obligation to help the Poles which remained within the borders of the Soviet Union, and suffered the torment of the local life. If possible, he tried to involve himself in the rebirth of religion in Belarus. Most contacts Bp E. Samsel had with the Grodno Diocese which was founded in 1991. The author analyzes the pastoral and material assistance, which was provided by Bp Samsel to resurgent church communities in Belarus, as well as his care for priests and seminarists.

The inspiration to pursue a research topic or to contribute to the research of other scientists often comes from a single remark, thought or sentence. ‘Continuations’ in the heading suggests that this, too, is the case of this paper. It presents early results of a research project undertaken in 2017 to examine the religiousness of high school and academic youth inhabiting different social environments and coming from different regions of Poland (the Silesian, St Cross and Lesser Poland voivodeships). Research of this kind is undertaken relatively often, and usually focuses on similar topics; was it thus necessary to add yet another new project? The inspiration behind it comes from the findings of Fr. Janusz Mariański, an expert on the religiousness of Poles, which he described in numerous publications and in particular in the latest one: Religious activity of Poles in regression, a paper which forms part of the Anniversary Publication of Prof. Andrzej Wójtowicz. In the paper, J. Mariański summarises the results of multiannual sociological research of the topic. His central thesis points to a slow but consistent diminishing – regression – of Poles’ religious activity in the past decade. Whilst it is still possible to talk about a specific uniqueness of Polish religiosity, it does not mean that it will remain so unique in the future.

Unquestionably, the nationalization of Caritas in 1950 was outlawed and its main purpose was to attack the only independent power in the State – the Catholic Church, headed by Primate Stefan Wyszyński as head of the state. Numerous attempts were made in order to limit the influence of the Church on children and the education of the young. Yet, these attempts were failed by the Communists. Almost every caring institution within the Caritas activities was supported by a monastic congregation. In spite of political compulsion of propaganda character, these institutions were still helping people who needed it.

Opis:
The article deals with the subject of searching the nature of the consecrated virginity in the Church. This analysis is based on the theological and liturgical aspects defined by Ordo Consecrationis Virginum and Ordo Professionis Religiosae. Therefore we take the assumption that the most appropriate criterion of its interpretation in the Christian reality can be found in the principle: lex orandi – lex credendi. From this perspective the consecrated virginity is perceived as positive reality as far as faith celebration is concerned. The liturgy describes virginity as a gift offered to man by God’s people. Faith is also a prize and through the liturgy it is able reach its highest point. Virginity glorified in the Christian reality becomes a present as well as it is not only connected with but also filled with faith. Virginity consecrated under liturgical circumstances gains both ontological and dynamic features typical of worship. This sequentially allows to understand that virginity is not simply the result of ascetic effort, nor it is the physical adornment of a believer. In fact it spreads on the whole person who is being revived by sacraments. It makes them improve by personal commitment marking their route through the history of salvation.
