Opis:
Artykuł prezentuje możliwość wykorzystania modeli terenu pochodzących z danych LiDAR do odtworzenia elementów historycznych fortyfikacji polowych. Podczas badań odtworzono przebieg linii okopów pochodzących z II wojny światowej na obszarze Pasma Jałowieckiego i Grupy Mędralowej. W celu weryfikacji dokładności danych pozyskanych z LiDAR i identyfikacji form punktowych oprócz interpretacji modelu przeprowadzono kartowanie terenowe z użyciem GPS. Zaprezentowana w artykule metoda badań pozwala na zidentyfikowanie linii okopów rozmieszczonych na rozległym, często trudno dostępnym obszarze, przez co wskazana jest do stosowania podczas prowadzonych badań na obszarze Karpat.
LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data are very useful in geographical, historical and archeological studies. It is because of large ALS point cloud precision, which makes possibility of studying small forms in relief, such as unmetalled roads, historical agricultural systems, archaeological sites or old field fortifications, like trench lines. The aim of this article is test on the usability of LiDAR data in research of trench lines built during Second World War in Poland, in Beskidy Mountains. The study area chosen to this text was located in Jałowiec Range and Mędralowa Mountain Group in south-west of Małopolskie voivodeship, south of Poland (Fig. 1). Jałowiec Range and Mędralowa Mountain Group is a continuation to the north of the Massif Babia Góra (Beskid Żywiecki, Carpathians). The fortifications were been built in this area before and during the Second World War. The first objects were built by Polish Army in 1939 and second time there was built two large fortification lines 1944, by polish people forced to do it by german soldiers. The most objects in studied area were made on the slopes of Malikowski Groń. Objects founded in 1944 were preserved in good condition up to the present day (Tab. 1). The few objects have been transformed by the geomorphological processes and by overgrown trees and shrubs on them. These objects have survived to this day, because they were not damaged during hostilities. The research was performed on a piece of trench line on Malikowski Groń (760 ma.s.l.) about 12,2 km long (Fig. 3, Fig. 6), Lachów Groń (708 m a.s.l.) about 1,6 km long (Fig. 3) and Mędralowa Mountain Group (1169 m a.s.l) about 2,3 km long (Fig. 4). During the field test the plan of trench lines (Fig. 3C, 5B) was performed by using GPS mapping and by measurement of the size and depth of the trenches. Second plan (Fig. 3B, 5A) is the result of LiDAR data analyses and vectorization. After then the obtained results were compared in research analysis. The trench lines and objects are quite good visible in LiDAR data, but it is impossible to do the classification of point objects made in field observation (Tab. 1, 2, 3). However, as a general comment, it is the possibility to signing the object classes in neighbor areas by way of analogy to field testing research.

Opis:
Southeastern Poland is one of the oldest petroleum provinces in the world. Although hydrocarbon production has been conducted in this region since the middle of 19th century, there is still a good potential for more discoveries. 9 billion cubic meters of high methane gas reserves reported in the years 2000-2006, when combined with the previously discovered gas fields, essentially satisfy gas demand for this area. Currently, Miocene deposit of the Carpathian Foredeep is the most prolific exploration target area with more than 100 discoveries of high methane gas. The total reserves of these fields are 138 billion cubic meters, and the cumulative production is more than 90 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Large gas fields in terms of area and reserves that have already been discovered are followed by present discoveries of fields with relatively smaller area, their reserves are up to 2 billion cubic meters. Current exploration efforts are focused on good understanding of the sub-miocene basement configuration as well as detecting of seismic anomalies directly related to natural gas accumulations. Another very important element of exploration strategy for Southern Poland is the Mesozoic and Paleozoic deposits of the Carpathian Foredeep. The most prospective for discovering of sizeable hydrocarbon fields are Cretaceous (Cenomanian) sandstones and Upper Jurassic carbonates, locally also Middle Jurassic sandstone as well as Lower Carboniferous and Devonian carbonates. So far 13 gas fields and 10 oil fields have been discovered in the Mesozoic and Paleozoic of the Carpathian Foredeep and the sub-Carpathian basement with booked reserves of 7.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 4.7 million tons of oil. The cumulative production amounts to 6.1 billion cubic meters of gas and 4.3 million tons of oil. Different exploration problems have been encountered in the Carpathians. Most of the fields which have been discovered in the Flysch Carpathians occur in shallow, steep, narrow, commonly thrusted and faulted folds. Oil and gas fields discovered so far in the Carpathians have small reserves. Additionally, discovered and booked reserves of existing oil and gas fields are depleted to a large extent. 17 gas fields and 67 oil fields have been discovered in the Carpathians. Booked reserves amount to 16.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 12.3 million tons of oil. Cumulative production has been 15.2 billion cubic meters of gas and 11.9 million tons of oil. To sum up, it should be emphasized that the bulk of gas reserves discovered, booked and developed recently in Southern Poland comes from the autochthonous Miocene deposits. This trend, which involves high methane gas, is expected to continue for the next few years. Potential oil discoveries can be attributed mainly to the flysch Carpathians and Paleozoic, but requires more research and further exploration on a larger scale.

Opis:
The purpose of this article is to present the preliminary results of the research on the shepherds' everyday life that I have been conducting since 2015 in the field of history, migration, and cultural heritage of the Vlach minority inhabiting the areas from Albania to the northern Carpathians. One of the research stages entails the studies of the daily life and rituals of the highlanders living in the huts on the Polish side of the Carpathians. The article describes the issues concerning the organization and the time-space symbolism of a modern hut, including their daily life and schedule of activities. The research was conducted in the selected huts of Spiš, Orava, Podhale, Żywiec region, and Silesian Beskids in Poland in 2015-2018. In all cases, I applied qualitative research, mostly structured and unstructured interviews with senior and young shepherds working in the huts, as well as covert and overt participant observations conducted during selected pastoral holidays and meetings in various spaces—in temples, during highlander's and Vlach conventions, in theme meetings, and in the huts. I supplement these techniques with the analysis of the visual sources that I made during the field research, received from the enthusiasts of this topic, or found on the Internet. The research has shown that modern pastoralism oscillates between two poles: the traditional, which has made it possible to retain many elements from the past (cultural heritage), and the modern, thanks to which shepherds introduce global solutions to their huts and traditions.

Opis:
The most beautiful Polish mofette occurs in the Sądecki (Sącz) Beskid, within the Krynica tectonic-facial zone of the Magura Unit (Inner Carpathians). It is located in the Złocki Stream upstream of the Złockie village in the Muszyna commune. The occurrence has numerous exhalations of CO2 in the valley floor and on the sides of this boggy stream as well as in the „Zatopione” and „Bulgotka” springs. It is also the site of the dry exhalation „Dychawka”. The floor of the valley is covered with gelatinous rusty-brown deposits of iron oxyhydroxides that precipitate either due to chemical or organic processes (the latter initiated by numerous microorganisms, mainly ferruginous bacteria). The site is legally protected as the Professor Henryk Świdziński monument of inanimate nature. In September 2005 it was made accessible for tourists and currently is an important geological attraction in the Popradzki Landscape Park.
